Solos and Ensembles are coming up in March. My band director was supossed to have given me my solo before christmas break. Didn't happen. Then he said he was going to give it to me after spring break. Didn't happen. So I guess I'm going to have to go to Hoover music and find my own solo. I want to have longer than a few weeks to prepare it.

If you already paid your dues to play, then go ahead and head to the music store to find it yourself. Just ask to see the list of approved repertoire from your director to make sure that you can get a medal after being judged. If that is not readily available, check the website for your State Band/Orchestra Association to see if they have a list available.

At least, that's how it works in Virginia.

Just keep in mind that the music YOU purchase is going to be yours forever (until you decide to pawn it off to someone next year who wants to perform the same thing).

I know only a couple weeks isn't much time to practice, but if you are worried about your score, then get something that's a grade lower than what you usually play so it will not take as much effort to master before you go in front of the judges.

You don't have to play really hard songs. Really, you just have to play what you pick out well. The judges in my area didn't mind our level of piece as much as they cared about our overall performance. Of course, don't play anything ridiculously easy, though.

Well, i know a clarinet Trio.

Its called "the ash Grove." I performed it last year with my girl friend and my sister and we got straight superiors. its a level 2.

Anyways, solos are march 3rd for me. oh man i am so not ready. i am playing Concert Etude by Alexander Goedicke 3nodding Opus 49. I love this piece. Trumpet and Piano duet. yup yup. oh man i need to find a private teacher soon.

Last year my solo was a multiple percussion piece, with about 10 different instruments. By myself. I got a 2+, probably because the judge was so impressed that I even attempted a piece like that.

Last year I played this crazy song for solo and ensemble, and then I forgot to number my measures, so the stupid judge gave me a 2 crying
