She glanced towards the main pride dens, then out over the horizon. The little white cub carefully snuck away, wanting to simply... Look. She'd never been beyond the sands, and wanted to know what was out there. She wouldn't stay away... No, she'd go home, she told herself. She'd never leave her sisters.
Curiousity, though, drew her to the edge of the desert, to the very border of the Pridelands. She paused, feeling the lack of utter heat. Blue eyes looked back at the sands. She prefered them, the shift of the granules, the way the sand burned... But she'd never felt grass. Curious, she placed a paw forward.
It would be a life-changing experience for her.

Hodari had been told by his mother that the reason their father was not always home was because he was a great hunter and preferred the freedom that was within the roguelands. She never spoke a negative word about Kei and so the young cub grew up with great ideals of his father. Hodari shared his father's dark coat and wore it with pride amongst the gold colored lions of the pridelands.
In an attempt to understand more of why his father would leave, Hodari took a chance to explore the farthest regions of the pridelands. He would have the company of his pale colored hare, Kutulia. She was a friend of the family and highly trusted by the cub's mother. And because Hodari would frown upon his siblings simply leaving, he was certain to tell his mother, grandmother and even the hare parents.
When he was granted permission, he began on his way, wearing a thin necklace with a single claw, given to him by his father. Hodari looked about curiously to ensure that Jasiri didn't follow. At times, his brother was so difficult to handle.
Although Kutulia felt almost silly tagging along on the cub's adventures, she found that Hodari and her shared many of the same qualities and this allowed the two to agree and get along. Hopping behind him, she perked her ears up, to be aware and alert in the case that something around them might stir. Smiling brightly, she looked over towards Hodari, "Curious about Kei, eh?" She asked, eager to break the silence once the two were out of earshot from Shiri and the others.

She wasn't actually expecting to run into anybody. As the cub walked, too distracted by the life around her, she foundherself tripping on a rock and tumbling. A squeel escaped as she tumbled, crashing through grass right in front of the other cub and the hare. She was too stunned and dizzy to notice she wasn't alone, though.

Kutulia was the first one of the two to hear the squeel and her eyes widened as she suddenly looked around Hodari for the culprit! When she noticed the pale white cub in front of her, she cocked her head curiously. Having been brought up completely in the pridelands, Kutulia now knew the look of a typical pridelander. This cub seemed larger and was built differently. Glancing over towards Hodari, she spoke quietly, "Think she's okay..?"
It was not that she was a girl, but rather that she was a cub in distress. Hodari ignored any differences and quickly made his way to her. "Are you alright? Can I help you up?" He tried not to get too much in her face, but wore a worried expression. Once things were figured out, he could understand who she was. As far as Hodari was concerned, she could have been a wandering pridelander like himself.

Jasiri, Moto to his friends, followed Hodari, but this time from a very far distance. He knew his mom would never have given him permission to go exploring, but Hodari always got to do the fun things. All he had to do was stay far enough back that Hodari didn't notice. So he kept them in the distance, barely at the edge of his sight. It was Kutulia, with her amazing hearing, that he really had to worry about.
As he was quietly following them, he got a bit distracted and started following a little field mouse. When he looked up, he was a good deal closer to his brother than he wanted to be, so he stopped. Then he noticed that his brother and the hare and stopped, and it looked like Hodari was talking to something. Moto began slowly slinking towards them, moving a little to the side so he could get around them and see what it was. His tail started twitching from his excitement, though he didn't notice it.

Rubbing a smarting spot, the white cub looked up. She'd never actually met a lion with green eyes, as it were, since just about all Firekin had blue, gold, or red eyes, some even having black. Green was next to unheard of. She'd also never seen such a pattern, so the first thing to scream in her head was that this wasn't a Firekin. This was, judging by the lay of the land, a Pridelander.
Swallowing a bit, Savitri carefully got up. "No, no... I'm fine... Thanks for offering, though." Who was it that had said Pridelanders were bad...? She knew somebody had. Oh, wait... She remembered who had told her that. Jua'taka had. She couldn't imagine why, though.

Lucky for Jasiri, Hodari was in such a hurry to scramble away that he didn't continually look behind him to make sure no one was following. While his younger brother was rather sneaky, it was his flame colored tail that often gave him away when they played with one another.
When the cub got up, Hodari felt a bit bad for her. She seemed incredibly lost and still hurt. While the Firekin had strict standards for colors and appearance, the pridelands were the melting pot of prides. They welcomed anyone that was kind and Hodari grew up knowing this fully. His own mother had been a rogue. Because of their friendly nature, the colors there were varying. Most common were the golds and yellows, but nearly nothing was unheard of.
Like the female cub, however, Hodari found the new cub striking. Her fur was entirely white and she had bright blue eyes. And while the pridelands were so varying, she still seemed unique of bodytype.
"Well.. I'm glad you're okay.." Hodari finally said, awkward from the silence. "I'm Hodari."
With Hodari busy with the new cub, Kutulia began to keep a close look out on all around them. She was the designated watcher for the cub and she was determined to do a good job. Her mother worried enough about her, she needed to prove that she was trustworthy not only to Shiri, but also Cheshi and Sungura. They still thought she was so young!
While Kutulia was listening for anything strange she thought she heard someone coming from nearby. Turning her head to inspect the noise, she was confused to find nothing. Curious, she took a few steps away from the cubs, but was careful not to go too far.

Moto continued to slink around the side, making sure to keep low and especially to not let his tail get more than a little off the ground.
Eventually he got around to the side of the group, to where he thought he was just out of Hodari's vision. He then slowly peeked his head up, just enough so he could see above the grass and find out who Hodari was talking to.
When he saw her, he froze. What is she? he wondered. She looks so different. Where did she come from? These and hundreds of other questions tumbled around inside his head. With all these thoughts running rampant in his head though, he forgot to take as much care to remain hidden, and he'd started to raise his head higher and creep closer without realizing it. It was almost as if he was drawn towards her by an unseen and unnoticed rope of curiosity.

She nodded, carefully shifting. "I'm Savitri..." She eyed the hare, having never seen one follow a lion around before. Shifting again, she watched Hodari. "Are you a Pridelander...? I've never met one before..." They were supposed to be the blood-enemies of the Firekin, weren't they? But he was so NICE... How could she call him an enemy?
Like Hodari, she didn't notice Jasiri.

Hearing something once again, the hare remained alert. She watched the two cubs in front of her, but also noticed the sound of foot steps approaching them. Taking a few additional steps back, she acted as though she was simply giving Hodari and the new cub some space. In truth, she was getting a better sideways look at whatever was approaching them.
It was only until Jasiri slowly brought his head up that Kutulia actually knew who he was. With a light chuckle, the hare ducked low to the ground, disappearing in the tall grasses. Hidden, she made her way towards the cub that had been following them, only speaking when she was at his side, "So, want to join the group, Jasiri?"
Hodari paid no attention to Kutulia leaving, very much curious about the white cub in front of him. While his brother felt somehow drawn to her, Hodari felt very similar. He still did not think of females in any way different to his friends, but knew that this one was something else.
When she finally offered her name, Hodari smiled. "It is very nice to meet you Savitri! That is a really pretty name." Having lived in the pridelands for his entire life, Hodari felt a deep connection to the lands. If anybody had a question about his home, he was more than eager to explain anything. At Savitri's question, Hodari smiled even broader, "Yup! I was born in the pridelands with my siblings! I'm surprised you've never met a pridelander! Mama says that we're one of the biggest prides around!" Hodari beamed at this little tidbit of information.
And then curious, he paused and looked off towards the direction in which he guessed she came, "But if you're new to the pridelands then where are you from?"

Jasiri jumped when he heard Kutulia speak. I hope they didn't notice that he thought.
"How'd you know I was here?!" he hissed. He was paying attention to Kutulia entirely now, and didn't even notice that his tail had popped above the grass. He also didn't notice just how loud his supposedly quiet hiss was.

The snowy white cub glanced over her shoulder at the dunes. Dare she tell him...? But... She couldn't lie... Her father had taught her better than that - Never lie unless it was necessary. In his case, he did it to protect others, something she didn't quite know yet. Turning back towards Hodari, she motioned. "I come from the Motoujamii desert... Where my pride lives... The Firekin.." She gave him a sheepish look. "Because I'm a Firekin."
She perked her ears, looking over towards the hissed words. Another one...? Getting up, she went over, watching the flame-colored tail. It was like the tail on Jua'taka's mother... Poking through the grass, she sniffed. "Who're you?"

Kutulia narrowed her eyes on the cub as though he should know the answer to his own question. "Some day you'll realize that us hares are built the way we are for the purpose of keeping a good look out on mischievous cubs like yourself! And watch out, your tail is popping over the grass!" The hare spoke sternly, but quietly as she pointed at the fire colored tuft of fur that was now visible to Hodari and the firekin female.
"Motoujamii desert?" Hodari looked curiously over the strange female in front of him. She did look so different compared to his sisters and the other females of their pride. He had heard of other prides around the pridelands, but knew little to nothing about them. With a nod, the cub became excited about the prospect of learning. "Well, that's really neat! I haven't heard of the firekin before!"
Before Hodari had the opportunity to ask the female any other questions, she seemed to notice something nearby. Slightly irked that he lost her attention, Hodari followed after to get a look at whatever it was. Spotting the very familiar tail, Hodari let out a loud hiss. "Jasiri!" He exclaimed. Not much longer ago they had just argued with their father about Hodari following Jasiri and here his brother was doing just that. "Why are you following me? Mom said I could go out with Kutulia!"

By the time Kutulia pointed out that his tail was over the grass, Hodari and the pretty white girl cub that had been talking to him were already coming his way.
Moto completely ignored Hodari's angry questioning of him and looked straight at Savitri and said in response to her question, "I'm Moto." He puffed up his chest and tried to stand tall and look big as he said this, and flicking his head toward Hodari said, "He's my brother, and while he hasn't heard of the Firekin, I have. Though I've never heard of a white one before. What's your name? You're awfully pretty."
Jasiri tried to sound important and smart. He'd heard of the Firekin alright, but not much. That came from his habit of sneaking around and listening in on adults' conversations that they didn't want the cubs to hear. Of course he usually got a good thrashing if he was caught, but this situation proved it was worth it. There was something else about the Firekin that he'd heard, something bad, but he couldn't think of it right now. He just remembered that the adults talking had been very angry about it. Oh well, that didn't matter. He needed to impress this girl cub, though if he'd thought about it, he wouldn't have been able to say why.

Her first reaction was to lean back in surprise at him. Her next reaction was to process the difference between what he said his name was, and what Hodari said his name was. "Wait, is it Jasiri, or Moto?" She eyed him, blue eyes flashing a bit.
She looked back at Hodari, nodding. "Yes, we were created by Finar-si generations upon generations upon generations ago." She smiled proudly, puffing her chest just a bit. "My grandfather is the king!" Then her face fell as she looked at her pelt. "But... Noble blood, not so noble pelt." She glanced between the brothers, then shifted. "I'm Savitri, by the way..." In her world of 'this pelt, that pelt,' name had so little meaning... She only identified lions by the pelt, not the name that went with the owner of the pelt.
