This was the first time Iyemina had ever visited Marcelles in all her 400+ years of living. Though you could say she was old as dirt (older than the US, at least), she had the fair appearance of someone in their late teens to early twenties. Some who were able to get close to her would say her actions and such reflected it, but Mina knew better than to believe them.

The first one hundred years of her life, she lived with the humans. Like her brother, she was accepted at first with open arms....but that was when they believed she was an orphan child and he was just a normal teen. The first heartbreak of her life was not when she was tossed away by the only people she knew, but when Tristan married a human girl. This meant that he had replaced his "sister," because now he had left her behind.

Now it seemed that her only friend, another Sorrow named Relíque, had also left her. Maybe it was because Iyemina had joined forces with Seidus (Ennui's other half), or maybe it was because Relíque had grown close to Ennui. Too close.

She shook her head, hoping to shake the images from her mind. Her intentions were never to hurt, but sometimes her determination and will got in the way. Mina was her biggest enemy, but she had learned that years ago. Now, with age, she had gained some smarts that fooled those closest to her, including Relíque and Seidus.

Suddenly, something called to her. Her heart pumped faster. What was it that she was after this time?

Marie, Marie,” exclaimed the adolescent, tugging at her guardian’s hand. “Come on! Why do you always have to look at everyone’s work?” Chione pouted, her brown eyes fixated on Marie’s face.

Huh?” was the blank reply. “Mar-ie,” sang out the sweet thing, “The day’s a-wastin’! Besides, you said you’d buy me an ice cream.”

This time, the whining was acknowledged with a sigh. “I should’ve never bothered taking you down to the harbor,” said the guardian. “I should’ve never bothered to allow you to take me here,” retorted the ward. “You always get distracted by the street artists.”

Oh really? Well you know, I was one of them for a while.” The epitome of a sour child, Chione replied, “And I care?

Oh shu- hush. If ice cream will get you to stop wagging that tongue, then I’ll get you something. But please- PLEASE- choose something cheap. My wallet isn’t that deep.” Chione grinned in satisfaction.

"Remember why you're there."
"I do, Vasska."
"Good. You have three days." The line went silent and the thin cell phone was placed into a black purse. The owner of the phone was a young woman named Imogen Andeo, no older than 22, with pale skin and no makeup. She was somewhat tall, with a willowy appearance. Her curly blond hair was kept up in a loose bun, held in place by three dark red chopsticks. Her slightly curvy form was encased in a black dress shirt, dark red brocade vest, ankle-length black skirt, black pumps and dark red stockings. She sighed and made her way up to the pupblic area of the harbor from where her husband's boat was kept. Her dark brown eyes moved from person to person, though few noticed since they were hidden behind a pair of slim sunglasses.

"My wallet isn’t that deep.” Her eyes zeroed in on two females...one was older, though younger than Imogen herself, and the other was a young girl. Imogen felt her heart sink. She missed her brother...and she was NOT going to have a child with Vasska. She smiled and made her way over to the two.

"Excuse me...I'm afraid I'm new here. I'm visiting some relatives of my husband, and I got a bit lost..." Oldest excuse in the book, but it always worked.

The ice cream shop, surrounded by its usual torrent of customers, was just ahead. Chione, her little hand holding tight to Marie’s larger one, not out of fear, but out of the sacred responsibility of staying on target, half skipped in glee. In sorry contrast, her guardian merely plodded along in defeat.

Marie did like to see if any new talent had appeared in town, and the harbor area was key to those interests.
Not to mention, one never knew when inspiration, that fickle mother of creation, would pay a visit. It was depressing, she silently mussed, to lose to but a child.

The “excuse me” caught her attention quickly. Usually she would tend to ignore such things, but in a bitter mood for a revenge- why not make the child wait a little longer?- Marie halted and turned to address the woman.

Do you have an...” she started to ask, but a heartbeat later, Chione, who had realized the blonde lady’s predicament, proudly exclaimed, most unhelpfully, “You get lost too! I always get lost. Marie tells me I have no sense of direction whatsoever.

The mentioned sighed; “How quickly that child switches subjects,” she exclaimed under her breath. A second later, she felt the tale-tell tug of Chione, once again focused upon her future snack.

Wait. I’m in the middle of something, hun,” chastised Marie before turning to woman, an apologetic smile on her lips. “I’m sorry about that. Now, like I was saying, do you have an address? I’ll see if I can’t point you in the right direction.

From behind her, Iyemina heard a woman's voice. At first she thought that she was talking to her, but the woman seemed to be chatting with another woman and a child. Perhaps the other woman's daughter, but they shared little to no resemblance. Interesting, Mina thought to herself, I sense something from the child. I should keep my eye on these three. A smile curled on her full lips as she turned her back to them.

Her hair would have given her away had she not kept it all in a ponytail. When it was down and she was onto something like this, her long brown hair spread out like smoke. It also smelled of smoke and ash.....but that was another story. For awhile, it seemed like the other were not going anywhere. So, trying not to act suspicious, she walked around behind the others. She picked up and apple....then felt something odd.

It was coming from the child. It was a power Iyemina knew, but did not know. Suddenly, her past research came to mind. You idiot, you are in Marcelles with the new "children" of Sionek. Though, they bare no scars on the inside like we do....

*Cough*

Mina found herself almost knocking over the child. In her best act, she acted like she hurt her. "Oh my! Please forgive my clumsiness! I have a horrible earache, and my balance is off. Are you hurt? I am so sorry!" Kekeke. Let's see if she knows what I know.

Imogen found she couldn't help but chuckle at the child's antics. She remembered watching other children do much the same.

"Yes, I'm afraid I do get lost a bit easily in new places. I try not to though..." She smiled and pulled out a business card for a small bar. "Yes, I do actually. I was told to meet up with my husband's relatives here." She wasn't completely lying. She was supposed to meet up with people her husband knew there.

When another woman bumped into the young girl, Imogen found herself on edge. Old habits died very hard...The edge faded a bit as the woman seemed concerned...though there was something off. Imogen was familiar with acts like that...she seemed to be using them herself quite often. No one suspected a woman...But somehow, the woman's intentions seemed less than harmful.

A pout was in full bloom on Chione’s lips, the young adolescent impatient. She shivered once, though her dress was more than warm enough for the sunny day. “Marie, I don’t feel well,” she exclaimed at once, and then, leaping at the chance, proclaimed, “I must be hungry!

The guardian merely held out a cautionary hand, once again telling the child to wait, and then took the proffered card. Chione clenched her teeth in annoyance.

Lemme see,” spoke Marie, studying the address. “I think I know this place, it’s...

Impact. The child never saw the lady coming, her hand knocked from Marie’s in the turmoil. “Marieeee,” she cried out instinctively from shock, though the pain faded quickly.

Her guardian spun, her attention jumping to the newest arrival. “Did she hurt you?” she questioned the child, her tone bristling with anger. Chione held up a calming hand. “No-no ,” she replied shakily to the woman with the dark hair as well as Marie after a few seconds. “I’ll be fi...

She crouched quickly, her arms wrapped around her legs, anguish crossing her forehead. “Marie, I feel funny,” she exclaimed, shaking slightly. In her confusion, she wasn’t able to identify the source.

Chione?” asked Marie, her soft tone frantic, turning her back on both woman. She knelt beside the child, one hand gently squeezing her ward’s shoulder for support. “Are you okay? Do you want to go home?

Oops. Iyemina did not mean to hurt Chione that much, if even at all. Frantic that her secret might be revealed, she tried to stay calm. "Honestly, I did not mean to hurt her. I did not even think I bumped into her that hard! Would you like me to get help? Would you like me to buy you something to make you feel better? Oh, I am so sorry!" Alright, so the last 'I'm so sorry' was not necessary, but Mina wanted to get her point across.

Were her powers affecting the child? She wondered, thinking quickly in her head. Iyemina had not read about it happening before, but it was possible. Possible because she, like her other kind, were made by the human known as Sionek. The girl, though, was created by....?

"Do I need to get help?"

The strange feeling wasn’t going away! Chione grimaced, her eyes tightly shut. “Make it stop, Marie,” she whined softly. Yet, Marie, unable to understand what was ailing the child, could offer only a hug at the most.

The adolescent nestled in her guardian’s arms. “Do you want to go home?,” asked Marie, again. “I could make you something like... um...” Well, her grandmother always made soup for the ill, so she seized upon that. “Uh... something to eat.

Mhrrrr,” muttered Chione unhappily. “What?” “Iwuneicceam.” Marie frowned. “English, please?” she demanded as patiently as she could manage. “Ice cream” burst forth from Chione’s mouth.

The sheer willpower of that child! “Would you mind?” Marie asked the dark-haired woman. She had offered, after all. “Anything will do.

Iyemina nodded, a concerned look on her face. Quickly, she left to find some ice cream.

I did not even ask what flavor she wanted. Bah, what does it matter? Chione and her owner seem normal....but that other woman is hiding something. Probably something like I am. I sense something familiar from her, too. In fact, it feels like she-

"Can I get a triple scoop, please? On chocolate, one vanilla, and one strawberry." Iyemina would no longer trouble her mind with knowing. For now, she wanted to sit back and watch. I hope Seidus and I gain knowledge from this. Actually, we all can. I plan on spreading the word....

By now, she had returned to the shop, handing the sweet thing her ice cream. "Here you go. Feel any better?" A fake concerned look painted on her face.

Imogen decided to worry about the woman later. There was something a bit strange about her, but nothing that required immediate investigation. And she didn't seem out to hurt the child or her mother(?)...So the blond turned her attention to the younger woman and child.

"Is there anything I can do?" She smiled bitterly in her mind. If only her husband knew what she did on the little 'missions' he gave her. Oh, she certainly did her job...but she also found people who didn't know who she was, or who she was associated with, and spent a brief time being 'free'. "I know a bit of first aid if there's anything scuffed or scraped."

Thanks,” chirped Chione, wiggling out of Marie’s embrace and eagerly grasping the cone, a smile bravely held on her face. She licked the ice cream from the top of the cone- strawberry, the triple structure shaking. “It’s good!” the child exclaimed, and bit off a mouthful.

You really shouldn’t eat it like that,” commented Marie awkwardly, though heartened by Chione’s liveliness. “You’ll get brain freeze. And besides, it’s dripping.” Her ward paused, her mouth open for another bite, and then proceeded with the action, ignoring her guardian’s advice. Swallowing, she murmured, “The feeling hasn’t gone away yet.” Except it had changed, though she didn’t bother revealing that; it wasn’t so much painful as foreign.

The corner of Marie’s mouth twisted; in times like this, her mind always fixated on the chance that since Chione was not a normal person, perhaps something had to do with that. “Can you describe it?” she wondered. The adolescent shook her head, her mouth too preoccupied to speak. Suppressing a dismal sigh, Marie ruffled the girl’s hair.

No, but thank you for the kind offer,” she said, glancing at the blonde woman. “I don’t believe she’s physically hurt; she’s not one to keep such things to herself. I’m hoping that whatever she’s going through will just pass over soon.

Iyemina did not stand around to talk much, but she was there incase something happened again. However, when Chione told Marie that her strange feelings had not gone away, a knot tied in Mina's belly. It was more because of the idea she had in mind, though, more than the fact Chione was going through a strange new sensation. Slowly, she turned back to face the little one, who was taking another bite of ice cream.

Her determination was strong. "Did the feeling ever go away, or did it just suddenly change? It might be because of the weather. Happens to me sometimes."

Iyemina's heart thumped.

A large dollop of ice cream slid down the cone, the drip streaming over Chione’s hand. Carefully watching, Marie’s face stiffened in shock for the child, the knowledge of the cold and sticky mess sending a shiver up her spin as if nails had been dragged across a chalkboard. Her ward met her grimace with a grin, her tongue darting out to clean off her skin.

If you just licked around the bottom of the cone, that wouldn’t have happened,” commented Marie. “Like how?,” responded the child when she had finished cleaning herself off. Carefully, Marie plucked the soggy cone, a gruesome saliva infested mess, and eyeing the food with disgust, neatened up the balancing ball of ice cream. How had her mother done the same for her children? Her stomach grumbled, but the good taste won out over utter rejection.

Here,” commented the guardian, restoring the cone to its place in Chione’s fist. “Be more careful. I’d hate for you to mess up your clothes.”

Chione stuck out her tongue, gently copying Marie’s former actions. “It’s dull,” she stated. “Eating like this.” She took a bite. Swallowing, she brought her brown eyes to meet those of the dark-haired woman.

It happens to you?” she asked, her curiosity picking apart the order of the comments. Then, she back-tracked. “And naw, the feeling’s still here.” She pursued her lips in intense thought, her forehead wrinkling in effort. Her memories stirred. “I think that might have changed. It wa- wave- wavered. That’s what happens when something wiggles but not physically, but you know what I’m saying, right?

She took another bite of ice cream, grimacing from the great destroyer- brain freeze- and with the melting treat still dazzling her tastebuds, commented, “W’e oou ween thu uh icuhce ‘emme ‘and.” The ice cream moved down her throat, but she didn’t clarify her garbled statement.
