I'm a very curious person and I would like to know, do you make your loli dress or are you able to buy them (if so where).
I ask this because where I'm from, unless your lucky to find it (or something simliar to it) in a store, you have to make it yourself.

I do both. Well, I'm in the process of making them.
Otherwise I buy brands.

I sew all my own skirts (all three lol, I made it sound like a lot, but there's only 3), and reconstruct blouses
I WISH I could buy brand T-T but that requires a job for monies
but I guess sewing is fun too, because no one else has exactly what you do since it's not mass produced like brand (oh, but those PRINTS!!!! I WISH I COULD MAKE MY OWN PRINTS!!!!!! ahem, [/spazz]) so there's pluses to both sides smile

That is true about pluses on both side, TalaRayne. My friend and I are pretty soon about to self teach ourselves how to make our own. Wish us luck. XD
Amanikitty, you said you buy yours as well. What store do you buy from? Online or offline?

brand is pretty much always online. unless you're buying secondhand from someone else Angelic PrettyBaby, the Stars Shine BrightMetamorphoseAnna HouseHeart Ethose are some of the more popular sites (especially AP and Baby) I'm a sweet lolita so I mostly used sweet lolita brands XD but there's gothic stuff too, and Baby has a pirate lolita section (Alice and the Pirates)

I try and do both. My sewing skills are crappalicious, though, so I'm sticking to simple skirts, bloomers and accessories for my hand-sewing needs. Ohman. Those bloomers are so comfy, though. Cotton flannel. <3
Anyway. Ahh. Buying-wise, I've mostly bought things second hand via the EGL comm sales, but I also have purchased straight from Metamorphose before. I can't wait for my Baby LP to get here, though. It was such an ordeal to get after a huge number of mix-ups, missed bids and indecisiveness on my part.

That is so awesome, minna!! Well, I will admit, I heart heart heart heart lolita, but I just recently got my first dress (or one simliar to it). Although, because we dont have Lolita stores near by (except for HotTopic which makes crappy ones) I am thinking of trying to sew my own (it will be my first time sewing) and this is one I'm planning on tryin to do: Lolita 1OR this one: Lolita 2What do you think?

I usually buy mine either straight from a brand site or off of someone on the Livejournal egl_comm_sales community.

I vote no to both, for several reasons:
1) Bodyline/Cosmates lolita outfits are not good examples most of the time. The second one you posted is one of their better examples, but I still don't like it [biased against wa-lolita because of how cosplay/costume like it looks]. 2) Wa-lolita is hard to pull off as a beginner and even harder to sew if you've never had previous experience.
Start simple. Make a very simple tiered skirt with ruffled hem and a bit of lace and pick up a blouse pattern at your sewing supply store to make a top. Learn the basics before you go all out, or else you're going to end up disappointed, frustrated, or else just in the middle of a giant mess.

Thank you, boconnotto, for your advice. ^_^ I actually like this style and I have a kimono pattern to go by and a friend with previous experience to help me. Later, I'll try other things, like the cute headdress (which I'm hoping to play with soon).

I agree with boco, but if you really want to make a wa-loli, I like the second one way better
best of luck with your sewing!

Working on a skirt right nooow... which probably will be done in a day or two. So many ruffles. o_o;
After that, I'm going to start in on an apple printed skirt with scalloped hem ['cause I was angsting over Meta not having put up the apple print on the site--and now I'm angsting over the white being pretty much entirely sold out].
