Now, i'm a big supporter of Obama, probably one of the more active supporters on gaia behind shem and brad, but after reading a msnbc report referencing obama's kenyan family monitering (just search for kenya) his progress in the primaries, a thought hit me.

what's to stop al-qeada from kidnapping and using his kenyan relatives (at least his dad) in a bid to assert pressure, or otherwise humiliate the u.s.
And at the very least, could this become an argument against obama.

just throwing that out there.

He would do what any good leader would do.

A) Move his family over here

or

B) (in case he didn't get a chance to do A for some reason or his family refused to do it or some s**t) he'd take it stoically and stand by his oath to protect and uphold the Constitution and these United States.

Because when we get down t it, why do we all like Obama? Is it his policies? His speaking? No, it's because the man is a leader, a real leader, and when a real leader is faced with a threat against his safety or the personal safety of his family or friends, he stands up anyway. You don't think that his safety and his family's safety will be endangered by sociopathic racists in the States if he runs? 10 to 1 odds say that he's already recieved at least one death threat from the Klan. But he's still running.

oh there is absolutely no doubt he's received multiple threats on his life, it's why he requested security shortly after he announced he was running, and it's why it was almost immediately granted to him, despite how early it was in the season.

i'm just noting this as a point of interest. Since this is situation that i suspect is relatively unique to obama and his parentage.

It would be an interesting maneuver.

I just don't see that happening. And if it did happen, I don't see it shaking him.

Once a person is president, is there any secret service protection for his family if they are considered at risk? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Heh. I went to a dinner party that was raising money for science equipment to take to a Kenyan school a few weeks ago. They had a slide show of the school and places they toured.

On this road there was this giant sign pointing in the direction of Barack Obama's aunt's house...and stating that fact. They also had a picture of the group with Barack's aunt... I think Sarah's her name. Everyone that saw the picture decided Barack should be more generous with his Kenyan family.

...there really isn't a point to this. Just people over there are really proud of him and don't hide it all that well.

To be honest, this one would have me worried too. If the Democrats don't go there, the Republicans will find a way...

Yes. The secret service provides it for the rest of their life unless they decline.
