Power/Birthmark RP

Lightening green eyes cased the kitchen carefully as if he was a spy on a mission. Empty at the present time. Perfect. He cocked his head and listened for any sounds that then tiptoed slowly across the floor to the counter, holding the tops and scanning for his prize. Toaster, microwave, some jar thingies Daddy gave him to play with sometimes, and there it was. The City of Gold to all toddlers; the ultimate prize. A jar of cookies just waiting for his little fingers to discover the rich chocolate chips within. He could hear his sister banging away on the pots and pans Mommy had given them but he wanted cookies instead. He reached out for the jar but it was pushed too far back on the counter. He wasn't deterred though. Footsteps sounded and he turned, caught then flashed the grin he knew would keep him out of trouble. "Cookie please?"

Sam shook her head then scooped the toddler into her arms, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Not before dinner, Toby." Reaching into the fridge, she extracted a cup with cars on it and handed it over to him then brushed her fingers through his hair and carried him out of the kitchen. Lici was on a roll, talking and walking and laughing and Toby just wasn't. He said a few words but not like his sister who jabbered away constantly. He'd been much slower to begin walking too, his twin tugging on him impatiently since she was ready to move. Sam had a feeling Toby was letting his sister have the spotlight and was much more content to sit back and let things go.

Carrying the boy into the living room where Xearus was attempting to untangle a string of lights, she shook her head and set the toddler down to play with his sister. "Are you sure you don't need any help?" Glancing at the still naked tree, she went back to getting the ornaments out of their boxes.

He obligingly took the cup and tipped it back, swallowing the blood and juice combination and holding onto his mother's shirt as he was carried back. Settling by his sister, he reached out and tugged on her hand. If they were quiet enough, they could easily slip away and she could help him get the cookies.

If he had his way, the tree would be a fake pre-lit one, but apparently that wasn't how things were going to be done. It was going to be real, the lights were going to be put on the old fashioned way, and he was going to be the one to do it. Thus why he was dealing with lights, grinning as he had just found success in untangling them amongst the clangs and bangs of his daughter. "Nope, don't need help. Got it all under control. See?" Plugging them in to test them...only to frown as he discovered all the red ones were out...which meant there was a red one burnt out somewhere. Damn it. "We should of just bought new lights."

She was making some sort of racket that she thought sounded good and making noises to it as well. That's what mommy and daddy did to the noises that came from the funny box. That stopped for a few moments as she watched her father playing with lights that weren't all on and then further distracted as her brother tugged at her. "You gots juicy?" Little frown. Well how come she didn't get any? "I wants." And pushing herself up off the floor at his tugging, they toddled to the kitchen...hey she assumed she was getting some juice now too. This was where the juice lived. "Juicy?"

She absolutely refused to have a fake tree and the real ones smelled so good, too. Quirking a brow and watching as he plugged them in, she snickered and dipped her head. "Mmhmm, I see." She set another box of ornaments aside and stood up, walking over. "These lights are perfectly fine. Why spend more money when we don't have to, even if we can afford it. Now come on and help me tighten the red bulbs and we'll see if that's the problem." And if not, well, they'd be unscrewing every bulb and replacing it until they found the one that was dead.

She'd already drank hers but Thobias offered his cup to her anyway. He didn't want the juice, he wanted a cookie. He pointed to the counter. "Cookie." She was taller than he was, maybe she could reach it. Frowning when he could clearly see that she wasn't any taller than he was, he toddled back by the bar and tugged on the barstool. Mommy and daddy moved these things all the time so it couldn't be that hard. He scooted it a little bit but it was heavier than he thought. "Sissy..."

"Because we have the money and they're not perfectly fine if I plug them in and there is no red." Shaking his head lightly with a sigh as he sat crosslegged on the floor, dealing with lights. Holding out one end to her he gave her a smirk. "You start at one end, I'll start at the other and we'll figure out what happens in the middle."

She took the cup, tipping it back to get at what was in there. Hey he may not want it but she was always up for some juice. But oh the magic word got her attention and she carefully with both hands set down the cup in the floor and toddled over to her brother as he was tugging on the stood. "I help." Grabbing a leg she pushed against it to help add the power needed to move the stool. "Getting cookies?"

She let him complain and then rolled her eyes and plopped down on the rug, taking the other half and screwing each bulb in tighter. Frowning as they nearly bonked heads in the middle and still had no red, she shook her head. "Okay, so I guess the other option is to unscrew each bulb and put in another one. At least until we find the one it is and then we can stop. But we need to work together and do it one at a time so that we won't have to worry about electrocuting or anything."

He nodded to his sister and together they managed to pull the stool over to the counter. It took him a moment to climb up onto the padded stool top and reach for the cookie jar, pulling it towards him with careful hands. His logical mind told him it would be smarter to get the jar on the floor and then attempt to open it so he began to inch down the stool and set the jar on top of the stool. Both feet on solid ground, he brought down the jar and set it on the kitchen floor.

Plopping down, he reached for the top and began to try to tug it off but his parents had gotten too smart for him. The jar was one that had to have the clasp released before it would open and he couldn't figure it out. Getting frustrated, he slapped the top of the jar and frowned at it. "Sissy try." Maybe she could get it because he sure couldn't.

"Mmm electrocution. Yes because I don't want to spend my time all shocky feeling or down in the ER or anything. So then...you take one out, and I'll put the replacement in. If they light up, then yay if not we put the old one back and try the next. We'll do it your way, feel loved." Thusly onto that task...oh decorations...

Now sitting on the floor with the jar between them, she took her turn at trying. Well...tugging as her brother did wasn't working...and bonking it wasn't helping because she tried that too. Both hands on it, she shook it some by sliding it back and forth on the floor. But her attention came to the silver band and tab of metal at the top. Fingers grasping she pushed down on it, but nothing was happening. Lici gave a frustrated noise. "No open." A sad look to her brother then. "No cookies? Tell mommy." Mommy could get the cookies out, right?

He knew his sister would have the solution if she couldn't get it open. He tried to figure out the clasp again and even almost got it but ended up just pinching his finger instead. Sucking on it and starting to cry, he got up and started to move towards his mommy so she could kiss it and make it all better. Grabbing his sister's hand, he tugged her towards the living room, forgetting that Mommy had said no already. Glancing back for a moment, he remembered what Daddy had told him. If you wish for something hard enough, sometimes it comes true. Holding his sister's hand, he squeezed his eyes closed tightly and scrunched up his face, wishing he could have a cookie.

The shattering of glass had Sam's head coming up. "What was that?" Suddenly, she was struck by the noise that every parent fears: silence. "Xe? Where's Thobias and Felicity?" Dammit, she knew they'd figured out the baby gates. A moment later she was up and moving towards the kitchen. The stool, two toddlers, and the scattered shards of the broken cookie jar added together and she shook her head. Putting on the stern "Mommy" voice, she crooked a finger. "Thobias. Felicity. Come here."

HE jerked his head up at the sound of breaking things and frowned. "Damn dogs are probably roughing again..." But then a more worried look as his wife had other ideas...and they were both up quick as could be, distangling from lights and heading to the kitchen. "They got inventive on us." Stepping around the mess a moment to shove the stool back into place where it needed to be as Sam was going to play bad guy. He had done it last week.

She frowned again as he apparently pinched himself as he was trying and of course they both knew to seek out mommy and daddy to make it feel better. Getting herself up, she let her brother do the leading by the hand before bumping into him as he stopped. A tilt of her head as she was trying to figure out what he was doing...before she was clutching him tightly as the sound of breaking things and the cookies were all over the floor. A moment later though they were staring at mommy who had that tone of voice they recognized by now. Popping her thumb in her mouth for her own comfort reasons...she nudged her brother. They knew to come when mommy looked like that.Mm...she didn't like broken things. They looked scary.

Thobias gulped, knowing they were both in trouble though it had been his fault. He hadn't wanted to break the jar, only get to the cookies inside. Uncertain as to what exactly had happened, he pulled his sister along with him and stood before his mother. "Not Sissy. Me."

Sam had called both of them to get them away from the glass. She hadn't told Felicity she couldn't have a cookie but she had told Thobias. A shake of her head and she glanced between the twins. She couldn't very well punish one and not the other but she had told Thobias something specific and she didn't know how involved Felicity had been on the whole escapade. Taking both children by the hands, she led them into the living room where two small chairs set away from but near the fireplace. Plopping little butts in chairs, she set the timer for three minutes, talking to them both about what they had done wrong. Nodding to both of them, she poked her head around the corner. "Be careful, Xe. I'll get the broom for you."

Thobias didn't usually become really agitated or upset when he was punished but the fact that his sister was being punished and she hadn't done anything upset him. He started to cry, loudly, and stomp his little feet. "Not Sissy!"

She gave a pouty frown as her butt was plopping in the chair and the timer set. But she didn't break anything...she helped though. Kinda in a way. But it had been his idea. She had wanted to ask mommy. But a look over to her brother, wanting to cuddle him to stop his tears but mommy kept the chairs apart from one another so they couldn't play or touch while in time out. Okay then, watery eyes because she was upset. From where she was, she could see the mess on the kitchen floor. Staring at the jar, she wished it was like it used to be. Then Toby wouldn't be sad anymore...did not like little brother crying.

He nodded to his wife. "Yeah, I will." Shaking his head as he made move to fetch the trashcan and pull it closer so he could pick up the bigger pieces and not have to carry them across the room. Xearus jumped in reactionary surprise as the shards and cookies on the floor trembled before they all snapped together and then...lo and behold, the jar was whole once more as if never broken simply sitting on the floor and all the cookies were back in it. It was even latched. Ooooh boy...."Sam?...Is there a gas leak in the house, or did I get shocked and not know it.....or something like that? I think I'm hallucinating and as a psychologist that very much worries me." Out of all people, he shoulden't be hallucinating. But he really thought he was now...that jar was just broken and cookies were all over the floor.

Sam sighed as Thobias began to throw a fit and rubbed her eyes. She hated it when she had to punish her kids...hated it more than she hated abortions or stillbirthed babies. "Thobias." Mommy voice once again. "Stop it right now." It was parenting dilemmas like these that she didn't know how to solve. Technically, she'd told Thobias no and not Felicity but Thobias had implicated Felicity as well. Of course not quite three year olds didn't understand that but there was nothing she could do. Felicity and Thobias were both familiar with the rules. "You know the rules. If you throw a fit, you sit there longer or Mommy will have to discipline you." Watching her son to ensure he was listening, she stood back up and pulled the broom out of the utility closet.

Carrying the broom into the kitchen, she dropped the dustpan on the floor. "Gas leak? What are you-" Pausing as she stared at the jar...that was back together in one piece and then at the broom in her hand. "How did you...?" Shaking her head. "Xearus? What's going on?"

The very last thing Thobias wanted was physical punishment from his mother the way she'd threatened. He was upset for his sister and her teary eyes weren't helping the situation. Getting up, he gave her a big hug."I sorry."
PostPosted: Thu Jan 10, 2008 7:54 pm

She gave him a hug, but then gave a blink and pushed him away some. "Not 'spose get up. Mommy angry more." There as no reason to cause more trouble, even if they were upset. But then a point to the kitchen so her brother would look. "All better. Lookit."

"I didn't..." Tilting his head and watchign the jar as if he was waiting for something to happen more. But it innocently sat there...and apparently he wasn't seeing things because Sam was seeing exactly what he was seeing. "Okay...so we're either both having a psychotic episode, which is hightly unlikely...or something more freaky is going on. That thing was broke, right?"

He nodded to her, aware that he was breaking rules but he wanted to make sure she was okay. Turning around, he toddled forward slightly to get a better look and saw the cookie jar and his parents standing there watching it. Back to the time out chairs, he gave her a happy grin. "Better." Emphatic nod and plopped back in his chair to wait for the ring that signaled they could get up and play.

Leaning the broom against the counter, she crossed her arms. "I don't think we're having psychotic episodes though I don't like the latter option anymore..." She was a scientist...these things could be explained. Right? Pacing the kitchen now, she began murmuring to herself. "They used the stool to climb up and get the jar, then they must have dropped it and..." She paused a moment and glanced over at the twins, innocently sitting in time-out. "Xe...if the twins had been anywhere near the jar when it broke, they would have been cut...right? They didn't cry and I saw no blood anywhere. What's going on?" Emerald orbs, glazed over with worry, studied him closely.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 11, 2008 2:58 pm

And he was just confused...really really confused. Stepping to the jar...he poked at it with the toe of his boot a moment. "Yup, it's even real." Turning his eyes up to watch her now pacing the floor...he knew he scientific self was probably spazzing over things right now. "If they were going to drop it...it would be near the stool. It's broken in the middle of the kitchen, away from the counter and stool. Or at least it was." Nodding to her thoughts then. "Most likely...it is heavy. One of them would of at least been. Or they would of cried from being scared." He sighed and took on his thinking look.

"Okay, let's hypothesize...I mean, we're vampires. That doesn't make us normal. Among the general 'vampire' race there are subspecies that range in various ways of powers, abilities, and restrictions. Us for example...we can handle sun, but we more or less genetically traded in the more supernatural things aside from our healing for that. Other vampires can't even stand artificial sunlight. Maybe...this is a sort of coincidence like that...they just hit on a certain gene in our subrace that amplifies out more supernatural things. We know they can handle sunlight, we've had them out in it before."

She stared at him for a long moment and shook her head, "You're telling me that you want me to believe that my children...have powers?!" Okay, the rest of his explanation soothed the science part of her and she curled a tendril of hair around her finger. "I suppose that's more logical than my pathetic thought that they might have set the jar on the stool and become distracted. It's not exactly a flat surface and we all know how easily things can fall." Another shake of her head and she looked around the huge kitchen. "But then the jar would have been shattered closer to the stool and that doesn't explain it's remarkable wholeness now."

Genetically speaking, it made sense and there were cases of certain vampires having more traditional--though she shuddered to use that wording-- powers, but it was rare and most cases weren't documented. "It is possible..." she said slowly, "but what precisely did they hit on? Can they shatter glass only or other things as well? Is it a shattering power or is that just the effect it took this time?" She studied the twins and then her husband just as the timer rang, singaling the end of the three minutes. "Maybe we should ask them?"
