court?

my ex-fiancee is taking me to court over a comment that I didn't say, and he can't prove I said it either so I'm not worried. and I have to testify for my grandmother that she didn't hit his father. (She's like 5" and he's 5'6" AND was standing 3 steps above her so add 16 " onto his height)

I just don't want to look too cutesy or over the top because who knows what the judge will think. I was thinking about just wearing a nicer blouse of mine and matching it with a fish-tail skirt (but not as tight) and a nice blazer with a cute broach. but I'm not completely sure. I want to remain loli, but not to the fact that the judge isn't going to take me seriously, you know? So any help would be appreciated.

You shouldn't wear Lolita at all to court.

I second that.

I dont think not wearing lolita to court will make you any less loli, but I mean, if something serious is on the line and your wearing loli could affect it, I would play it safe XD

thanks, that's why I was thinking just a skirt with maybe a ruffle on the bottom of it or something. and try to keep it formal. I was just curious if there's even a formal sort of thing in the loli world for it..

Compared to the real world? No.
Lolita is frivolous as hell and even the most formal of lolita dresses or styles is going to get weird reactions in a place of business or law. You really should keep things straight and clean, skip the urge to wear things with ruffles or lace, and try your best to look presentable, professional, and reliable. The judge [or jury, I'm not sure what kind of court you're being taken to; I'll just assume there's no jury involved] probably won't think you look terribly reliable or believable if you show up wearing what people normally think of as weird.

Think of it as a job interview for a big company. They're not going to hire a girl who dresses like a retarded Victorian child, they're far more likely to take an immediate shine to the girl in the skirt suit right off the bat, regardless of ability or skill. People do judge on appearances, especially in a setting like court or job interviews.

If you want to dress as Lolita to outing ur..mmm court meeting, what ever have you, what ever look you are trying to pull off differs what to wear. Sweet, classic, elegant?

And, in reference to boconnotto, you should be a little sympathetic to others around you when dressing in Lolita. Not everyone may find that suitable in a house of law. Lolita should be adored, and displayed in a less unsympathetic environment (courts aren’t known for their fashion conscious crowds, you know surprised ).

I know this is absolutely not the place, but I want to make an ouji themed costume, right now~! Where did this feeling come from? .-.;; Good luck and all with your court date. ^o^

You don't have to wear Lolita. Maybe it's not the best clothing for this occasion?
Or if not then an maybe an elegant, black Classic Lolita dress.

There is a time and place to wear lolita.

Court is NOT one of those.

Go dressed professionally.

I have to second that. Dress buisness. A suit with trousers or a skirt. Look as professional as you can. If you have any sort of paper's you need, don't use a cutey folder, use a plain folder from Office Max or something. Even in court, what you're wearing sometimes does make the difference. The more professional you look, the more you'll be taken seriously. Do not wear anything remotely Lolita to court. Trust me on this.

i don't think it's right for a person to take you less seriously because of how you dress.
that's just not alright with me.
wear what you are comfortable with, i'd say. just don't dress too casual, show a little respect and act like your serious. they don't normally care too much of your outfit, just your altitude.

Just because you don't think it's "right" doesn't mean it's not going to happen. It's not worth the risk of blowing a court case because you want to be pretty.

"Act" serious? Show a "little" respect? It's court. You'd better be damn serious.
And first impressions mean everything. The first thing they see is how you're dressed, not how you're acting. Lolita doesn't belong in the courtroom.

First impressions is always something that can make or break a situation. It's best that you'd look to be ready for a job interview or something serious, rather than for a tea party. :/

Alright, this conversation has kind of been talked to death, really. Additionally, the actual original poster has probably already gone to court and dealt with it. This is being moved to the FAQ subforum for later reference but it is being locked for the time being since there isn't really a need to keep going with the discussion.
