It was just beyond nightfall and the most unusual thing had come upon the wandering mare with sunset colored hair. She was lost, for the first time in her life, she was really, truely lost. Not usually the type to wander into territories too far and unfamiliar, Maui now found herself in what appeared to be a very difficult-to-escape situation. She could fly well enough now, a trait formerly nearly non-existant in her ability range, spite being a winged soquili. But unluckily the atmospheric winds were quite high---too high for her lack of experiance in flight.

Grounded and without way to get bearings, she wandered through the dark and eerily silent terrain. Hoping to come across something or someone what could perhapse help. Or...at least offer her protection for the night.

Vergil was wandering. It was something that he did often these days, in an attempt to get his mind of the melancholy mood that seemed to hang over him like a grey cloud...obscuring anything that might have brought him some ounce of happiness or pleasure. And naturally, he blamed it entirely on his current state and that wretched younger brother of his.

The darkness didn't bother him here, for he could see as well in the dark as in the light, due to his heritage. With a little sigh, he was about to head another direction in search of a suitable place to rest for the night...when his eyes landed on something that stood out from the trees and grassy landscape...especially in the growing darkness.

It was another Soquili, and a female at that. Just what was someone like her doing wandering about so late?

Maui froze at the sound of hoof beats in the silence. She could see her breath on the air since she'd begun to breathe ever faster. "Who's there?!" she called out naively, looking in all directions. If something was out there it would now know she was there, whether or not whatever had previously spotted her. She flitted her wings a moment and shook off a shiver. Like she didn't stand out like a sore hoof during the night anyhow... she thought.

Oh dear gods above...she was really a lost little soul wasn't she? Trotting in her direction, he spoke in return, "Just a devil in the dark, my dear..." His voice, however, sounded pleasant enough, and she could take the greeting as she desired. He wasn't out to harm her, for she was no threat to him...and atop that she seemed a lady...and not one of the impish creatures that caused his hackles to rise.

Maui now peered in the direction in which the clothed stallion was trotting towards her. Wait...a clothed stallion?! Maui flattened her ears. She'd had much trouble in the past involving two clothed stallions. So much so that she was starting to think that clothes on stallions were some sort of bad taboo. Taking a deep breath in, she reposed her ears and steadied herself. Best to always give someone the benifit of the doubt. Rather than grouping them in with past problems due to ironic similarities she figured. It didn't help raise her hopes any, since he'd referred to himself as 'a devil in the dark.'

Being ladylike as she was though, she greeted him with smile and a nod as soon as he'd fully approached. "Ah, I was hoping you wouldn't be something that intended on making me a late dinner" she replied wittily, intending to lighten the situation by breaking the ice and awkwardness new meetings usually caused. "My name is Maui, might I know your name? I'd be rather pleased in being able to call you something proper rather than a "devil'" she added politely. He wasn't very fond of himself, was he? she pondered. Not too many gentlemanly looking stallions referred to themselves as such. Maui couldn't help but wordlessly wonder the exact meaning of it.

He sighed softly, a horse-like...whuffling sound. "Mmm. Well, believe me, miss, I don't intend on eating you for dinner. I am many things, but I am not a cannibal." He informed her matter of factly, his long silver tail swishing lazily from side to side. His blue eyes, however, were alert, focused. Thus far he'd met few stallions, let alone clothed ones, but there seemed to be an ample supply of females, though he'd met few quite as lovely as this lass...and she had wings. A shame she couldn't properly use them in the dark...for he had already deduced her problem.

"I am called Vergil. Vergil Sparda." Introducing himself, he bobbed his head in a polite sort of bow. "But I fear that devil, miss Maui, is indeed in my blood. It is a powerful thing...though I'm probably far different from the devils that you know. Wanton violence and tomfoolery are far below me..." He smiled faintly, just for a second and then it was gone. "...so you have nothing to fear. And I, unlike your kind, have no trouble seeing in the dark."

At the comment of eating her she'd giggled, but her glee quickly faded. "Devil? As in something different from kalona or skinwalker blood?" she asked, still not quite understanding what he meant. She knew of no other type of 'devil' in the lands. Maui however decided it best not to press the measure, as in the dark she couldn't tell if he was fond of the heritage or not. "Well I'm glad of that. Most kalonas and skinwalkers are fond of senseless bloodshed and evil-doings" she added. There was a moment's silence then she perked up a bit. "Say, you did mention you see well in the dark?! Well---I---I'm lost" she replied, cringing. Normally she wasn't ever imbarrassed about such a matter, but he seemed a wandering intellectual type and wondered if he'd be bothered by an annoying triffle of helping a rather brightly colored mare to get her bearings.
