"Experience dictates that you're not too bright," Fish said to Maria as they cut through the alleyways of Middling. He wasn't at all thrilled to be working with her. Rather, he would have taken anyone in that shop over her. Including the clueless little newbies. He felt bad about Vlad, having met the kid briefly, and worried since he knew a bit about the situation. As for Abbot... he didn't know the man, but Poseidon seemed very, very tense about the situation.
"So when we get up there, follow me, okay?" he asked. Last time they'd met, Maria had been about ready to go drop kick a Blacksuit's knee, and he couldn't risk it now. He had his trident and his powers, but she looked unarmed.
Don't underestimate Izanami, Poseidon murmured. She's a god of death.
A wimpy one, thought Fish.
It was just a little further to Uppers.

“Do not under estimate me. I am not the same person you remember,” was all Maria said as she pulled her jacket closer to her body and followed Fish through the alleys, but keeping a bit of distance between the two of them. She still did not trust him, seeing as he did not seem too thrilled to be working with her in the first place and plus it did not help that he thought that she was an overall dumb a**.
Now, she was hoping that she Vlad would keep quiet, and not get himself killed. It was nice being able to talk to someone who was not about to either a. kill you or b. think you were worthless and totally incapable of anything.
Just remember the training and everything I have taught up till this point, stated Izanami as Maria set-up up her distance again between herself and Fish.

"Then I'm expecting you to prove it at some point," said Fish, making a bit of a hmmph sound in his throat. She sounded like a bad kung-fu movie.
"Just don't do anything stupid and we should be fine," he reasoned. "You got a weapon?"
They turned another corner and the alleyway opened up into the brightness of Uppers's central plaza. Fish grinned.
"Let's head in."

“Don’t worry I’ll prove myself one way or another, and this time I won’t be so stupid,” Maria said as she stepped out into Uppers, and grabbing the bracelet on her wrist. “And my weapon is right here.”
Maria followed Fish into the central plaza and was happy to see that they had made it the main way to their destination.

"Now the fun starts!" said Fish. It was night, but the lights off the buildings made the city shine like the surface of the sun. It was all government buildings here - any one of them could have been blacksuit HQ.
"We're going to have to wait for a sign if we want to know which one we're heading for."

“I’ll take care of must of the wait, you just keep an eye out,” Maria said as she closed her eyes and tilted her head down, as she cleared her head and concentrated on everyone around her. Then very slowly she moved, lifting her head up and scanning around the area, with eyes remaining closed she began her hunt for one of the souls that belonged to the Black suits.
After scanning the area like that for a few moments, she located three of the souls. “I believe our building is the one over there,” she said as she pointed to one of the last building on the street.

"You sure?" asked Fish. That seemed too easy. But the building looked big and important enough. What agency was it primarily associated with? He scanned the front for some clue.
Internal Bureau of Security, he read. Of which the Blacksuits were probably a branch.
"We can't just waltz right in," he said. "There has to be a janitor's entrance or something."
He crept towards the street.
"Let's move," he told her, and broke into a light jog across the plaza.

“I am positive there in that building,” said Maria as she took off after Fish taking one last look before opening her mind back up. “There is a janitor entrance on the left side of the building too that we can enter.”
So there were some benefits of living in Uppers, Maria told herself, as she got closer to the building. Maybe this mission was not going to be a totally bummer after all.

"Really?" asked Fish, hanging a left into the alley and scanning the wall. Sure enough, there was the entrance. How the hell did she know all this? Whatever, better to not ask. He stepped up to the door and tried it.
Locked.
"Yeah, and do your all knowing powers tell you if there's a janitor coming?" he asked.

Maria stepped back away from the wall and closed her eyes again, and scanned the area in front of the door looking for any one that was near. “The closest person to the door is still a ways away down another hall. As long as he does not hear us getting ourselves in we should be fine,” Maria said, as her eyes remained close to make sure that she knew where the other person was going.

Fish tried the door again - still locked. He crouched down and investigated the mechanism - it wasn't a card key lock or retinal scan like a main door would have, just a rusty key-and-bolt latch. He could pick this, he just needed the right tools.
"You got a hairpin?" he asked Maria.

“I should have one,” responded Maria as she opened her eyes and reached down into one of the pockets of her carry bag. After a few seconds of feeling around in the bottom of the pocket, she pulled out a hairpin. “Here you go.”
Then she leaned against the wall, and scanned the area to make sure that no one was coming from any way.

Fish took the hairpin from Maria and inserted it into the lock. He pressed his ear to the door and jiggled it a bit, listening for the tumblers popping. After what seemed like forever but was actually only about four minutes, he heard a click and the door unlocked. Standing up, he turned the handle cleanly and pulled the door open. Bright light from the antiseptic white hallway within spilled out into the alley.
"Anyone coming?" he asked, removing the pin from the lock and tossing it back to her.

Maria caught the pin as Fish tossed it back to her, opening her eyes as she shoved it back into the pocket of her bag. “No one is coming this way and the janitor seems to be moving away from where we are. So we should be good for not running into anyone. Wait,” she said as she turned her head and looked down the alley back toward the street. “We should be getting into the building now because someone is coming this way and this person doesn’t seem to be too friendly.”
