Keeya shivered as she hugged the fliers she was out passing around close to her chest, no longer able to enjoy the bound of her jumping stilts. The girl rubbed her arms, goosepimples raising under her leotard, "..I should have asked for a warmer costume..."

The girl was dressed up as an Earthen Sprite to advertise the Theater her Aunt and Uncle ran, facepaint glittering on her skin, lacy wings drooping behind her, vines lacing across the thin green material of her leotard, with matching pants over her stilts, which ended with little latex goat hooves.

All an elaborate cover to hide her own features in plain site: The branching ears, the roots criss crossing her skull, and the rise of little trunks from those roots, each ending in a burst of tiny leaves. To most, it was a very elaborite and realistic costume, but to the girl it was something she had to live with her entire life.

Sniffing, she lingered at the corner of an alley way, finding the vent of a heating system puffing access warm air onto the street to rejuvinate her for her walk back to the theater, getting lost in the joy of being able to feel her fingers again.

Ah, the theater district. Anubis liked any goddess who sent him on an errand here. From the moment they had met, Edinkira had reminded him of a more motherly version of Persy, and they had clicked over their shared continent of origin.

Anubis paused, spying thee girl standing in front of the vent. He was unsure whether she was in costume, divinely marked, or some combination of the two.

He struggled to remember some Shakespeare.

"Are you that knavish sprite, that merry wanderer of the night... that goes by the name of Keeya?" he asked.

Keeya turned her head quickly, raising an eyebrow at the man that approached her; While she recognized it as an attempt at Shakespeare, how he knew her name was questionable.

She bounced a little on her spring stilts in thought before stepping away from the warmth of the vent and into the light of a streetlamp, still keeping a safe distance from him, "I am that merry wanderer of the night. And you are...?"

"I work for the good fairy Edinkira," chuckled Anubis, fully aware that was not the next line. He ran his thumb over the carving in his hand, a relic from long lost Africa, given to him by the Goddess.

"She would that you were her servant, rather than keen Oberon's," added Anubis, bullshitting lines now. Oh well. Shakespeare was shot to hell these days anyway. He'd seen a production of Romeo and Juliet recently where both leads were the sad sort of pretty boy male that usually wound up pouting and posing in nothing but their undies. It had been... odd, to say the least.

He held out the carving, and the enameled wood glinted in the streetlight.

"Have you heard of The Game?"

Keeya's hesitation melted away at the mention of Edinkira, her mouth dropping agape slightly as she stepped closer to Anubis, "Edinkira... You mean... The Voice?"

A cold wind blew, ruffling the leaves of her hair, leaving the girl hissing softly in pain. She was not a fan of winter, "She's been quiet lately."

She stepped closer, eyeing the carving - From this distance there was almost no doubt her hair was not just dyed to look like roots but actual wood pressing against her skull, "I've heard whispers in the street about a game. Kids.. Odd ones like me.. Are vanishing into it.. And they say it has something to do with the monsters..."

"It's real, isn't it?" Keeya looked up at Anubis, her face calm and relaxed, "Edinkira, The Game. I'm like this because of it, because of her. I'm supposed to be a part of it... Right?"

"The monsters are part of it," said Anubis, admiring the intricacy's of the girl's hair. EdinKira had done a good job with her. She reminded him a bit like Persy in the way the weather obviously pained her, though she seemed to have no reaction to the aura of death that followed him. Persy couldn't stand death gods...

He held the carving closer to the girl.

"All you've gotta do to claim your place it to take the leopard," he said.

Keeya's eyes met Anubis's, searching for something. After a little while, she smiled brightly, wrapping one long fingered hand around the statue, which warmed her cold skin, "I'll try and do my best."

"Keeyaaaa!"

A voice echoed over the wind, and Keeya turned her head, her heart suddenly in her throat as she slid the Ebony-statue out of the mans hand and shifted back and forth on her stilts, "I gotta go back home. Where should I go after this, I don't know anything else about the game? Are there really more kids like me?"

"Yes," said Anubis, "And you'll meet them soon enough." His skin prickled as the wind picked up. There was a storm coming.

"You'd better run along," he suggested, feeling like doing the same. He wanted to be inside when it hit.

"But where do I-" She cried softly as a strong blast of cold air ripped through her, huddling into herself as her leaves browned and danced madly in the wind. The girl shivered, her eyes squinting tight into the wind. Without another word, she turned and ran into the night.
