Alright... ive never played with my pinky finger because its too weak to push down the string. Well i just watched a video of me playing something, and i look like a complete Nub... im holding all my fingers close to the fretboard (like the should be) except that littlest finger.
Can someone suggest some strength building exercises or something?

There are a lot of players that don't use their pinky finger for that exact reason. I use my three strongest fingers for the most part, when I do use my pinky its only with the aid of my ring finger to press down on it as well. I would suggest that as it will help your pinky get used to being near the fret bord at least, and will also help it get stronger so that you can use it more by its self.

It's kinda hard to get your pinky to do anything. You could always do what Cliff did and rest your pinky on a pickup, or you could adopt a four finger technique. Index, ring, middle, pinky. Just do it over and over, starting very slow, on some very easy bass lines. It's a pain in the a**, but it works.

you should really use your pinky to fret notes

work on playing easy bass lines with just the pinky to build its strength then play some scales using the pinky

then try to play all the notes in the scale using the pinky

then when its strong enough you can stop that

Oops, my mistake. Well in that case, whenever you go to fret with your pinky, use your ring finger to help hold the note down, till your pinky is strong enough to do it on it's own. And work on songs that have a 5, or 6 fret gap between notes and don't slide, just reach with your pinky.

That's a pritty good length to be reaching. well if you don't lift up your fingers it is. But yeah I recomend around that length as well it will help build strength and dexterity. Though it is perfectly fine to not use your pinky. There are people who don't I'm sure.

Whats a MoP
If you mean Master Of Puppets, i can do it, it would just be a hell of alot easier if i had the extra length to stretch out with my pinky.

Thanx for the help peeps.

First off, by no means have I mastered the use of my pinky, that being said I shall help.

I recommend that you use a metronome for these Exersizes, if you dont have one, goto http://www.metronomeonline.com

On your E-string, starting on C (8th fret) and start in first position (index finger) on C< then middle on C#, ring D pinky Eb then move the index to the A-string and do the same thing, then D string, then G, back to D, then A, then E doing the same pattern

So you are going up chromatically up the neck on all the strings, now the trick is, do it at a slow pace, and whenever you goto the next note, do NOT lift up any of the other fingers, when you change strings, try to only change the finger that you need, not your whole hand. After you get back to C on the E go down a half step to B and do it again, all the way down the neck to F( first fret).

Also, make sure that your thumb on the back of the neck is in the center of the neck, not squeezing the neck, it will help your fingers spread out, since when you want to move to a different string, your thumb will move as well.

also scales/arpeggios also will get your pinky in shape.

If you need any more help just PM me and i'll try to help when I can.

EDIT: in your siggy pic, look at yuor thumb position, move that down to the center of the back of your bass neck, that will spread your hand out.
