“You didn’t have to hit me so hard!” Koro said
“… I didn’t.” Kailiax said “You hit yourself with your staff.”
Mayor Tena began to lose hop in her new warriors. Stroking her long beard she began to think.
“Brave warriors!” She bellowed. “You are my last hope in all of Gaia! I leave everything in your hands.”
“Just point me in...” Koro began to say before once again tripping over her robe and falling face first into the hard cold floor.
“Mayor Tena, the princess’s life is in good hands. Consider the dragon as good as dead.” Kailiax took a bow and left passing by Koro who was dusting herself off.
“Heh...uh...” Koro stumbled after Kai.
Out side the town hall Kailiax could see the mountain where the dragon resides. Money wasn’t the reason Kailiax wanted to slay this dragon. He had in fact been in love with the princess. He would always watch her from afar. Her long beautiful black hair and stunning eyes had all captured his heart. She was a kind soul and for once in his lonely life he was in love. Even though they had never spoken a word to each other that is…
Koro fiddled with some gold she found in her pocket.
“Supplies...” She muttered so memorized by the golds gleam.
“All I need is my trusty blades.” Kailiax said holding up his flame and frostbite blades.
“Yeah, and I’ll remember that when your begging me for MY food.” Koro said sticking the shiny gold back in her pocket.
“Fine, we’ll make time to pick up something.” Kailiax sighed.
“Right! I’ll get the supplies you get that map of the trail to the top of the mountain you forgot to grab!” Koro said while running off, but before getting to far away. She turned to say “Just meet here in an hour!” then falling down once again.
“Are you ok?” Kailiax yells after her.
“I’m fine!” Koro says while dusting her robe off and then running off toward a supply shop.
The town had mostly been deserted. Families in fear for their lives. Only a few couple people still stayed in the town with no place else to go.
Koro stood in front of a large shelf filled with all kinds of different shiny objects.
“Bait… Fishing poles… maybe… hmm... I wonder how long it will take us to get to the Dragon’s nest.” Now filling up her arms with shiny packaged items.
“You’re going to...” the owner paused a moment “t-the dragon’s lair?” The owner asked trembling in fear.
“Not just me, my friend to. We’re going to slay that nasty dragon and get all those shiny coins!” Koro said with her eyes glimming. She could just see herself swimming in a lake of gold coins.
“Well, if you’re going to slay that dragon then keep those supplies as a gift.”
“You mean it?” Koro was stunned. She must have had a hundred gold worth of supplies.
“Well a deal instead. If you slay him then you can repay me however you like. I would give you anything to bring business back to my poor shop.”
“I don’t know what to say… It just wouldn’t feel right taking all of this.” Koro rummaged her pockets. “I know! Hold onto this as a promise I’ll come back to repay you.” Koro pulled out a gold shiny rock. The amazing part was that the rock was shaped like a duck!
The owner stared at it. She had never seen something so weird yet wonderful.
“It’s my lucky rock!” Koro said with a huge smile. “Its fool’s gold so it really isn’t worth anything.”
The owner picked it up and placed it on a self behind her next to what looked like a ratty old trophy.
“Don’t sell it now because I’ll be back for it.” Koro looked worried for a moment.
“Even if you died fighting that dragon, I wouldn’t sell it. It’s too cute!”
Koro laughed. She picked up the supplies and said her good byes to the owner and left the shop.
Kailiax on the other hand had not had as easy a time a Koro did. He spent an hour in Mayor Tena’s office. Mayor Tena had gone out to lunch and her secretary was not very bright. She basically stood back the whole time while Kai dug down to the depth of every book and scroll he could find. Then in the last place he looked he found it (on the secretary’s desk the whole time).
“You look exhausted.” Koro stated.
“Looking for that map was an adventure all on its own, why didn’t you remind me to grab it?” Kailiax sighed.
“Didn’t cross my mind… Shall we then?” Koro stumbled forward.
“Yes. I don’t want to waste another minute.” Kailiax started off.
Everything depends on the successes of this journey. Thankfully it wasn’t too long a walk up the mountain to the dragon’s lair.
Kailiax led the way with the map in hand. Koro waddled behind clinging to her staff. Not only was the trail riddled with rocks and twigs for her to trip over but the further they went up the trail the more the trees became bear and more scares.
“It’s like there isn’t anything living out here.” Koro said not paying attention to the huge rock right in front of her. Before bumping into it Kailiax stopped her.
“What?” Koro said.
“Do you hear that?” Kailiax was serious. Listening to wind a small roar could be heard in the distance.
“The dragon?” Koro listened closer.
“There is no way he could have picked our scent from here.” Kailiax said
“The dragon comes to us, it that so bad?” Koro asked Kai.
“We aren’t nearly prepared to fight the dragon now. We’ve been walking for hours and the dragon would seem 10 times harder for us.” Kai was still listening closely to the wind.
“Shouldn’t we hide then!?” Koro began to panic.
“It’s going in the opposite direction. We are safe for now.” Kailiax started walking with more haste.
“What’s the hurry?” Koro yelled after trying to keep up.
“If the dragon is gone then maybe if we make it there now, then we could save the princess and worry about slaying the dragon later!” Kai’s hurry turned into a run. Koro waddled faster behind him almost tripping on everything. Then Kai came to an abrupt stop. Koro slammed right into him and they both fell out of their hidden stop behind some brush.
“Watch where you’re going! If the dragon was here he would have killed us both!” Kai yelled at Koro as she tried to scramble back into a standing position.
“I’m sorry! But you know how clumsy I'am and well it’s your fault you stopped!” Koro and Kai begin arguing over whose fault it was when they heard the flap of wings getting closer.
Jumping back into the bushes Kai and Koro prayed the dragon wouldn’t see them.
“I want to hit you so hard right now… We could have saved her.” Kai said angrily.
“I’ll turn you into a grunny if you keep this up Kai.” Koro threaten
The dragon could be seen above the cave coming in for its landing. It carried a poor cow in its mouth.
“Oh my god! He killed Santa!” Koro exclaimed to Kai.
“It’s just a normal cow Koro.” Kai said looking closer.
The dragon landed and turned toward the place where our young hero’s hid. Then it continued inside the cave.
“We are lucky it was getting food. Or it would have picked up our scent.” Kai said relieved.
All of a sudden they could hear a scream. The princess’s soft voice riddled with terror. Kai jumped up.
“What are you doing Kai?” Koro said tugging his hand.
“We must help her!” Kai yanked his had out of Koro’s.
“But I thought you said that we wouldn’t be able to defeat the dragon in this state.” Koro reminded him.
“I suddenly got a burst of energy.” Kai said walking towards the opening of the cave. Koro followed him. They were in this together and she had to help her poor friend, even though he wasn’t thinking straight and he was just bursting in there and it may end in their demise… friend’s forever right?
The dragon lay in his cave carelessly eating the cow. The princess was telling the dragon a story. She didn’t look terrified at all of the dragon until she stuttered and the dragon growled at her.
Kailiax jumped forward, the dragon moved its long head around turning its gaze right onto him.
“Dragon I’ve come to defeat you and take back what rightfully belongs to this town!” Kai yelled out mostly just trying to impress the princess with his manly sounding voice. Koro hid behind a rock afraid that at any moment the dragon would burn Kai to a crisp. The dragon turned its whole body now facing Kai.
“Prepare to die evil beast!” Kai lunged at the dragon with much strength.
The dragon with not much movement at all swung its tail around hitting Kai into the wall. Taking a deep breath the dragon was about to let out a huge blaze of fiery breath onto Kai. Koro jumped in front of the dragon’s fiery breath holding her staff high into the air and muttering a few words. The dragon’s flame went around them without leaving as much as a singe.
Kai opened his eyes. A beautiful angel stared down at him. Sitting up he peered around him. Was this heaven?
“Kailiax…” the angel began to say before getting cut off.
“Where are we? Did I die?” Kailiax panicked. The angel placed her hand on his face and for a moment he was calmed.
“You are and are not dead.” The angel finished.
“I died?! What about Koro?! Did…!” Kai was pushing himself up to stand but couldn’t find any strength. The angel laughed.
“You think this is funny?! My best friend is down there with a dragon!” Kai screamed.
“I’ve been watching you through out your journey to even before you met with the mayor. I know everything about you Kai. I’ am your guardian Angel Chibimoon. While we are up here, your friend fights with all her strength just to save you. Chibi stared into kai’s eyes.
“I want to help her! I want to save the princess!” Kai pushed himself up. His cloudy heaven started to fade away. The angel smiled at him as his vision started to turn.
“I can help you…” the angel wispered.
Koro stood above him keeping her aura shield up.
“Huff… Huff…” Koro turned toward Kai. “Get up idiot this was your idea! If only I had my lucky rock!” Koro cried. Kai’s eyes opened, he stammered up reaching for his blades. He was feeling no pain, it was like he had never even been hurt. Was this the help his angel spoke of?
The dragon snarled at him.
“I didn’t want to have to do this to you dragon but…” Kai raised his Flame sword and his Frostbite blade up. His body and blades began to glow. Light shot out of the blades toward the sky as the fuse together making Kai’s ultimate weapon, Excalibur.
The dragon took a step back. Koro could see the fear in the dragon’s eyes. She knew now was a good time to hit the dragon. She jumped forward and blasted the dragon with a bit of lightning when the dragon looked toward Koro a piercing feeling of pain hit it. The dragon roared with pain as Kai dug his sword deep into its back. The dragon fell down and Kai slid down his back and with a swing of his sword at the dragons heart, he killed the dragon.
Koro ran over to Kai.
“I thought we were dead for sure…” Koro put her hand on his shoulder.
“I was there for a moment.” Kai climbed over the dragon to help the princess.
The princess stood back terrified holding a baby dragon.
“Are you ok princess?” Kai asked holding out his hand. She looked at him but before being able to take his hand he was pushed out of the way.
“That baby dragon is so cute!” Koro hugged it tightly and the princess giggled.
“Don’t tell me it was the dragons?!” Koro said saddened for the baby for a second before the princess added in.
“Oh no! This is my baby!” The princess pet him as the baby dragon cooed.
“Oh I was scared that we just killed its mommy or something.” Koro hugged the baby dragon while rubbing her face on its.
“His name is Gwee and…” the princess stopped and looked at Kai who was staring at Koro with flaming eyes.
“He he…” Koro sacredly chuckled.
“Kailiax, thank you for saving me and Gwee We couldn’t be anymore grateful.” The princess bowed.
“Hey I helped too!” Koro felt left out of the praise.
“Thank you both! Now can we go home?” the princess took Gwee out of Koro’s hands and walked towards entrance.
A parade was thrown in the Brave hero’s honor, the money had been paid in full and the town had become once again filled with people, but it was all missing something.
Kailiax sighed. He had saved the princess but he hadn’t wooed her heart. His big chances to show off were all foiled by something making him look like an idiot. Kai and Koro had been invited to a ball thrown in their honor for saving the princess by the king himself. Kai stood out on the balcony staring straight up at the stars. He looked over at Koro who had just poured punch down the front of herself. He smiled and thought how impressing a princess was good and all, but having a friend like Koro to watch your back was great. Just then the princess walked up next him and leaned over the balcony looking up to the stars.
“So Kai, when were you planning on telling me how you felt? Were you going to wait until I married someone else?” Kai looked at the princess horrified. She laughed “Koro told me, plus I always noticed you staring at me. I thought you were some kind of pervert but…” She trailed off. Kai glared at Koro! What ever he said a paragraph ago he took back! He was going to kill her!
The princess laughed harder and people even began to stare at them.
“Princess I…” Kai didn’t know what to say to her.
“You don’t have to keep calling me princess, you can just simply call me Valentera or Val.” She smiled
“Val w-will you dance with me at least once?” Kai built up all of his courage.
“I would love to.” This time she took his hand without any interruption and they danced.
