It was late ate night, and the newly mated male slept restlessly in his warm bed. The sheets were tangled around him, and he was curled up slightly, most likely gripping the slightly thinner 2D. His eyelids flickered and twitched as he dreamed, and a scowl was plastered across his maw. A nightmare. One like he hadn't had in a long, long time, before he'd known D. He actually whimpered and started to toss and turn. Words came from his mouth, but they were too soft and grumbled to be coherent.

D was a light sleeper when he wasn't knocked out on his pills so when Murdoc's nightmare woke the pale numa, D blinked a few times and then reached a paw to caress Doc's face. D murmured softly, shushing and comforting words and if that didn't work to calm the bad dream, he'd gently shake the other. D sat up a bit, leaning against the cold wall and looking down at the narrow bed, "Murdoc. Murdoc? Hey?" His voice wasn't loud but it seemed swallowed to him, the shadows fell heavy across the room as the dark curtains let in little light.

Doc took awhile to wake still in a deep troubled sleep. He groaned and started to squirm harder, grimacing like he was almost in pain. His mumbling was louder now, easier to hear. "Dad.. no... no... ..please..." Were a few that could be heard, if D shook him he'd just flail more, then yell, flailing and rolling until he tumbled off the side of the bed. The jolt woke him up quickly and he laid on the floor panting, his eyes wide and wild, clutching to the floor.

D only shook Murdoc to wake him because he didn't know what else to do, but when the dark one ended up on the floor D was off the bed in the next instant and beside him on the floor, the sheets fluttered to stillness. "Hey? You awake, now? Bad dream?" D tentatively brought a paw up and rested it on Murdoc, petting his arm in what he thought a comforting manner.

To anyone else it would have been comforting, but Doc was too shaken and shocked to want to be touched, especially after... that dream. He shoved D away and scrambled to his feet, still panting slowly. He moved to the window and leaned against it, the cold glass pressing against his back. It jolted him more away and calmed him slightly. Slowly he breathed slower, his mind racing back to reality...
"...Y-yea... Yea, bad dream." He cleared his throat and forced the weakness out of his voice, his paw moving to rub his temples. "Just... go back to bed. I'm fine." Even though he obviously wasn't. His paw trembled as it gripped the window sill.

D sat back on his rump and blinked at his mate who panted and leaned on the cold window sill. D's earfins drooped and he stood, moving to pick up the sheets and then sit at the edge of the bed but he didn't make to lay back down. "I'm all awake now though..." His voice was low and would stay soft.
Even in the dark and even with his eyes D could see that Murdoc was trembling, he opened his mouth to say more, but he was quite unsure. "I's jus' a dream, yea..." His eyes, if they could be seen were full of honest innocence, "You wanna talk 'bout it?"

Murdoc rubbed his temples for a moment, shaking his head. "No... I'm fine. Really." He didn't pressure him to go back to bed, but he did turn away from him, resting his forehead against the dew covered glass. His claws sunk into the wood of the sill and he sighed. There was quiet for a few moments, then he cleared his throat and spoke. "D... do you... have parents?"

D nodded his head, quietly shifted and spread the sheets out, he felt that something was clearly bothering Doc, but if he was going to insist he was fine... D turned his head and blinked, studying Murdoc from behind while trying to remember. With his headaches and the pills he took and his already poor memory they'd just about faded completely, but at last he nodded again and answered. "Er, yea, I hav'n't seen them in ages, bot they're, ah, normal folk. I get me clumsiness from me mum and me da, well I guess 'e's quiet, he likes games and tinkering with stuff..." D rambled for a bit and then trailed off his earfins going red after realizing that, maybe Murdoc wanted to talk after all.

He didn't tell him to shut up, be quiet, or anything cold. He just rubbed his temples and listened, too weary to argue. When D seemed to be done, he paused a moment, then spoke, his voice tired. "I have a father." He cleared his throat and turned around, resting the back of his head against the glass. "Well... Kind of."

D blinked, his eyes adjusting better to the dim lit room now after he'd had them open for a time. "Kind of?" His usually whining voice was just soft now, it held a mite of confusing, he knew some numa didn't have parents, some did, and some just didn't know them well for one reason or another but 'kind of'? D was sitting again, but he leaned forward on the bed, quiet now and listening.

"He wasn't my real dad. He just took me in." He stared down at his paw for a moment, then scowled and gripped it into a fist, closing his eyes. "And I still bloody ended up just like him." He sighed and moved back to the bed, sitting on the edge, not close to D though. "I hated him, the ******** p***k, but look at me now." He stared at the floor, eyes half lidded, looking cold. Mentally and physically. "I don't know how you keep from hating me."

Shifting and moving closer, D snatched up the sheet and draped it over Murdoc's shoulders, unless he moved or otherwise disapproved of the action D leaned his head against Doc's back, not pushing with his full weight, one paw coming hesitantly up to touch his shoulder. "I don't know, wot he done. Wot make you question it so much." Either way, the words were spoken with a clear tone and he would be silent after willing to listen when there was more to be said.

Doc flinched slightly at the touch, and scowled deeper, but didn't make him go away. After a moment he relaxed against him, even leaned back slightly. His voice was bitter and gritty when he next spoke, which was after a few moments of silence.
"What he done? Imagine me, but almost three times as worse, and meaner. You might have a shadow of an idea of what he was." He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, one paw rubbing his temples again. "Coffee, he was. Someone sent me to live with him after my mum died. My real mum. No one really knew how bad he was, the type to seem charming around girls, ya know? I guess they were havin' a fling or somethin' at the time..." Another pause, and he looked slightly sick. "Guess I learned alot of things from him."

D rested lightly, just trying his best to comfort Murdoc with his presence, when he relaxed D smiled just a little but the smile was gone from his face when Doc spoke next.
D had to sit back when Doc leaned or risk falling, he was trying to imagine a 'worse' Murdoc, the meaner part was enough to widen his eyes, but he was shushed by the explanations. D knew Coffee to have the reputation of just being all around darker, harder, and meaner than regular Numa, but to send a pup off, who'd just lost him Mum, his mum that was having a fling with this Coffee.. "He was awful to you then. Is tha' wot the dream wos?"

Murdoc sighed and closed his eyes. "Yea. He was. I wasn't born like this you know. I was healthier lookin' and all. Not that I'm not sexy as ********... But back then..." His paw moved over the bridge of his nose slowly. "Broken, I don't remember how many times. And candies aren't meant to just eat coffee and things. It's not healthy for 'em. Maybe that's why I'm not sweet, eh?" He glanced over his shoulder and smirked toothily at him, his sickly yellow eyes half lidded. The expression was amused, but bitter.
