I love the 1920s. I found a post here a while ago where someone thought that the 20s could be a fun time for steampunk as well, and someone, (I think it was me) suggested the term "Jazzpunk." That was what I thought of when I saw this photo: Especially the lass with the glasses! I was at a thrift store today and I realized how easy it would be to do a 20s based style like this. uh. I actually don't know the reason for this post besides sharing this photo. sweatdrop so, anyone seen anything remotely Jazzpunk?

Haven't SEEN much that would describe our theoretical Jazzpunk, as I've never heard it thought of anywhere but here in our lovely guild. I believe we've created a genre! Huzzah for us! But in any manner, my imagination certainly has seen plenty. We'll start simple. The ambiance of the times developed from gas streetlights and music flowing around. I've always loved that picture. A dark street lit by gas streetlights with jazz flowing in from buildings along the way. Just so...pretty.... 3nodding and on a less romaticized view, we always have the World Wars. The inventions our imaginations could throw together for such things. The tank could end up pouring steam out as its cannon fires at a zeplin above dropping styrofoam/gas napalm down on soldiers. (would be smart if they actually DID that at the war...)

Hmm...perhaps we could turn this into a project for the musically-inclined among us?

Why, I do believe that we have created a genre! biggrin
Aaaaa, the 20s have so much room for awesomeifying. You've got cinema by now and I could see this whole thing with classic silent-film era Hollywood and zoot-suited, fedora-wearing gangsters and WOW THIS HAS SO MUCH UNTAPPED POTENTIAL FOR NIFTINESS. eek

This topic gave me the idea to do a 1920s Steam role-playing game. And then, just for fun, I could do the 1930s expansion. Heck, The 1940s would make a fantastic steam decade- it's not like World War II hasn't been hit up by the Steam community before.

Heck, anything before the 70s is fair game. And even then... STEAM-HIPPIES!
Steam instruments and World Wars are probably the two things with the most, as Soda so aptly put it, potential for niftyness.

Steam Hippies: That smoke isn't steam!
Also: The old microphones (see pictures above with the man singing) I've always loved the look of. They just make a picture so ambiently awesome
In my head, when I think of a Jazzpunk game, the idea of a game that is part resident evil part mechwarrior pops in my head O.o
as in part resident evil I mean the atmosphere in it, the mansions, the odd camera angles, etc

Kaiserhuff Seriously, somebody find me some Steam Hippies. o_o I'm totally tempted to draw a Steam Hippie! OMG! I COULD TOTALLY DO AN AVATAR OF THAT! All I need is a cig, a Grombie skin, and some long hair. *goes to TekTek for an example* "Whoa... dude, did that always do that?"
