August 18, 2005- The village thread was opened!

The Begining...
After much ordeal, I figured that there were most definitely properties of water inside of the Hououza feathers. However, I also concluded that I would not be able to know until they evolved.

I wiped my forehead, not from heat, but mere frustration and exhaustion. I was hunched over the large metal lab table, examining the feathers. Soon... they will have homes. The thought brought a smile to my face; the Hououza's will have a home... I had already placed an add out to those who were interested.

I walked in the front door of my apartment and yawned. What a busy day! It only took a day, and people had already started calling for the beautiful feathers. Most of them found a home quickly. It warmed my heart.

I told them to keep contact with me, however, because I wished to know of the strange new properties of water these feathers witheld. I had just come back from dropping off the last feather and I walked over to my counter, setting down my car keys. I went to the fridge and opened it, preparing to make myself a late dinner. I grabbed some bread, cheese, mayo, and anything else I wished to throw on for a sandwich. I turned around to set them on the counter to see a man standing on the other side. I screamed and dropped everything.

"HOW DID YOU GET IN HERE?! WHO ARE YOU!? WHAT DO YOU WANT!?" I was so frightened I almost forgot how to move. I inched over to where the phone was to see that a man was already there, he leaned against the counter, holding the ripped phone cord in his hand. He smiled and walked up to me.

"Where are the feathers?"
"What?" I blinked in astonishment; these men weren't here for me... they were here for the Hououza's...
"You know what I mean; Where are the feathers?" He looked annoyed already, he stepped closer, "If you lie, you'll not live to see the morning."

What a cliche line! I chuckled at that, but that was a mistake. The man lunged at me and pinned me to my pantry door by my neck. He strangled me, not to suffocate, but to stun and hold still, "LeT go" was all I could manage to say.

"Tell me where the feathers are!" His said urgently, he was angry... I could see it in his eyes... It sparked real fear in me.
"I... don't... know..." I clawed at his hand, trying to get him off of me. Then, I realize I could just knee him in... well, the family jewels. Why didn't that occur to me before? So, I did. I kneed him pretty hard too cause he doubled over fast enough for his chin to get smacked by my still flying leg. He then collapsed to the ground. This is where his buddy came in. He rushed around the counter and picked up the man, glaring at me all the while.

Then, he spoke to me in such a peculiar way... it fascinated me. Then, my eyes went wide in horror... He had phoenix wings... He was a Hououza. My mouth dropped, and from then on, I was too shocked to move. The younger man said in a hiss to me as he picked up the man on the floor, "You will tell us, maybe not directly. But you will tell us."

With that, they left. I started shaking hysterically and collapsed to the ground. I couldn't help but start to sob right then and there. That man... he was a Hououza? What did they want with those feathers? Why are they so important?

I guess some things will never be discovered by research alone.

Apathetic, tracing the perimeter of a reflecting-pool's edges with his footsteps, proceeded slowly along the broken white marble-stones surrounding it, eyes taking in the scenery. Vicus'ab Lacus was peaceful, that was for certain; the lush foliage, the cool breezes, the sunlight glinting off the deep-green water and the broken marble column... All seemed to indicate a tranquil setting, and even Apathetic had to admit that it was peaceful.

It was empty, though. Perhaps still to be expected, but...

With a small, stifled sigh, Apathetic lifted his right wrist, where Proteus' feather was secured with a beaded-leather strap. Watching the feather twist in the breeze, seeming to tug itself towards the lotus-covered pool, Apathetic wondered if there would be people here by the time Proteus emerged-- Someone for the young Hououza to associate with. He would care for the resulting child all he could, but he knew that any child needs friends.

The brush rustled nearby, and the air filled with the complaining of Ryo. "Riddle, did we have to come here?" he said, wishing he was home right now. "You have never lived unless you've been someplace you cannot go by vehicle," Riddle responded. A smaller Hououza walked through looking angry, annoyed by Ryo's complaints. Riddle sighed, thinking The joys of parenthood. Why did I ever decide to take them in? It was pretty peaceful with just a few, but then some strange forced compelled me to get Ryo.

Hearing voices from nearby, Apathetic paused for a moment; though it hardly seemed what he'd term "happy," one at least seemed fairly young, and the voices probably weren't hostile. Probably.

Having determined the direction from which they were coming, Apathetic turned towards the source of the words, where he saw that the brush was, indeed, rustling slightly, presumably from the speakers' presences; the feather at his wrist twisted slightly in the breeze as he tilted his head in interest, waiting to see if the voices' owners would be emerging soon.

Riddle, Ryo, and Natu emerged from the brush in front of Apathetic. "Hrm...someone beat us here," Riddle mumbled.

Just barely catching the other man's words, Apathetic arched an eyebrow in inquiry: "I wasn't aware that it was a race," he replied, "though I knew that I was the only person here. 'Was' being the operative word, I suppose.

"Are you three residents of this place?"

Riddle shook his head. "It wasn't, I just time myself on how long it takes to get somewhere," he said. "No, we live quite a ways away. Have you ever been to Riverview City?"

Apathetic considered for a moment or two, then finally shook his head; "I can't say that I have," he said, "but then, I'm fairly new to this area, and haven't had as much time to get my bearings as I would have liked.

"I, by the way, am Apathetic Nonchalance; just Apathy would be fine, of course. And this," he went on, lifting his wrist and nodding at the feather there secured, "is Proteus. Of course, he doesn't say much yet, but for all I know... that may change."

"I'm Riddle. Hi Apathy," he said. "Wait...he looks a little like..." He withdrew a blue sparkling feather from his shirt. "This is Takato. He is the reason why I came here. That's Ryo," he pointed to the Evergreen Hououza wearing a blue shirt and black pants, "and that's Natu." He pointed to the Navy Blue Haired Hououza wearing a red shirt and blue pants. Natu also was carrying around a chalkboard.

"Well, I did just adopt Proteus; he comes from this lake, so I understand, or at least that's where the feather was found, so I'd guess that it's the same for Takato?

"At any rate, it's a pleasure to meet you, Riddle; you two as well, Ryo, Natu," and he nodded at each of the three in turn.

"So I'm told," Riddle responded. Ryo said hi, then walked off to view the lake. Natu took out a piece of chalk and wrote Hi on his chalkboard. "Don't mind him, he's mute."

"I'm sorry to hear that," responded Apathetic sincerely; adopting, however, the idea that 'if it doesn't bother them, it doesn't bother me,' he then paused, looked around, and said, "But, on a brief tangent... Does anyone live around here? I haven't seen anyone, myself; if not, I was thinking of fixing up that place..." And he gestured to the white-marble building opposite the pool, "... for a living-area. For myself, then myself and Proteus, after his change, then for him after he reaches adulthood. I just wasn't quite sure if anyone else had prior claim to any part of this area."

"I have no attachment to this place, I just came here for a good trip. Though I do plan to stay for a few days, do you mind a little help?" Riddle asked.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:08 pm

"Not at all," replied Apathetic; "in fact, I'd appreciate it; it seems that part of the building's roof caved in, so the rubble has to be moved before anything else can be done. I was just taking a short break before anything else."

Glancing around again, he finished, "I suppose it would be easier if I just built an entirely new construct, but the building's foundations are still solid, and I rather like the 'crumbling majesty'-style architecture. Besides, I like this little courtyard here, as well; it'd be a shame not to incorporate it somehow."

"Okay, just let me set up a shelter for myself, and now you, so you have someplace to stay while we work, then I'll come back and help out," Riddle said, walking away with Natu.

It took him a matter of minutes to put up two shelters. He made sure Apathy wasn't looking, then summoned two tents and his tools and returned to Apathy. Ryo, by this time, had come back.
