Right, so just wondering if there were any in here from Utah, most likely there are, but odds are off for specifics and whatnot.
As for the title of my new topic. Whenever someone called me a band geek, i'd reply with " Band. Nerd. It's what my species prefer to be called. "
My dear choir friend enjoys arguing with me I think, anyways, he was making fun of how I said it was a species. He then did me the favor of coming up with said species scientific name. >.<

Not from Utah (sorry), but why do you prefer band nerd to band geek?
I prefer band geek.
I mean, a nerd implies that one has a respectable amount of knowledge on a variety of subjects, whereas "geek" implies that one has a ridiculous amount of knowledge on (or a crazy obsession with) a single subject, i.e., band.
Besides. Geek just sounds sexier than nerd, I think. And everyone knows instrumentalists are sexier than your average loser. heart

Seeing as you brought up definitions,
A geek is technically a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
A nerd is an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit
Technically band isn't nonsocial anymore, as it used to be due to the cliques and conformity of the past, but the second definition fits better.
I prefer band nerd to band geek because it's been called band geek for ages. I like originality. Being in band makes you sexier than your average loser, it has nothing to do with the second word of the phrase. >.<

I love both because they just call me that because they are jealous of my mad double reed skills. It's a compliment, really, saying "You have an incredible passion and knowlege of something that I will never understand. Nor will I ever have a passion such as yours." ^^
