I just wanted to know what you guys thought Cloud's childhood 'crush' on Tifa. I'm sure I can assume what you all would say but I'm gonna ask anyway. xD
Basically we all know that Cloud had a crush on Tifa as a kid, but to what extent and was the crush really based on feelings of love or was it about being accepted and noticed? Another thing is that I'm sure you all believe that Cloud was really in love with Tifa as a but the Crisis Core Ultimania refers to Tifa as the one Cloud "dimly fell in love with" when they were children. What are your thoughts on that?

 Wow, this is a good topic, and it came from you, Pink! How nice! I don't mean that you don't post good topics, but... I mean, since this is about Cloti it's surprising. rofl
Well, I think that Cloud really did like her. I don't know how they can refer to it as "dimly", besides due to the fact that he didn't really know her that well. Because in CC, when Cloud is with Zack after the reactor incident, Zack keeps asking Cloud about Tifa, and Cloud just keeps looking sad and depressed. It seems like Cloud feels like he failed or something. D: And, Zack tells Cloud not to worry, because Tifa is alright. :]
As far as VII goes--- well, it really is deabateable. Cloud obviously wanted to impress her for a reason. And that was because he liked her, hence the crush. Sure, he wanted to be accepted and noticed, but not just by every-one. Tifa is the one he wanted to be noticed by the most. He wanted to be accepted, so that even Tifa would have to notice him. Now, to me that seems like he desires her attention, not because he wants to be accepted. Being accepted was just an obstacle he felt he needed to over-come on the way to getting Tifa to like him. That's what I think, anyway. Tifa came to him that night, and they made a promise, and despite what most Cleris fans think, I found it rather deep and magical, and from there on, it only shows that Cloud and Tifa are dedicated to one another. Tifa suddenly started missing Cloud... wondering how he was doing. Cloud didn't want to be a failure in Tifa's eyes... he wanted to keep her promise. If he didn't care about her, he wouldn't have bothered trying so hard to make HER proud.
Of course, Tifa doesn't expect so much of Cloud like he seems to think. Good thing the lifestream scene clears up their "shady" past. :]
And, that's how I feel. :]

I'm not sure how to take "dimly in love with" but to me it sounds like Square is still trying to be uber careful about the whole "love" thing. rofl Also, I find it odd that they would say "dimly in love" rather than "childhood crush." confused "Dimly in love" sounds contradictory don't you think? If you're "dimly" in love, would that mean faintly in love or loving distantly? And if you're faintly in love, does it mean that you're really not in love? It doesn't make sense, but maybe I'm overanalyzing it a bit. neutral Whatever. Still....for them to include the word "love"....I think it's quite bold. xd Oh well....it's how you interpret it. I still think Crisis Core is very Cloti. biggrin

And, Square seems to be very, very contradictory. :/ They keep coming out with new things like COT, Maiden, Ultimania tons of other things that twist/add on/take away from the original story. They've only succeeded in making things more complicated, when it comes to the issues of Cloud's love interest. x'D

and
"You are the proof that I existed"
Influenced him there. ;]
There is no Cleris in CC. It's absurd to think so.

Anyways feel free to discuss! = ] Well of course Clouds love (if any) was "dim" since he was only a child. In my opinion, fourteen year old children can't even grasp the true meaning of love. I do however believe that Cloud felt more then just a childhood crush, hence "dimly in love" It was pretty hard for Tifa to cope with Cloud, especially since he forgot his child hood due to the Jinova cells and Hojo's experimentations. Tifa even had to remind him of their promise and he had completely forgotten about his best friend Zack. As adults, the more time he spent with Tifa regaining his memories, the closer they seemed to become. I think Cloud always loved Tifa at some level but because of his affliction though out most of the game' it was kept in his subconscious. It was after the life stream event where all of Clouds feelings suddenly seemed to come to the surfs.

There is no Cleris in CC. It's absurd to think so. That's a good point and it makes sense too! biggrin And the fact that Zack asked Cloud to take care of Aeris might've pushed him to accept the bodyguard job too. An unconscious nudge.

Actually, the CC ultimania uses a Kanji that can be read as dimly, but can also, and more contextually appropriately, be read as hidden or secret. He secretly fell in love with Tifa.
Also, in regards to the "Love that can never be", I wouldn't trust marketing as far as I could throw it. Especially not American marketing.

I think Cloud's initial crush on Tifa is one of those things that made me always see the couple. That his entire life, trying to be more than he ever could be, was to impress her. And that what he did for Aeris was for Zack. I though I hate using outside-game canon as proof, CC does kind of prove the concept that Cloud's affections for Aeris have to do with his promises to Zack that somewhere down the road get corrupted into his mental illness.

That's my guess <3 Cloud never looked at her in a lustful manner. He had always admired her for her strength and values her support a lot. Of course, as a man he is entitled to scan her a bit here and there but he has always been in control of his feelings, faintly revealing them as he is weak-hearted. As a child even, he admired Tifa from afar. Sure she was a little pretty girl back then, but she had an upbeat attitude that drew the local boys to her, including Cloud.

That's my guess <3 Cloud never looked at her in a lustful manner. He had always admired her for her strength and values her support a lot. Of course, as a man he is entitled to scan her a bit here and there but he has always been in control of his feelings, faintly revealing them as he is weak-hearted. Which is not to say it's only lust, not in the slightest, just that yes, lust is involved.
