That sucks, I can't be rushed when reading books....it stresses me. Hence why I have tons that are unfinished or worse! Never been opened....what a horrable fate....not that borders cares- (sorry random rant) good luck, you better get to reading! I suggest Dante's Inferno (if you haven't read it already).

Oh, wow! I remember that! In the high school I went to, you did not HAVE to read 25 books to graduate, but if you did, at the end of the year there was a small gathering in the library during morning classes where you got to eat bagels and relax. Unfortunately, many people would just write down 25 books to get out of class, but there was a small number of people who did the reading.
Happy reading! (also, I'd be kind of interested in knowing the 25 you chose to read at some point, if you don't mind).

I never had anything like that, wouldn't have mattered though. I read that many on my own over the course of a semester.
THough in eight grade I had to keep a reading record and fill certian parameters the district needed filled, just a biography by the end of the first quarter and a non-biography non-fiction by the end of the third, got those done in the first two weeks. My teacher gave us sheets to record what we read (four to be exact, one for each quarter) on the first day of school, I had all of mine filled out by the end of the first quarter, with the parameters covered.

Never heard of such a thing.... Although I probably could have given 25 off the top of my head before I even got that stupid requirement. Might I suggest the Everworld series? the books are really short quick reads and there are at least a dosen of them. You could read the series of unfortunate events after that and have your whole readings worth done right there! ^_^
Although at my school we have this cheezy little system where you are given a list of books ( a rather long list if I do say so myself) and you pick books from that, each book is worth a certain ammount of points baced on difficulty. You take a test to prove you read it, if you pass the test you get the points. Once you reach 100, you don't have to read anymore for the semester. So Lets add this up.... each semester is 100 points and there are 4 years. So thats 8 semesters....by the time I graduate I will have to read 800 points of reading.... gonk LAME!

I read more than that, anyway... then again, I've got nothing better to do. I need to buy some new video games...
I haven't heard of a requirement to read to pass HS. I've heard of bonuses for winning in reading contests, but not of having to read to pass. It would help the educational system...

XxShadow_In_The_FirexX Thank you for all the help, but my english teacher is only counting the first book of a series. ((ex. I read all 7 of Harry Potter. She's only counting the 1st book.)) DUDE! Thats cheeting! What about the Tammora Pierce segments?.... Thats so hard to explain..... Character one gets a series, followed by a series for character two, Character two is usualy related ( EX, same teachings, friend, relitive) To character one. How would she count those? I would reccomend the auther that did Blood and Chocolate, but I personaly didn't like the Silver Kiss. However many other people liked it, so feal free to try that. She hasn't written any series to my knowlage so you could read all her work and count those. Also quick reads.

That concept of having to read 25 books before you graduate but only counting the first book? That's retarded! I mean, there are some very short series out there, but I know of one series that has twenty books and counting...and I've read the entire series twice. That's completely unfair!
And I agree, how would she count Tamora Pierce's books? I mean, there are different series, but they are all connected in one big series. confused

Lucky. I wish I had to do that to graduate from high school. If that was the case, I'd graduate with honors and a distinction! Of course, I'm assuming it's to encourage reading for those who don't read anything more than the one page articles in magazines. For booklovers, like ourselves, it's a small dream come true.
