Several falls and wipe-outs later, Canti found himself on his butt in the snow. His adoptive father and little brother were nearby, constructing a small snowman. He had been instructed to take a seat and rest for a while before he went out again, if he ever went out again. Of course, he had obeyed... but he didn't take his ice skates off. He knew that his Lu had paid to borrow them for him for the day, to try and teach him something new as an extension of his Christmas. Any money was too much to him, for he had none, and so he was rather determined to make the most of the time he had with them. Not only that- he was just starting to get the hang of this skating thing!
Glossy, black eyes slid to watch the blue-skinned toddler patting down the base of his snowman, more bundled up than even Canti and barely visible beneath his rainbow quilt. He could see those little azure fingers, though, smoothing methodically at the lumps in the snow. It'd be ruined, thought the ant, once the next part of the body was added. Dyre would have to do it all over again. He didn't seem to mind at all, though. Lucas, in the meantime, was busily gathering up the snow for the mid-section and just generally doing the manual labor of the task. Every now and then Canti saw him glance over his way, making sure he hadn't snuck off. As of late, it didn't seem to be an action that the insect was incapable of.
"I am rested now, Lu. May I be going?" He would ask patiently as the photographer began to heft his latest work up upon the previous. There was a resulting squall from Dyre as the weight put on enough pressure to crack open his work.
"Yes, Canti, yes," The brunette responded distractedly, rounding around to console the smaller boy with coos of apologies. "BE. CAREFUL!"
But the ant was gone, scrabbling through the snow towards the frozen lake that was featured close enough to their home to have walked. He'd be all by himself now! He would slow as he began to close in on the lakeside again, only the slow swaying of his antennae indicating some sort of excitement. His eyes scoured the surface, taking in everything. Everyone on the ice seemed to be having fun!

Almost there! Alan had promised... and... had to fufill his promise, though by the time they made it out to the site he found himself in more trouble than he'd expected. Getting a wheelchair through the show was a real task indeed... And obviously he couldn't go with his little girl onto the ice, but he could still get her there!
Or moreso, try. It took the both of them; him trying to turn the wheels and the little girl pushing eagerly at the back of his chair to haul them through the layer of snow before he finally, panting and out of breath, gave her the okay to stop. "This is good Talia..." At that, he smiled as she came around the edge of his chair, looking at him with bright eyes. Despite a pile of work back in the office, one day off couldn't hurt... and it was nice to have someone to share the season with. "Up you go~" he mumbled, as he pulled her out of the snow and into his dead lap, letting her reach over the side to get out the skates.
It only took a few minutes, little gloved hands and tentacles yanking off one set of shoes to put on the appropriate ones, before she was ready and eager to try the whole iceskating thing. She looked over her shoulder at her father, pointing eagerly at the group of people on the frozen surface, bouncing alittle. "With words?" he encouraged, forcing her to use that mouth of hers "I can go please?" she dragged the sylables alittle, but got it right for the most part. "Yes, you can go." he responded, helping her from his chair and watching her hurry towards the ice. "Careful! Remember what I told you!" he called after, then leaned back to watch, letting that uneasy feeling settle in the pit of his stomach... he really couldn't go help if she got hurt.
But, nothing seemed to deter the little girl now, as she got to the edge and abruptly stopped, pausing to look at it... then... all of a sudden get on it without much more hesitation. The surface was much slipprier than anticipated, the whole thing new and forign and--oof! Down she went, right onto her bum with a squeak, causing her father to flinch.

Carefully, he had stepped onto the ice, sliding along for a moment before he turned his foot and managed to slow. He was a bit shaky, but that was alright. Soon enough, his body began to remember how this sort of thing worked and allowed him to slowly begin to glide along. With only a tentative, minor shift, he was turning to one side. Canti skated along before doing an experimental circle, opening his arms to keep him balanced every now and then when he thought he needed it. He was staying close to the shore now, where he could throw himself for a softer landing if he needed it. He didn't seem to be having a problem with that anymore, though, stable even as he picked up one leg after pushing off. He beamed quietly to himself- this was fun when it wasn't hurting!
About to head off to the large group to see if he couldn't get some socializing in, the ant's attention was drawn by the brief twitch of his sensitive antennae, which had picked up a minute sound and probably a vibration nearby. He turned his head, his eyes picking up the form of a little blue-haired girl who had apparently just fallen on the ice. The boy frowned sympathetically, remembering how that was. It hurt! And she was all alone, or at least seemed to be... Feeling obligated, Canti skated over to her, calling for her.
"Hullo!" His voice softened as he got closer to her, the spurr at the back of his skate digging into the ice when he was only a few feet from her. "Are you being alright, miss?" He implored, leaning over a little so his lower arms placed themselves upon his knees. His antennae reached farther than that, hovering over the air above her head, twitching uncertainly in a sort of examining motion. Her hair was... interesting, to say the least. It was the only thing he could see of her besides her skates.

Could he get to her? No. Was he trying? Yeah. But without the backup pushing, Alan was stuck tight in his spot in the snow. Nothing more he could do but watch as another boy (one of the experimentes he beleived) would come over to help her. It was a sigh of releif that left him there, leaning back but still watching to make sure it was handled.
Talia looked up, her butt now as Cold as ever... though she was a padded child, and it hadn't hurt as much as she thought it would, but it still hurt! Not enough hurt to distract her from the wavering antena though, drawing wide curious eyes up. She might have seen him before, might not, she saw alot of kids while working with her dad, it was hard to remember them all. She nodded in responce, giving a smile, and trying to wobble to a stand before her bum froze to the ice. She gave a brush off, arms wavering for balance, as well as the set of tentacles dangling from her head.
Oh right, mannors "Thank you." she gave one vocal reply, following with a proud grin, and rub at her vaugly sniffly nose. She'd remembered! Hooray.

Seeing the other girl grin made the ant boy smile in return. She was alright, and that was good. He straightened as she did and withdrew his antennae so they were once more simply hovering over his head. To the thanks he would nod humbly.
"Is this your first time on the ice, yes?" Canti asked knowingly, as if he hadn't taken a spill or two himself in the recent past. He observed her wiping her nose and resisted the urge to reach for the tissue he knew were in his back pocket. With this cold Dyre, his brother, had gotten a little sniffly too and Canti found for the first time just how squicked he was by snot. However, he forced his mind past it, focusing instead on the girl's little grin.
