Little red and yellow wings buzzed about, as the tiny flutter made her way across the grassy field. The flowers of summer had long since died, leaving her now with the horribly ugly crunchy leaves from the dormant trees, and a blanket of wet, cold snow on the ground.
She hated winter. Hated, hated HATED. What was so much fun about getting damp and chilled to the bone? She didn't know. She didn't WANT to know. Winter was for the crazies, Zahara determined to herself, her wings still fluttering higher and higher, keeping her dusty red hooves from getting ANYWHERE near that filthy wet white stuff. She'd be glad when the season was good and over with!

Paul Revere was humming to himself as he nosed through the snow. Snow always put him in a good mood. It was so bright and cheerful - just like he was! Although, he admitted happily enough, he was the brightest spot on the landscape!
Well, except for a red and yellow flutter flying here and there. The stallion eyed the other Soquili with interest and amusement. So he wasn't the brightest thing around here after all! Well, well, well, this could get fun!
"Well, hello there!" he called out cheerily.

Her wings nearly halted in midair, sending her briefly plummeting towards the ground due to the startling loud voice that seemed to have come out of nowhere. She must have preoccupied her attention towards the snow and missed this orange giant in the process!
Silently scolding herself, she quickly forced her wings to flap harder, bringing herself higher once again. Turning, her green eyes narrowed and glared at the bright orange and yellow monster that had nearly KILLED her with his booming voice alone!
"WELL THAT JUST WASN'T POLITE!" she reprimanded, her voice shrill. The tiny being drew closer towards the large giant, and she planted her hooves firmly on the tip of his muzzle, continuing her glare. "You could have KILLED me, you horrible thing you!!!"

The stallion was bemused to see that the flutter was so very tiny, especially when she landed on his nose. He'd thought she was merely far off, not so tiny, that's why he'd been so loud.
"Well little lady, you certainly are a little lady!" Paul Revere replied, surprised and amused. She was sooo tiny and sooo indignant...he just could help it. He snickered.

Her jaw dropped in an exaggerated manner, and her wings twitched angrily as the ground beneath her began to shake from the stallion's laughter.
"I may be a lady, you orange monster you, but you are FAR from a gentleman!" She snapped, stomping one hoof against the bridge of his nose. "And WHY would you laugh at me?! There's absolutely positively NOTHING funny about a beautiful flutter like myself!"

The snickering fit took a while, but Paul Revere finally got it under control so that he could respond to the flutter mare once more.
"Well little lady, I never claimed to be a gentleman. And little lady, there is everythin' funny about a beautiful li'l flutter like yourself." He got the words out and then started laughing full-out, instead of just snickering. This bright little flutter was certainly bringing a bit of color into his day!

His laughter sent her flying off of his nose, but she was quick to zip her way back over towards the top of his head, and landed smack dab in between his two perked up ears. "Well, I NEVER!" she gasped, highly offended by his obnoxious behavior. "I demand to know what's so funny about being a lady... I want to know THIS INSTANT."
To emphasize her words, she stomped her hoof on top of his head once more, only this time the blow being softened by his short blonde mane.
The nerve of some stallions these days!

It took another chunk of time for Paul Revere to calm down enough to talk. He tilted his head as he spoke, trying to see the flutter, even though he knew it wasn't actually possible with her on his head.
"Well little lady, you yourself are funny! I mean, just listen to yerself!"
And he was off again, laughing even harder than ever, tossing his head this way and that. Gods above, this little flutter gal was hilarious, and she was too focused on how she saw herself to see it!

"Listen to myself?" she echoed, her head tilting quizzically as she thought about what he suggested. "Why in the world would I listen to myself. I already know what I'm going to say, silly Orange Monster!"
She stuck out her tongue at him, though she already knew from his straining that he wasn't able to twist his head around far enough to see her. Oh well, that was HIS problem.
Her green eyes rolled as he started up with the laughter, and she tromped over to the nearest ear and attempted to bite down hard into it.

This fit of laughter took a while to subside, though Paul Revere was still prone to snickering every few moments even so. Unfortunately for Zahara, he'd been out in the cold so long, that his ear was quite numb, and her didn't feel the bite, just that something was there.
"Well little lady, tha name's Paul Revere, and like I said, if ya wanna know why yer so funny, ya gotta listen to yerself!" he replied, breaking out into laughter once more. "But," he tried to continue speaking around the fit, "but - heehee- ya gotta listen - haha - like somebody else would - hoohoohear ya!"
That being said, the stallion proceeded to give in to a full-fledged laughing fit, down on his knees, rolling in the snow and everything else.

She leaped off his head with a screech as he flopped his large orange body onto the ground, and she shook her head in dismay of it all. "Well, Orange Paul, I'm not going to waste my day just listening to myself, when I could be having a perfectly sensible conversation with others around me! And my name is Zahara, although I doubt you'll stop that rude laughing to even hear it!"
Frowning, she kept her distance from where he knelt, unsure of why this stallion was so different than the other giants she'd met before. Most all of the giants had been rude in one way or another, but this one was going out of his way to be rude with all that laughter! Seriously, she wanted to know how her speech could be so funny!!
"Can't you do anything but laugh, Paul Revere?" she snorted, her expression curved down into a frown.

The stallion was finally able to sober himself up a bit, but the eye he watched Zahara with was twinkling with suprressed laughter. "Oh, aye li'l Zahara, I could, but it wouldn't be nearly as funny," he told the flutter. He might've meant it seriously, but the effect was likely spoiled for the mare by the amusement in his voice.
"And I neva heard that laughing was rude afore," he commented lightly. "Jest goes to show ya never know everythin' - right li'l lady?"

He was still grinning, but at least he wasn't laughing anymore.
Letting out another snort, she attempted to reland herself upon the stallion's head, due to the fact talking and flying at the same time was a terribly hard thing to do at the same time.
"No... we don't know everything, I guess." she conceded, pressed her delicate butterfly wings to her sides. "But there's a difference between laughing AT someone and laughing WITH someone, you silly orange thing!"

"Well a 'course there's a difference," Paul Revere wholeheartedly and cheerfully agreed. He tried craning his neck around to see the flutter, but quickly gave it up. "Tha difference, li'l lady, is whether yore laughin' too."
His tone was still amused, but for the moment the stallion was not laughing at all. From any other Soquili, this would be a lighthearted moment, but for Paul Revere it was as serious as it ever got.

"But... but why would I laugh?" she asked, now confused. No no NO. She was the one that was supposed to be confusing, the one who was so intelligent, she made others' heads spin. Not the other way around!! "What if I don't know what's supposed to be funny or not?
