There was only one soquili in the world that could possibly help him. Kiefer knew it. His father, Bairn. The stallion that raised him. He loved his mother, and his sisters. But he didn't think they could help him as much. They weren't males. They wouldn't understand. But his father would. Well, probably not actually. But his father would give him the best advice.

That is, if he didn't kill him first.

That was how Kiefer found himself in his old home land. Many days of galloping through the snow had brought him here. And now, he looked. He hoped that he could find his father. With out him...well, the stallion wasn't sure what he would do. The guild was getting bad. Kiefer hadn't slept in days. He had thrown up most of what he ate, if he ate anything at all.

"Dad?" he said, his voice cracking. He hadn't spoken to anyone since his encounter with Tayook. "Bairn?" he called again, louder. Oh god, his father had to be here. HAD to be. He wouldn't leave, right? Kiefer knew Bairn loves his family. And this was where any of them would go if they ever needed their parents.

And here Kiefer was. In more need then he had ever been in his life. His father BETTER be here. Or else, Kiefer knew, he would never be able to face his problems.

He'd be damned if he left that area anymore. He had Astia looking for him one day, and they found eachother after so long. They vowed never to leave eachother's side for longer than a certain amount of days, and well...Astia was off someplace at the moment, and he was still where she left him.

All he ever really wanted was a happy family, a big...wonderful and happy family. With a mate and children, and he had that for sure, but never really in the way he wanted. His children were off in the most random places, probably in the most random situations, and him and his mate barely saw much of eachother, still.

But somehow, he was more happier than he could ask for. He had his sisters, his brothers, his parents...their own families...he had a whole bunch of relatives to turn to when things were bad, so he was never really alone. Sure the ones he created with love were gone, but they knew where to find him when they needed help.

And appearantely, one of his children needed him more than ever today. He heard the voice almost as quickly as it came, and he smiled. Ah, his son was actually coming to visit him? No. There was something wrong, a Father could always tell there was something wrong with his children, just by the way they looked, or sounded. The stallion headed closer to Kiefer's voice, came bursting out of the bushes. "What are you calling me by my first name for, boy? I'm your Father." Bairn joked, a goofy grin plastered on his face at the sight of a once young stallion, now all grown up.

But yes, something was definitely, terribly wrong.

((Totally blanked on sending you the link. XD At least you found it!))

Kiefer turned his head quickly as he heard the response of his father. Thank God. His father was here. For a moment he cracked a smile, as if he was genuinely happy to see him. But then it fell again. No, this was not a happy time. Sure, seeing his father after all this time...was wonderful. Kiefer ran towards the voice, and saw him. His father seemed just like he remembered him. Maybe a bit smaller? No, Bairn was still much taller then Kiefer. But he didn't seem to tower over him like Kiefer remembered.

"Sorry...just...if you didn't recognize my voice" he said slowly, barely picking up the humor his his father's voice. This wasn't a joking time. Kiefer brought his head down, letting his mane fall in front of his face. He couldn't look at his father. He had done something that he would be ashamed of. Something unbearably horrible. But Bairn was the only one that could help him right now.

"I...messed up. I need your help, dad" he said, slowly and quietly. He couldn't bring himself to say what he did. It was like he had a lump in his throat. The look on his father's face when he said it too him... well Kiefer knew it would be too much for him to bare.

Yet, he had to do it. He felt bad, for ruining his father's day. Or week. Or life. He knew Bairn would be happy just to see him, and for a moment Kiefer regretted not visiting before. Because he knew now the only reason he was here was to give out the horrible news.

What a bad son he was.

Yes, oh boy...something was definitely up. Kiefer, or either of his daughters weren't ones to crack smiles constantly, or throw around friendly comments, but they still had their Father's family obsession and there was never a time that he could recall, that Kiefer didn't smile at the sight of his old man. "Recognize my own son's voice? Boy, it's been long, but not THAT long!" The old stallion laughed whole heartedly, and stared down his son. Things have surely changed, the sight of Kiefer made Bairn feel instantly older than he should feel. And it also made him wonder just how his daughters looked. Hopefully they weren't gorgeous, so stallions weren't chasing them.

The stallion leaned in once Kiefer reached him, and nuzzled the other softly. He respected the fact that his son didn't want to joke around, or continue the happy moment they shared for literally a second, because something was on his mind. "Messed up? Geez, you're more like me than I hoped. What's wrong, Kiefer? You know no matter what it is, I can't get angry because I love you, so you can tell me anything." Bairn gave him a genuine smile, trying to tell in those handsome green eyes, just what it was.

If anything, he hoped it WASN'T what he was thinking. But with his luck, it just might as well be. Bairn would wait as long as it took him to talk, because it appeared to nto want to come out just yet.

Kiefer took a deep breath, bringing his head up slightly. He nuzzled his father back, and flinched slightly. He felt like he didn't deserve this kind of affection. Bairn had never seemed like a cold or mean stallion to Kiefer, but it was easy to forget how much his father loved his children. Hopefully that love would keep him from murder today.

"Well...I..." he couldn't say it. No. He had too. He was brave enough to do what he had done, and now he needed to be brave enough to accept the consequences. No matter how hard it was. "I...met a mare" he said. Best to start from the beginning. A simple, innocent statement. Now, that wasn't so hard. But that wasn't what he came here to say.

Kiefer shifted his weight slightly. He felt like a stupid little foal telling his father he had gotten hurt when he snuck out, crawling back to him for help after he had disobeyed him. But it wasn't like that. He hadn't disobeyed his father. Sure, this was not something Bairn would ever encourage. But... Kiefer was an adult now. He made his own mistakes, he needed to deal with them. And now, he needed to go to his father, one adult to another, for help.

"And...we...I...well.." this wasn't going well. "going to be a ....dad" he said. It was almost a mumble. He brought his head up, and peaked at his dad's face. He hoped Bairn understood. Sometimes others thought of this as a good things. Well, it was. Under the right circumstances. And these were not good circumstances.

"I...don't think I'm ready" he added after a deep breath, finally. Kiefer gave a silent prayer for his life.

Why would his son ever act like his own father would hurt him? Sure Bairn had a tougher side, so did the rest of his family, and he may act mean to others that either 1) he didn't like, or 2) he didn't know...but there was never a time, no matter how bad the situation was, where he would ever hurt the ones he loved.

But maybe the old stallion was shooting for a situation a whole lot less worse than the one Kiefer was about to deliver. Brown eyes stared at their golden child, wondering what could have possibly happened to make him act like a colt. He was a grown stallion, for goodness sake! And not only that, but he had a tough ring around him as well! But Kiefer was freaking out, and for good reason.

"Well, I suppose that's always a pleasuring experience." Bairn started off as well, having not the slightest clue what his son was complaining about, and then it hit him hard.

Boy, was he older than he wanted to be, by not catching on to the hit quicker. It took a moment or two for the stallion to put all the pieces together, and judging by his son's actions right now, this...hunch was most definitely correct.

Then he did it, he delivered the news, as hard as it was for Kiefer to say it, it was even harder for Bairn to comprehend it. A...father? His own was going to bare children of his own? Oh, boy that in itself was hard to believe. Him? A grandfather? Astia, a grandmother? She was definitely not going to take to this news well...if anything good at all. He stared at Kiefer for what seemed like forever, an emotionless expression planted on his face, as he continued to think about what it meant. His baby was going to have babies? He was going to most likely be there for them, wouldn't he? Astia and him together, taking care of grandkids...?

Oh, boy...dare he even THINK about what situation his daughters were in now?

After the moments of forever passed, Bairn cracked a smile. It was rather sarcastic, and he hadn't meant it to come out, but it did...just like old times. "First off, I'm going to guess you two aren't mated, and that this was a mistake, on YOUR behalf?" The stallion's voice wasn't harsh at all, but rather soft. This wasn't a time to be joking around, he son desperately needed help.

"Well, you're damn right you're not ready. Boy, I thought I raised you better than that. To go off and knock up a poor mare, and where is she now?" He scanned the area, and there was no sight of anyone, nor any sound. "I think your biggest mistake so far is running away from the original one." Now his voice was more stern than ever.

"You cannot just leave her, Kiefer. You cannot just make her deal with this by herself, especially if she's not the one who got herself into this mess. You may not love his mare, but if she's carrying YOUR children, you need to be there for her at least to raise them to adulthood. Don't come to me with your problems and expect me to make it all go away, son." He glared at him quickly, there was no need to 'hurt' him, like Kiefer expected. "I am disappointed in you, Kiefer. Situations like these are supposed to make a stallion stronger, not fall to the ground like a pathetic colt."

So he wasn't as good at praise or comfort like his own parents were, but he tried his best to sound like Hania would have if he was there.

Kiefer looked at his father's blank expression. He tried to remember how he felt when Journey first gave HIM the news. Somehow, he didn't think he reacted as bad as his father seemed to be. Well. Maybe not at a different level, but a different reaction entirely. He had behaved like a scared colt, and his father had behaved as a stallion should. Heading the situation.

Kiefer had always thought he was a bit like his father. He was never sure weather to like it or hate it. There were traits his father bore that he would never want, and also traits he would be proud of. But for the first time in his life, he felt like opposite to his father, nothing like him. And the shame that came with that was much worst then that he felt when told he was exactly like him.

His father's words came hard and fast once he understood the situation. For a moment, Kiefer wished that Bairn had just hit him instead.

He closed his eyes tight, taking a few steps away, listening to the words. His father was echoing what he knew he had to do. But being told them from Bairn...well. It hurt much more then his own mind had let them. His life wasn't over in the sense that he was dead. It was over in the sense that it would soon belong to two or threw foals.

"I...it's not ALL my fault" be mumbled slightly in his own defense. It wasn't a one sided thing, and he knew it. Journey had taken on the idea with just as much heart as he had. It wasn't as if Kiefer had done something malicious, or out of bounds. It wasn't his fault Journey was pregnant.

But it was part his fault. And as much as he hated to admit it, he had to take on part of the responsibility.

"I doubt she'll even WANT me back at this point" he said, somehow trying to justify his actions. They were so horrible, he wasn't sure how he possibly could. "She said it herself, she didn't need me" Kiefer said with a deep breath.

And then, again, he felt like a colt. Maybe Kiefer wasn't as grown-up as he thought he was. Certainly he had the grown up body. But he was still stuck in colt land, and he knew it. His sisters had moved on. He thought the idea of having a mate, a family, infinitely far off. But he was of the age to have children. So were his sisters. Some of his childhood friends already HAD full grown children.

It was time to grow up. But could one really grow up that fast?

Kiefer sighed. "I know...I'm....pathetic" he said slowly. He felt like crying. But thats what colts did. He needed to be a stallion.

((I suck at life...))

The news of foals, no matter how bad the situation could be, never really upset Bairn. Thanks to his parents, he had a utter soft spot for little ones, and a family always made everything better. When Astia first told him about it, he should have been scared. Heck, any stallion in their right mind would have freaked out...because technically at that time, they were still a little shaky in their relationship.

But no, Bairn was far too much like Mahiri and Hania to spaz. He wanted kids, and so the news was wonderful. The news of grandkids...was wonderful. But right now he had to fix how his son reacted. He may not like what his eldest had become, nor his youngest, but his son was different. He son was a reflection of himself, and everything he wanted to be, his son...would be if his father had anything to say about it. Boy, Hania would be proud...that's for sure. He'd have to find his father one day and tell him about Kiefer...

"Hmm, well not in that sense, no." Bairn let out a whole hearted laugh. "But it is your mistake for not knowing the coinsquences. All mares know, it's in their blood...but stallions are far to dumb. This mare...she probably accepted the possibility a long time ago, and perhaps even wanted it...but your...foolishness upset her."

"And don't go off saying that, idiot." He snapped, not meaning to get angry with his son, but this was just getting ridiculous. What was Kiefer, a scared little kitten, or a strong stallion? "You're the father of her kids. She most definitely wants you back. No other stallion can replace you as their father, because they'll look like you, and they'll act like you. Only you can raise them, only you and this mare are good enough." Bairn shook his head, his voice softing. Perhaps yelling wasn't the best way to approach it. "She was just angry, trust me. I'll bet you that she's sitting somewhere right now, scared that she has to do it alone. And praying that you return."

If only Kiefer knew what his father was thinking at the moment, he'd change his mind about thinking he was a foal. Bairn smiled. Kiefer was just being young, which he had every right to do so, usually one really never had to grow up until they had little ones. Take Bliss for example, the old baffoon. He'd 'grow up' eventually...heck, it may even happen when he turns around and goes back to Journey.

"Pathetic? No." Bairn leaned in to nuzzle his son. "Most definitely not pathetic. Just...unaware." He laughed, and let the subject drop for a few moments before speaking again.

"Dear god, I don't want to be the one to deliver the news to your mother." But of course, he'd have to be.
