I made this up on my own, and have found that just about every band geek I talk to understands it, so, I'm posting it here for all us Marching addicts.

The Laws of Marching Band:

#1: What ever happens in Band camp, stays in band camp
#2: Water is your friend
#3: The sun is not your friend
#4: Drill charts are not sweat rags
#5: Tubas (and guard) have the right of way
#6: Watch out for falling objects
#7: GET IN THE PICTURE!
#8: Toes up!
#9: Never piss off a piccolo player who is holding a piccilo
#10: Don't piss off the people with the longest reach (poles are a whole lot cheaper than instruments)
#11: The band director is always right
#12: The drum majors are never wrong (Unless in conlift with rule #11)
#13: The trumpet is sacred. Fear the Trumpet
#14: If you can't understand the drumline, dont worry, not many people can.
#15: Ridiculous uniforms are always in fashion
#16: BIGGER IS BETTER!
#17: Don't feed the sousaphones
#18: Flipflops are the enemy. Never associate with the enemy
#19: Don't be horny! Be saxy!
#20: It's our field! We just let the football team use it.

This is the Sacred Code of Marching Band as laid out by Mioko07. Please add rules as you see fit.

i have to dissagree with number 16. bigger is NOT better. this year our marching band was at 94(the lowest its been in history i might add, but we are building back up. someday we will return to our once 290 member band crying ) and we played as loud as any big band. judges said so on our tapes. well, thats my only dissagreement. the rest of it is so true.

#22. Never get in the way of a saber and if drill calls for it don't make the wepons mad! =)

Edit-

#23. Never run through gaurd block when they are spinning.

Actually #16 can also refer to how loud your band is, so if you say your band could play as loud as any big band, and they mean that's a good thing, then the rule still applies.

I know how you feel about a shrinking band though. Even though our band has never been that small, it has been shrinking in the past few years. All around my area, huge bands are a norm so when I heard how small some bands are, I was pretty shcked. Then again, I come from a school with over 6000 students. lol, yeah, we are pretty big.

#8: Toes up!
Haha. I hear this on a daily basis.
#16: BIGGER IS BETTER!
Actually, in some cases this is true. With a big band, if someone makes a mistake, it isn't as noticable as a smaller band. Then again, a smaller band could be even more impressive if they play just as loud, march just as well, etc.
Then again, I wouldn't really know what it's like to be in a small band because our band has been over 200 people... >_<

#23: Mufasa!!!!

Yes the lion from lion king you twits. xD Our band directors always told us to Move faster, but they watched lion king and now all they do is scream mufasa at us. xD

#24: If you can hear the pit, you're wrong

Our band teachers always told the band to play louder than the pit because our pit is freaking huge and we play at like nine inches throughout mos of our pieces. it's really funny because we get microphones too. i think the band teachers were doing it on purpose to make the band play luoder even though we're 300 strong

NO BAND BABIES!!!!!
cuz you cant march when your pregnant. lol. no. its cuz there are alot of band/guard/dance team couples so when ever we see them kiss or holding hands we yell the rule at them. its fun.

AT ATTENTION NONO'S *from the RHS Thunder Drumline*
1) Sitting
2) Running from Bees
3) Starting Holy Wars
4) Assulting/ harassing the Cymbals
5) Raping TJ (Hes the drumcapitan)
6) pissing of the Mexican (we have a 6'5" giant mexican on snare)

RULE #1 The Drummajor is always right
RULE #2 If the drum major is wrong, refer to rule #1

Our 6'5" Mexican likes to yell "JI'HAD!!!" and start running at one of the cymbal players who has been dubed his "Human Shield" they play around alot like that, and sometimes during attention cuz the last set of our last song puts the drumline in the back, so the DM cant see us. so that went onto our NONO's list. xd

lol that's awesome.

Oh, I'm just wondering, how often do your band directors yell "Get in the picture!"
