Me and my friend were discussing the very famous Fender Strat, we both agreed that the Strat is more of a professional starter guitar. (not like one of those crappy "power starter" guitars or what ever they are)
So GGG: Do you think Strats are more of a professional starter?

Personally I hate Fender. But some of the greatest started out with one and they're a good choice.

strats are known for having really good tone, if they're GOOD strats.
but other times a good "starter" guitar won't be a squier or a mexi-strat, it will be an ibanez, those are really good for the money; that geo series has some balls. (on guitars...not basses)

i dont think there is a professional starter guitar
but whatever anyone can use to learn and play guitar would just be fine I think .

idk.i don't really like fenders, but i do agree that a strat would be a pretty good starter guitar.

stats are nice.. i started with a squier strat and an ibanez starter.. i prefferred the squier though..

i like strats. but it has to be a good strat, because they can really suck if you're not careful. i despise squires.

FENDER strats are not really starters per se, but they are cheaper. They are pretty good, too. American strats are N-I-C-E though.

my dad has a classic baby-blue strat that is awesome. but overall, i prefer my gibsons.

i have a Fender strat and i have play with all my life and its never really botherd me i still play it, and i have no problem and i think they sound good, my is a squier strat and i love my guitar

really the only thing i don't like about playing strats is that there is no stop bar, which is where i always rest my hand on my SG.

i have a mex. fat strat, and other than the bolt on neck and the vol. and tone configuation being to close to the bridge ( i always hit the vol. knob when i'm palm muting and is uncomfortable) its a real good guitar.
imo the reason most people buy strats as a first guitar is because most people that dont know any better asociate strats with rock and alot of people i know when they ask me what kind of guitar i have and i tell them a strat , if they dont know anybetter react with "wow, isn't fender the best brand?" which is like a statement and a question. idk. ignorince is bliss i guess.

I think that any guitar would be a good starter guitar, most likely if you are starting out you will have a crappy amp, so even if you did have a good guitar it still would not be able to live up to its potential. I prefer tele's, which was one of my first guitars.

If I understand what you mean by a "professional starter guitar", I disagree completely. From what I understand, you mean that strats are like the frirst step on the professional guitar ladder, which I think is wrong. There is a reason why Fender sell many variations of strat, priced for different budgets and skill. Also, I wouldn't say that it would a professional 'starter' guitar, considering the professionals of professionals use strats almost constantly. Heard of Clapton? Gilmour? Hendrix? Vaughn?
I play a Fender mex Strat (with some modifications), and I thnk it is a good guitar - it's the kind of guitar that I don't think I would nessecarily replace, but upgrade further.
However, if I miscontrued what you said, then I'll happily take what I said back.
