I just got a pack of tarot cards.
The Rider Tarot Deck
The box says.

The worlds most common deck I think.

So ya,does anyone know any basic but somewhat more accurate spreads?
The Celtic Cross works...okay,but not perfect.
The Five Card is ok also...

I've seen a 10 card Celtic Cross and I've also seen a 14 card Celtic Cross. The additional 4 cards are for the 4 elements. I'm not a big Tarot guy so that's really the only spread I know. You could look for others in books or online, or you could even come up with your own.

I've never been big on tarot cards either, but you could try the three sets of three for past present and future, or a six card spread at the points of a pentacle with one in the middle.

Other then 7 cards in a row and the like type of spreads, I'd say just...draw them as you feel you should.

I forgot about the three card but I don't see how you would read the pentacle one...

This is a picture of the picture for the (Nocturnal) Pentagram Spread. Theres a preferance for how to do this, but I'm using it as an example for how I think a person can get creative with tarot spreads. It seems to be what an invoking pentagram would look like in a mirror for the drawing of it.

1-Top Centre-Roots
2-Bottom Left-Past
3-Right Middle-Trends
4-Left Middle-Feelings
5-Bottom Right-Outcome
6-Middle/Centre-Inspiration

Though I would think 6 could be a signifier card or what have you. Just, find some spreads, and butcher them as you see fit. Or, go with the flow when drawing cards/placing them in a reading.

Three card past (1), present (2), future (3) spread. That's about as basic as it gets. wink

I use a modified horseshoe spread. I'm too lazy to make an image and it won't let me do it with text, so just make it look like a horseshoe or pyramid. sweatdrop

1: Past
2: Initial choices
3: Influences/opinions of those around you
4: Your present position (literally and mentally)
5: Hidden influences, forces at work
6: What you should do/What is blocking your path/working in your favor
7: Most likely outcome given the path you're going right now OR the likely outcome if you heed any advice given.

It's pretty basic...but if you practice tarot for a long time, you can get a LOT of information just from one card. I also don't get too hung up on literal card meanings or placement meanings--sometimes I'll get a very strong message from the cards, and when that happens you just need to go with it, because it's always something that is more important than the literal meaning.

Want the most basic spread you can get? Draw one card. Just one card to illuminate something of the sittuation. Generally most readings will only require one card... you don't need to make it any more complicated than it needs to be. If you still have questions after drawing one card, draw another as a clarifier.

I very rarely draw more than three cards in a spread.

[Breaths life back into this thread]

I have a shop and I wanted to introduce a new, an origional and unique tarot spread.

So I've got this question: What was the most interesting tarot reading you've had?

Well there was one where it said a friend and I would argue about the girl we love... Yeah. It happened. Big time. Now she doesn't want to be friends with me anymore.

Funny story. I went on a grup trip through western europe and I had brought my cards with me. So everyone asked for readings.

Well, I gave this one reading to a girl which basically said: The most important thing you own at this point is going to be stolen, but who ever stole it would give it back.

Now, they called me Mama Hen because I saved about three of them from being run over in the streets of London, knabbed a pickpocketer before he made off with my friends wallet and I was basically the one who was watching out for the other 30- somthing kids.

The girl I gave the reading to kept being a ditz. A complete ditz. D:< She would literally drop her shopping bags in the middle of the street and not even realise what she had done. Leaving wallets, keys, and all her crap around where ever we went. At the farry terminal she left her purse behind.

I knabbed her purse and went on board the cruise to England. It wasn't until later that night she realized it was gone. And I gave it back after holding it hostage for that night.

;o Thus the reading came true, I didn't realize it until after the fact. But it was really funny.

You could also try a 12 card layout, 4 for past, 4 for present, 4 for future. The 4 columns would be Physical Environment, Psychological Environment, Spiritual Environment, and Resolution.

I do a clock-like reading with 12 cards for past life readings. I set them up like the numbers on a clock and read them counter-clockwise to travel backwards among the lives present in the reading. I usually just use my intuition for when to consider one life finished being represented and another started.

You could do a seven card reading based on the seven chakras, but that would involve a pretty thorough knowledge of the chakras and how they influence the body, mind and spirit.

As an addendum to that, you could try doing a seven card spread based on the seven operations of alchemy, but once again you'd have to have a thorough knowledge of the operations and what they mean as far as physical, mental, and spiritual development.
