This year, our marching band got to participate in the Hollywood Santa's Parade! We were on TV, and we got lots of air time since we led out to a commercial break. Man, this was a cool experience, but I HATE parades. I hate the whole standing around and waiting thing. Plus, there was this scary drunk guy that was harassing the end of the parade block/guard. xD; Also, when we were walking to the staging area, these two ladies went up to the guard and said, "Girls, your education is important. Also, keep your legs crossed or your dreams will die fast." O____________o
So...any memorable parade experiences that you wish to share? xD

Heh, I've only been in one parade and it was a local Christmas parade.. But, Oh...My...God My shoulders felt like they would fall off by the middle of the parade (I'm a bass player) I couldn't stand that weeks after the season ended, we still had to do this stuff... I love marching band, But I'm a somewhat pessimist. So yeah.

I did my first marching band parade a few weeks ago at the Christmas Parade. And Sweet Jesus... I have never been in that much pain in my life. We walked at least 5 miles. @___@ And by the end of the parade, everyone looked like they went to hell and came back. It was not a pleasant experience. x_x

I'd always found parades a little tiring...but then I became drum major. Oh my gosh, marching a 5 mile parade backwards is nearly impossible. In practice, I had a few days where I couldn't breathe and had to sit down for the last lap. By the end of every practice, I felt ready to fall over backward. I changed how the drum majors this year march - we face forward when conducting (however lame that is...but it keeps me alive, so I figure it's a decent trade-off).
I do have some good stories though. Our band marches in the Parade of Lights (a long parade in December where people are supposed to dress up with lights and occasionally tinsel, etc.). In past years, certain band members wrapped themselves with tinsel. As the parade went on, though, the tinsel slid down around their legs, making them double-time or hop to keep up. Last year, the Parade of Lights was really, really cold. After marching to a drum cadence, we started our Christmas song, but every brass instrument was frozen. It was actually pretty funny, looking back. I think I glared at the mellophone players (my section) and they all looked back at me helplessly while trying to unstick their valves. Luckily, we were in a part of the parade that, thanks to the weather, had no people around.

Well my freshman year we did the disneyland parade, sophmore year didnt do disneyland cause we acted REALLY bad that year, and this year we went and did a parade in Disney World Magic Kingdom. Disney parades are the worst cause the magic from disneyland disappears when you see a guy in a woody costume with no head on crying
