Does anyone play the flute in a Jazz band? I really don't want to feel alone! I play it in my school's Jazz band and I'm the only one! So any 8th graders especially let me know...

I'm an eighth grader and they don't allow flutes in our jazz band... except last year when the soprano sax guy played a couple of flute solos just because he could. Jazz band is zero period anyway and I'm so sleep-deprived usually anyway, I doubt I could make it.

they don't let any flutes in my jazz band either =
i WISH i was..all my best saxophone/trumpet/drum friends are in it

and yeah, it's "0 period" for us too, we'd have to go in early.
truthfully, idk how my friends were able to stand waking up

I know one of our senior girls used to be in Jazz band, but she quit I guess crying
Our director flatly refused! We begged, pleaded, fell to his feet, but NO! Well, we also have it "zero period" so maybe I would die in the morning...

my friend Vi played flute in jazz band in middle school. She's about ready to kill our high school BD's for not letting them in now.

OMG!
When I was in 7th grade, I played flute in jazz. There was two of us. But then 8th grade year, I switched to tenor sax and there were still two flutes. That was an after school thing.
Now I don't think that their are any flutes in high school jazz and yea, zero period as well.

our school only has two flutists in jazz band. the first chair flutist in advanced band and the other is one of my best friends. i didn't even try out one because i dont like jazz music and two because im only about the sixth or seventh best flute player in the school. out of thirty. most of our flute players suck. ok im getting off topic. and rambling. i get distracted easily. LOOK A BUTTERFLY! oh yeah, i love tearsofsaturn's sig. IT'S SO CUTE! LOOK ANOTHER BUTTERFLY!

yeah, the flutes in our jazz band, 3 of them, just end up playing 2nd and 3rd trumpet
but at least our flutes are allowed in jazz band...

last year in middle school flutes were allowed and they still are but im in high school now and its only brass and rhythem. i'm a flute player but a play bass for jazz. this is my 2nd year in jazz and its zero hour too.
gahh im so tired! its so early!

A friend of mine only got to play as a guest because it was Pink Panther. But other than that, no.

We don't even have flutes in my university's jazz band. -sigh- If you want to see/hear some amazing jazz flute though, listen to Maynard's recordings from the 80s. There's some pretty freaky flute playing going on there. Love it.

Wow, it's kind-of surprising how many high schools don't allow flutes.
Mine does. I'm the only one in it for the high school, as last year's three graduated. There were two that tried out, and I made the cut. I usually play guitar, vibes, or flute parts with my Jazzy violin buddy. What's cool, though, is that in some pieces, there's a Sax/Flute part, and since no saxes play flute, I get to play the parts. ^.^

Well, there was supposed to be a jazz camp where I live, at the college. =/ During the summer. There was supposed to be a lot of famous jazz players or something. I auditioned for flute and piano. I /think/ I got in, but it got canceled at the last second. xD
In our school's jazz band, there aren't any flute players...the flute isn't really a "jazzy" instrument, unless you do something special on it or something. So...can't help you there. xD

Heh, I've never seens a flute in a jazz band. And there's usually a lot of noise happening in jazz a flute might not be heard unless they play high the whole time. cool
