I have a game for you all. There will be various aspects to this message, I want you all to spot them. Correlation between guild members is suggested. There are no specifics, just point out inconsistencies. I'll add more situations later.
Situation 1 ~~~ A man is laying in his bed thinking. It's approximately 2:00 AM. He's been trying to sleep since 11:00 PM but he's failed to do so. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees a shadow run by. He gets up to check what it is, scared. As he walks down the hall, he sees the shadow in the middle of the hall. Even though it's body is a dark mass, it's transparent, he can see his red eyes from behind. All angles. The creature looks him in the eyes and suddenly he can no longer move. He's paralyzed with fear as it moves closer to him. He's cornered in his room with nowhere to run. Sudden the creature is gone and he is safe. He crawls back into bed and stares at the roof until morning. What happened?
Situation 2 ~~~ This time, It's a code. I love codes. This one is really just for fun. I'll warn you though, it's hard. Here's a hint. The key comes in apple, cherry, and pumpkin.

Well, I found one. Italics are pretty obvious.
Maybe these are just plot/grammatical issues, but the fact that he's "cornered in his room" is iffy since he's in the hall when he sees the shadow/creature. Plus he also "can see his red eyes from behind", which is interesting, since the shadow is always referred to as "it" throughout the passage. Plus since he's looking at it from behind, it must be pretty odd for it to be a) looking at him in the eyes, regardless of wether he can see its eyes, and b) moving closer to him, since it's still being seen from behind by this point.

What happened? italics, if its a dark mass, how is it transparent? if hes still paralised how does he crawl back to bed, u answered ur own question at the end with the entire situation, "what happened" was basically what u just said

Doing good so far, most everyone picked up on the italics. Still missing one key point I shoved in there. One thing I would also like to ask. If this were an actual post, just reworded into a coherent story, what would you make of this? What did this man see?

"All angles" what? That part confuses me. >>
If this was made into a coherent story, I think it could either be a dream, a hallucination, or (if there were no inconsistencies) maybe something really did happen.
I'm leaning toward dream or hallucination, since he was awake for so long. He could've fallen asleep without realizing or had his head play tricks on him. And even if his physical eyes were open, he could've still been dreaming. *has had that experience before sweatdrop *
@a**l Jesus: I get the feeling that he's trying to point out that my experience might not have been real. Could be wrong, though.

well, youfoundone Cute, I like the space that was italicised too. There is no mention of the creature turning around to look him in the eyes. a**l Jesus Why do I have the idea you're using us like lab rats? In the 'Who's legit' thread Pyrokin132 Hmm, Can't do any of that stuff really. I pick up on psychological cues easily though. I can even pick them out of text about 70% of the time. I see a 'correlation' there. An offhand and egotistical idea I'm entertaining is this 'game' is indirectly also gauging personal and interpersonal skills which I cannot think of to name right now. Still, very interesting.

But he's failed to do so ssuggests that he failed to try to sleep not that he failed to sleep. Also if he were unable to move, he could not run, whereas you say that he has no"where" to run he could run back into his room and baricade the door the fact that he would have no"way" to run would. Finally red eyes make seeing nearly impossible

Well, I mean, aside from the things mentioned already, there are a few things I can point out as being "out of place". The problem is, however, that I am unable to tell if they are actual things meant to be noticed, or if mistakes on the part of the author.
For one, the grammatical mistakes. Frequent grammatical mistakes often set off a radar for me.
Second, the whole description of the "creature". A dark mass that is "see-through" would be translucent. The whole red eyes from all angles thing is a bit hazy, too. I mean, let's say the "creature" is a black blob of smoke. That seems to somewhat fit the description, no? If this black blob of smoke had two glowing red orbs suspended on the pseudo-surface of the blob where a face might be, then the orbs wouldn't glow with the same amount of brightness from all angles, correct? There would be some sort of...dimming from the smoke. If there wasn't, then how did he know it was "from behind"? I mean, if you could see the eyes from all angles, how did he know the creature didn't have his back turned in the first place?
Third, it said he saw the thing "run" by the room or whatever, but the story makes no mention of the glowing red eyes there. I mean, surely he would want to get a better look, but I'd sure as hell think a little harder before I jumped out of my bed to check out some glowing red eyes than I would a shadow. Hell, it could have been a bear or something.
And something I just want to know...how tall was it? That would be my first question. Because if it magically happened to be pretty damn near his height, I'd lean a bit more toward the "it's a dream/hallucination" scenario Moonlit Jade concocted.
Yay semantics.

Still, very interesting. Nice work. You pretty much hit the nail on the head. You people got the main idea of the passage and a lot of you caught on to the fact I was testing you. I look forward to working on this stuff more often with this group. A lot of other groups of this sort wouldn't even bother to consider that this man was dreaming or hallucinating. However one thing none of you really did was accuse this person of being a liar. One of the biggest problems with trying to study this stuff is that people lie. Sometimes not even on purpose. If we take everything posted here as a true statement, then soon we will notice inconsistencies and have a giant contradiction on our hands. I'ma get to work on a second, harder puzzle.
