It all started out as a normal day; Saga had woke up with the winter sun in his eyes, cold wind blowing into his room through the open window, and his body buried under a thick woolen blanket on his bed. The first thing he did, was to close the windows so that minimum wind could enter. He had rejected his mum's suggestion for a heater in his room, because... Well, a heater is a fire hazard. He will not risk it; he prefers the cold to heat anyway... It's more comfortable for him.

He took five minutes to take a trip to the bathroom next to his bedroom for washing up, and dragged himself down to the kitchen.

"Dad, what's for breakfast?" Saga yawned, stretching his arms as he walked into the room filled with delicious smells. His stomach growled, and the male rubbed it gently. When there was no answer, he frowned, walking further into the kitchen. "Dad? You here? Mum? Sis? Bro? Anyone here?"

"Hm... How rude..."

A familiar voice made Saga freeze in his steps, and a moment later, he realized who it belonged to, "Uncle? Why are you here?"

"Don't call me uncle... It makes me sound old. How many times had I repeated that?" Fauste frowned, shaking his head as he inspected Saga. "Change out of your pjs already, and make yourself presentable for breakfast. Your parents took your sister out for a check-up and everyone wanted to go along... Heh, you were left behind because you slept like a log."

"Ingina's okay, right?"

"Yes, and stop giving me that look. I don't look that funny in an apron, right? Your breakfast is a stack of pancakes with maple syrup... If you're still hungry after this, go eat the grass in the garden."

"You really want to know? About the apron?"

"No."

"Y'know," The teenager began, following the pyro's steps, watching his every move with narrowed brown eyes. "You could go to this...Saga's house on your own. I don't give a damn fart, unless you come back home for dinner, capiche?"

"But you're my babysitter." Mereneth replied, confidently strutting along the path, perfectly warm on this cold winter day thanks to his tail, which was currently blazing merrily. Orange orbs watched Yourie wrapping her arms around herself and pulling her coat closer as her teeth chattered. "Besides, I like to see you suffer."

"I'm not your babysitter." Melody's cousin growled. "Just a temporary caretaker. And are we there yet?"

"Much as I hate to say it, yes." He shot a grin at the eighteen year old. Using his wings for some leverage, he pressed the doorbell and waited for an answer.

"I hate you." Yourie muttered, shoving her hands deep into her pockets.

"Likewise."

"Open the damn door," Fauste commanded, giving Saga a side glance.

"But I'm eating!" The boy protested, trying to make himself understood as he munched down on the soft fluffy pancakes; it was almost as good at his dad's, but these pancakes were burnt slightly. If only his mum could cook this way... Saga frowned at his uncle, and seeing that Fauste will probably not see reason, muttered something under his breath and pushed himself off the chair. On his feet once again, Saga headed for the door, "Fine, you win this round... But I'll make you eat mum's cooking one day!"

"Humph... I had already survived various encounters with it."

Saga stuck out his tongue at his uncle's back, and walked over to the door, yelling 'Coming!' when he was within reach of the doorknob. Bracing himself for the cold air that would surely blast in, he swung the door open. In front of him, he saw one familiar face, and one stranger. Turning to face his friend, Saga gave a grin, something he had been unable to do since that incident, and invited him in with a hand gesture.

"Mere! Long time no see! And who's this with you?"

"Okay,"Yourie began as her eyes took a glance at the kid who opened the door. "So Mini-Axel came here to find Mini-Zexion? Where's the rest then?" A raised eyebrow and an amused gaze was directed at the fire boy.

Mereneth somehow chose not to give a snotty reply, and also not to mention that Aurelius looked somewhat like Larxene, though he highly doubted she was here. He stepped in with a grin, opening his mouth to reply when the teenager followed him and swatted him on the head with an invisible force. "Can it, smart mouth." She then turned to Saga and added. "Yourie Rousseau, temporary guardian and his mother's cousin." She pulled out her hat, shaking a dark braid out that ended at the elbows.

"Hey Saga." Mereneth muttered, rubbing his head as he pulled out his jacket and produced a basketball from under his arm; actually he had made it invisible on the way here, and spun it on one finger. "How ya doing?"

"Oh... Hello. Miss Yourie? It's okay to call you that, right?" Saga frowned, rubbing his chin with a thoughtful look. He didn't know that Miss Melody have a cousin; although uncle Fauste knew Miss Melody for a longer time, he guessed that he didn't know about the cousin as well. The male got the 'mini organization thirteen' comment, especially since he was there when Aure and mere had dressed up as members from the group during last Halloween about a year ago.

"Well, my parents are out, but-"

"Kid, what's taking you so long to open one stupid door?" Fauste's voice became louder as he stepped out from the kitchen into the living room where the rest were. He was no longer in his apron, and because of the cold weather, he had worn a long sleeved black shirt inside, and a short sleeved white shirt over that. He was in his usual pair of black long pants though, and wore slippers on his feet to keep it away from the cold marble floor.

"Hey, if it isn't Melody's little boy," The male raised an eye-brow, remembering their previous encounter in his apartment. Looking up from Mere, he spied an unfamiliar face and frowned.

"That's Miss Yourie Rousseau," Saga quickly chipped in, before anymore remarks could leave Fauste's lips. Gesturing for the two guests to enter the house, Saga closed the door before turning to face his uncle again. "She is Mere's temporary guardian, and Miss Melody's cousin."

"Hm... Fauste. Saga's father's brother-"

"My uncle-"

"And temporary here to look after him, despite my unwillingness."

"Yourie's just fineee." The teenager assured him, skipping past him into the warmth of the house to peel off her coat. Her usual wear was underneath; a purple tied top over a black tube top, despite the weather, showing her slim curves, but she had dissed the usual shorts for jeans instead. "That's what the bra..I mean Mr Fire boy, calls me anyway." Somehow, she doubted he would take her comment of Mereneth being a brat as a joke. The two were friends after all.

"Why, hello Uncle Fauste." Mereneth grinned, catching the ball and placing it under his arm. To him, pissing adults off was real fun.

"Mel mentioned you." Yourie said bluntly, an eyebrow raised as she stared at the other guardian. "That makes two of us." The eighteen year old groused, leaning against the wall to glare at the Illusionary. "Now go play, whatever."

Mereneth rolled his eyes, turning to his friend instead. "So, how have you been?" He asked. "Do you play basketball?"

"Fauste calls me a brat all the time," Saga mused in a soft voice, making sure only Mere could hear him. He shook his head, as if he was disapproving something, and continued with a mock sigh, "I guess unwilling caretakers are all the same, huh? Yours and mine... But Fauste's cooking is not bad. Well, either that or I'm just really hungry."

He paused, eying the basketball in Mere's arms. Something in him stirred, and he found himself retrospecting about past events and unhappiness... Even now, whenever he passes by the school hall, his heart turns sour. Of course, Mere didn't know what have happened, and a game of basketball was just his way of spending time with a friend... Nothing more.

Saga nodded slowly, "Yes... I do play basketball. But... Well, it's been a while since I last played, so I think my skills are rusty now..." He let out a laugh and forced a smile, "But let me get in proper clothes first. There's no way I'm going outside to play basketball in this shirt and pants from my pjs. Not only will my health be affected, but my pride as well."

"Honored, I'm sure," The male adult answered, raising an eye-brow at Mere before turning to Yourie. This woman was so different as compared to Melody; the other woman would probably never speak like that unless provoked. "So, how's Melody? Hadn't heard from her for quite some time... Got pretty quiet ever since she moved out of my building."

The boy shrugged. Adults were pretty funny to figure out...even his mother at times. "I've never tasted Yourie's cooking. She doesn't cook, really." But then again, it was because Lyll did it, being the house caretaker. He didn't notice Saga's reaction to the word basketball, or sense anything wrong, then again...he wasn't telephatic. "Cool. I'll wait for you."

Yourie was though. And it wasn't long till she had sensed the unhappy thoughts, but she kept her mouth shut. Even though she didn't particularly like him, it was Saga's decision to tell him, not hers. It wasn't because she didn't want to hurt Mereneth, because he would feel guilty to trigger awful memories in his friend. Really. If she had her way, she would've already said so.

"Uh...um..." Damn. Was she supposed to cover for her cousin or something? "She's gone back home visiting for the holiday season." She said smoothly, finally deciding on the first option. "So why? You miss her?"

"Give me a minute," Saga gave a nod before dashing up the stairs to his room. There was the sound of his slippers knocking against the floor in the hallway, followed by a loud 'bang' as his bedroom door closed. Then, a brief moment of silence returned to the house. It was, of course, broken by Fauste's quick reply.

"Miss her? I wouldn't actually call it 'missing' her... If I miss anything, it would be actual activity in the household. Like I said, ever since she moved back to her own house, the place had been a lot quieter... Although its never ever really quiet for me. There's always someone around, you know..." His eyes seem to look past the female, at someone standing behind her although there was clearly nobody there. Then, his glance returned to Yourie, "Hm... So, my point is, I wouldn't mind an actual visit or two from her."

There was the sound of slippers down the stairs as Saga emerged, wearing a t-shirt under a sweater that was not zipped up. He was wearing shorts that reached his knees, but he figured socks, shoes, and running around later will keep him warm.

"I'm ready... So, indoor or outdoor court?"

The girl couldn't help a slight roll of her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest. "So you get a girlfriend then. Whatever. Or get a kid. I mean, this is Gaia." She waved a hand dismissively. "Sooner or later, one's gonna be dumped on you." Well, luckily, none had been dumped on her. She had her hands full with being a temporary guardian, really. Brown eye narrowed as she noticed his glance slip away. "Or make some friends and invite them over for a party. You could always settle for your ghost friends."

Mereneth listened in on their conversation, bouncing the ball on the floor as he looked away, waiting for his friend to be done. At the word ghost, he frowned. She had to be joking, right? He shrugged lightly then turned as Saga returned. "Indoors." He said, wrinkling his nose. He didn't like the cold, really, even though he could counter it with a fire ball and his tail. But still, he preferred to keep warm. "Let's just leave the adults here to talk."

"Humph, I retain the right to remain single," Fauste replied, shaking his head as he smirked. "There is nothing quite like the feeling of not being tied down... I have no interest in those things. As for a kid... Well, I lost one quite some time ago. He was... Well, the first of his kind, I suppose. Sad to say, they all disappeared. I have no intention of getting another kid, unless one gets dumped on me, like you said."

The male's smirk vanished, replaced with a mock grin, "Ghost friends, eh? They're not actually pretty to look at. Those female ghosts with long, flowing black hair wearing a white dress that people talk about are so rare, I hadn't seen one ever since I took up Necromancy." Fauste was never afraid to talk about his work, even with children around.

"Besides, they don't really eat the things we eat."

Saga nodded, offering a small smile, "Well then, I know a place we could go to. An indoor sports hall... It has a nice basketball court that we can use. Oh, and ignore my uncle... If you pretend they don't exist, they don't exist."

"Well, yeah. The feeling of being free and all that." She did understand that; not being tied down was a kind of freedom. A relationship, to her, was a little too much trouble. Yourie's eyes narrowed, once again looking into his thoughts. "I see." She said after a long pause. So his son was like Gywn, the little girl Alora had confided in her about.

"Well, I wouldn't know." She retorted. "I can't see them. I'm only telepathic and telekinetic." She tapped a finger on the side of her head. "Mind power."

The Illusionary rolled his eyes as his "guardian" spoke about her power and was rewarded with a invisible whack to his head. He chose not to let any swear words slip out of his mouth and turned to Saga instead. "Alright then." He confirmed with a nod. And just for his mother's sake, he added, addressing Yourie instead. "We'll be back later."

"I knew it," Fauste sighed, shaking his head slowly as he lowered his glance, putting a hand on his head. Then, he looked up at the female again with a light smirk, "No wonder it felt like someone was prodding my thoughts just now... Too bad I don't know any methods to keep busybodies, such as you, out of my mind. Literally. Anyway, you should now know about Seth, and the other children... That was the reason I avoid having a child thrown at me."

"Let's go then," Saga smiled at Mere, used to his uncle and his unusual... 'Job', or rather, hobby. As long as the spirits leave Saga alone, he will avoid complaining to his parents about it. Besides, he has other things to worry about; school, basketball, his 'gift'... Yes, there were more pressing problems than ghosts.

'The thoughts on your gift will be blocked,' A soft, echoing whisper that only Saga could hear made him shiver. He closed his eyes for a moment as the feminine voice continued, 'Or that woman will know... And you promised me that nobody will know... Nobody... Nobody...'

As the voice faded away, Saga opened his eyes, rubbing them like something had been blown in, "Sorry... Something went into my eye... We good to go now, right?" He turned around and gave Fauste a good bye wave before going out the door, and on the pathway outside the front gate.

"Come on, Mere! Follow me!"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 12, 2008 2:56 am

The woman shrugged her shoulders lightly, returning his smirk with a slight quirk at the side of her lips. "I can't help it. I just..." She grinned, shaking her head with a small laugh. "See people's thoughts." She couldn't really control it, per se; it was a kind of power that couldn't be helped. She had it since she was young and had been used to it since. "Well yes. But perhaps you might. I mean, look at how many Mel has thrown at her. She had three toddlers at once." She held out three fingers, wincing.

"Okay." The redhead grinned, trying to clear any thoughts he had out of his mind as usual, knowing that she was looking into his mind as well.

"Ow!" Yourie suddenly exclaimed, putting a hand to her head suddenly. It was as if she had smacked right into a wall...mentally, that is. "What the hell?" She muttered slightly. She had never encountered anything like that before...unless someone was trying to block her from their mind. But who could it be? She shrugged. Oh well, it was probably a slight headache.

"You okay?" Mereneth asked, out of basic courtesy. Not bothering to even wave at his temporary guardian, he bounded out after Saga, rekindling the flame on his tail as they were out in the cold.

"You can't control it, huh?" Fauste raised an eye-brow, shrugging at the female. Then, he turned towards the kitchen and started to head in. He raised his right hand, and gestured towards the living-room where Yourie could take a seat. "Well, It guess its possible your power is of a passive nature... Now, lets leach my brother's supplies while waiting for the two short stuff to return from their little basketball game."

He reached for a teabag when in the kitchen, dipping it into a mug of steaming water. Then, he added a teaspoon of sugar and started stirring it with that same spoon before he added, "So, what would you like to drink? I guess he does keep a lot of beverages in the house... Let's see; there's juice, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soft drinks... Hm, even wine. I wonder why he keeps this here."

Saga nodded as he walked down the path, "Yeah, probably a stray grain of sand from outside."

The male looked wearily at the flame on the tip of Mere's tail, frowning as he added, "There's something about fire that really makes me uncomfortable... But since its part of you, I sort of feel comforted." He let out a nervous laugh, shaking his head. "I avoid it whenever I can..."
