"the new tale of the Crystal" The newest addition to the Final Fantasy series will come in 3 games on the PS3, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Final Fantasy XIII and Versus will be on the PS3 while Agito will be a mobile phone game. Final Fantasy XIII:When I first saw the trailer...I was stunned....senseless! The graphics have gone up another generation and now, even in battles, they maintain the same quality as FMV's which I find just...mind-boggling! Who would've thought?!?! So far we know that the new system is called "White Engine." The story takes place in a futuristic, advanced technological fantasy-like world. It takes place on "Pulse" with a city called "Cocoon" in the air. Not much is known about the story yet. It is said that the "crystal" theme is returning. Battle wise, we are seeing a transformation once again. Though the ATB system is back (Active Time Battle), we are seeing great variations. Attacks appear to be chained together in combos for damaging effects. The character that we first meet is "Lightning." Apparently she has amnesia and might have held some status in the past. She is the female version of Cloud. (Seriously...stare at her face and you can't help but think that she resembles Cloud.) Plus, it was confirmed. xd Final Fantasy Versus XIII:The first thing that came to mind when I first saw the trailer was, "Hey...this reminds me of Kingdom Hearts...." And it's true. The creators of FFVXIII are actually the KH crew. biggrin FFVXIII takes place in a futuristic world, quite based on modern times actually. The most recent trailer showed skyscrapers and cars. Versus XIII has even less info on it than XIII. The man of the story is apparently the last defender or heir of a crystal. The theme of "crystals" seems to be coming back from the older Final Fantasies 1-5. Final Fantasy Agito XIII:Even less info is presented. All we know is that this will be a mobile phone game (with damn good graphics for a phone game) centering around a group of students in a magic institute. The crystals will somehow be involved as well. Discuss your opinions on the upcoming games. biggrin

 Wow, they're already planning THAT much stuff for FFXIII and it's not even out yet?! They'd better hope to God that it's popular then, lol. I for one, am not very excited for FFXIII. :/ It just doesn't strike me as appealing. I watched the trailer, and was actually very bored. My friend told me the plot, and it reminded me of a rip-off of FFXII. About trying to move more and more away from the "fantasy" type features and keep it more about wars and such. I liked XII because it WAS fresh and new. FFXIII doesn't pose any new ideas, that I've seen thus far. The main character didn't even strike me as that great. Wow, he's a prince and he's hot. Big deal. :laughs:
Actually, I like how FF starts out with the main hero being insignificant, like a peasant or a thief.
Also in XIII, the female role seems to be annoying. Like a girl that's trying too hard to be badass.
And she looks like Ashe, ew.

Lightning was designed to look like a female Clould or whatever, go figure. I for one would love a female protagonist who is an improvement from X-2 Yuna and Terra. Terra is an awful heroine. : / But as for moving away from the whole "fantasy" thing, what the hell? The series is called Final Fantasy. I bought it for the fantasy not for the futuristic, cyberpunk wars.

EXACTLY.
Apparently in a certain interview... they said that they were TRYING to go for a less of a Fantasy theme. And, rumor has it the game takes place IN Japan?!
These are both just rumors of course, but seriously. No.
It's like what they did to Sprits Within. It was nothing like Final Fantasy, it just had the name and slight similarities like reference to Gaia. XIII involves a crystal of some sort... that holds the source of "ultimate powah" and is fought over etc etc.
It reminded me of FFXII, and the idea of nethicite. It also reminded me of XII because of the whole "wars between kingdoms"... "The rebellious prince"... "going against the higher-ups".
WTFFF MAAN.

I'm actually not looking forward to it either. : O No offense but it seems like IX plus XII combined. I like the characters of IX but that plot bored me to death. Same goes for XII I played it, sucked really badly and I really dont get the story. And what's up with this crystal stuff, seems alot like FFIX to me. But I'm getting pretty bored with the new FF games(not talking about kh though) after X the games just started to suck, in my opinion of course, FFXII lame DoC lamer X-2 lamest... dramallama

I actually have liked what I seen from XII so far from XII, like Lunar said it's a breath of fresh air. I mean I could say the same about VII for being the first to deviate from the traditional FF themes that existed from I-VI, it's not that it was a bad game but it just didn't feel like a Final Fantasy to those who had been following the series. I'll play it and give it a chance before shooting it down but to be honest I have my doubts.

Hey, I for one am looking forward to it. (Especially the battle system biggrin ) I was a bit irked when they revealed the plots. True, no originality there....and with the crystals and all. Still, I'm looking forward to a new female heroine. (Though....she seems a lot like Cloud....like...impassive face...quite and cold.) And the Prince dude....I admit that his role is....dull. The "last survivor" thing got old long ago, haha. Even so, the trailers got me excited. biggrin

Sorry....but I hate Ashe. She's a mean, spoiled princess, bossy too. sweatdrop And she doesn't even look very attractive...and her skirt is even shorter than Tifa's.

I am looking forward to it. I wasn't exactly dissapointed with XII but I am glad they are moving the series into a more futuristic setting. I am not a huge fan of a medieval or steampunk setting, so the cyberpunk setting appeals to me.
About the whole Lightning issue, Nomura was asked to create a female Cloud, he probably wanted to create something new and fresh but the higher ups realize that Cloud is indeed, one of the most popular main characters in any video game, so of course they realize his style will defiantly attract those who were fans of his.
Back to the topic: FFXIII looks fresh, a combination of futuristic techology with magic, I do acknowledge that the story isnt anything fresh, but if it's executed right I won't honestly care. Then again XII wasn't anything revolutionary in the storyline department either.
And the gameplay? That's the main force on why I want this. Being able to do Advent Children style moves in battle? If they pull it off right, it will be very fun. Also from what I understand, party based gameplay is coming back, so a game that I can actually control, and not just have two AI characters supporting my lead.
Right now, I do not think there is anything that can kill the hype, I just wish Square would release a playable demo, or a new trailer. It's been in production for five years now.
As for the comments about FF being more realistic. That is just going for Versus, I believe FFXIII will have plenty of fantasy in it's futuristic setting. Versus is I believe 'a fantasy based on reality' or something like that.

Yeah, Versus is more realistic...they even have modern cars driving down the highway. eek
Yes, the gameplay is the only reason why I'm so hyped about it. (And the graphics.....gameplay and graphics go hand in hand for me!) I'm hoping the gameplay will be as great as it looks...they say that how the system works when you input command, the battle slows down for you to make a decision. Now, that will get repetitive so I'm not sure how I'm going to take it.
