Island of Moreau Vice Captain
|

On the Northwest edge, the Island itself seems to stretch itself upwards to the sky, forming a massive mountain. Given the island nature, it is likely that it is a long-dormant volcano and in fact the source of the Island itself. The jungle climbs about halfway up the mountain until even it gives up and tapers off, only the most stubborn of trees stretching higher to the bare summit. One side of the mountain forms a gentle slope, the other, the side that Moreau's Mansion perches, is steep and unforgiving, sharp rocks and a long fall awaiting the climber who is not sure of their skills.

A rustling sound preceded her, some breath of wind that moved the jungle trees, and her feelings followed her- relentless in their desires to cling and dwell to the girl. She'd walked for hours- circles, mostly, through the jungle and along the sandbar, skirting the edge of the open water before descending back into the darkness of the trees where she knew she would be alone.
It was dark, it was cold, and the fur on Emelyn's arms stood at attention to every sound and sensation that the jungle brought, but she ignored them all, and tried instead to focus her thoughts on something- anything pleasant. As she climbed up the gentle slope of the mountain, however, following the line of trees that climbed with her- she could only think of one thing. She was still alive, and was basically unharmed. Her body was healthy enough to allow her to climb in misery up the mountain, to afford her some means towards solitude and peace. Unfortunately, she knew she would have traded mental clarity for that of the body at any moment, were she given the chance to make that choice.
She wasn't going to let herself think of Ambrose- or of Moreau, or Mizzie or The Dude. She wasn't... she repeated to herself, the words narrowly escaping her breath as she came upon an outcropping of rock sticking forth from the slope. She climbed onto it, her claws scratching the surface as she got a good grip. It was a flat, cool protrudance, and she felt protected there, wrapping her arms about her knees as if to draw them into her chest.

Joliette was oblivious to the fact that someone was ahead of her, she had her tripod over her shoulder held by it's strap and her camera bag on her hip, a tongue sticking out one corner of her mouth she picked her way up the gentle slope of hte mountain. She had thought perhaps she could get some nice photographs if she was above the treeline. so wearing one of her few outfits... needless to say they were all nearly identical, and her hair tied back in a scrunchie, she moved forward

She'd only just situated herself on the overhang when she made out the faint sound of someone coming through the treeline- those subtle sounds of footprints on rock and the rustling of fallen leaves. Em was not afraid, but her senses still went on alert, and she called into the jungle with a low voice, hoping it wasn't Ambrose.
"Hello? Someone there?"

Joliette stopped and blinked looking up ahead of her "Hello?" she replied back, the voice sounded lightly familiar but she wasn't certain, she'd met so many people and many of them only once. She slowly moved further forward

Em narrowed her eyes in the dim light, and could pretty much see exactly the form that stood a number of paces beneath her. That, coupled with the accent on the hello, gave Em an exact mark on who it was. She only hoped she remembered the name correctly. She scrounged for a moment, before she remembered the accented pronunciation, and it came back to her.
"Joliette. Hello. We met once- I told you where the laundryroom was. ....Emelyn."

Joliette was quiet for a moment, at least long enough to place a face with the name "Oh! Hello, I hope I did not disturb you" she said walking closer being certain to keep her footing as she moved across the rocks

"Not at all," Em said, sliding forward on the smooth, cool surface so she could see the woman better through the darkness. "I'm just up here for the view." She spied the tripod Joliette carried with her. "I assume you are as well." She smiled, but then realized that Joli probably couldn't see her at all. She was just a disembodied voice floating through the night.

"Yes, I figured I'd get some nice pictures if I went above the treeline" she confirmed Emelyn's statement looking around for some hint that she wasn't imagining hte voice and talking to herself, after all she wouldn't put it past herself to do that, she'd dont it on more then one previous occasion

She saw the woman looking around, and guessed the source of her search.
"I'm sorry," Em said, scooting even farther forward so her legs dangled off the low overhang. "I keep forgetting that others don't have my nightvision. I'm about... ten paces up, and slightly to your right. On an outcropping of rock. You can probably see it when you get a little more out of the trees."

Joliette looked in the direction of the instructions, she could barely make out the legs as she stepped out of hte treeline, she squinted and then reached into her bag and pulled out a lense, not hte camera just the lense and peered through it, it was one of her night-vision lenses, it hadn't been what she intended to photograph with but it let her see the source of he voice better. She smiled "Ok I'm not talking to myself then" she chuckled and walked slowly closer making sure to keep her footing

Em smiled- she'd gotten that feeling herself, before. "Not hardly. ...I'm surprised there's anyone up here at this hour. ...Actually," she corrected, shifting her legs to afford her more comfort, "I'm actually astounded that any of us here on the island keep bashing into each other on this island. Have you been through the place? It's immense. And yet the thirty-odd of us always seem to find one another. ...How many have you met now?"

Joliette stopped near Emelyn and turned to look over hte isle "Including the git and the female in teh labcoat who I have yet to truely meet... about..." she stopped to count on her fingers for a moment" ...18 I think, give or take" She went quiet for a moment "Wow this pleace really is huge, looks larger from here even then it did from the yacht before I came close"

"Oh, you came in a yacht?" Em said, interested. "Then we have something in common. ...Although truly, a motor yacht is hardly a real yacht. It's more like a trawler. Was it your own personal boat?"

"Yeah I did, but it wasn't my own, it was rented" she said with a sigh "I'm just very glad I dont have to see what my credit rating is right now.. It's about 3 days overdue for return. Nice boat though the Princess was" she moved to sit on the edge of hte outcropping Emelyn was on
