Mia had lived in the Pridelands all her life. She'd been rather secluded, lived a dreamy life, away from the noise of her brothers and sisters. She was very much a daddies little girl, her mother died when she was just a cub and she could barely remember the whole incident.

Sometimes, when the stars were out, Mia and her father Mahiri would sit on the dry grass, as they did when she was small, and he would share his stories, his wisdom. He was an ageing lion now, and the pain and also love of a few tender moments were shown clearly in his expression as he spoke. He spoke of his beautiful lioness, how she was still here, but her spirit was watching from the stars.

Mia had only been young when she began her obsession with numbers, but her thirst for knowlege and energy grew as she turned into a happy juvenile, however her socialising skills never really peaked. The beautiful lioness had grown well, learnt to hunt and was now a young adult. Her chocolate coat wasn't badly groomed and her face was brightened with a cream and tan mask.

The night was cool, and she was thankful for his, breathing quietly she stretched out across the ground, alone and content. She counted, holding her breath for every other count and then letting go with a deep sigh. Amoungst the tall grass, the lioness lay, her large cream and tan paws batting at the grass out of instinct as she relaxed.

Ghilt was still tiny, still a cub. Huffing, he stretched, his black spotted pelt warmed by hte sun above. Dual colored eyes peered around as he flicked his white tuft on hte end of his tail. He was bored today, so many things had happened, meeting Grandma, being with his mom. He loved his mother so, even at such a young age, he was extremely protective of his family.

His family.

No one else's.

Sauntering about in hte tall grasses Ghilt headed towards hte water hole, counting his steps out loud, then repeating, "One, two three...four.." over and over again.

Mia's ears twitched at the sound of numbers, her maroon eyes shifting to see a black figure against the dark of the night. A tiny fuzzy figure, but his voice captured her attention. Rolling up from her position on the ground her voice softly whispered to follow his lead. "Five, Six, Seven, Eight." She peered inquisitively into the dark, eyes wide.

"Who's there?"

Ghilt swiveled his ears and stopped, seeing a figure not that far away, from his distance, they looked larger, but then again, it could be a silly trick of his dual colored eyes, perhaps taking two different things and mixing them together. Hmm. Flicking his tail he pounced forward, testing the other, seeing if they would notice, and then he did it again, and again, until he was behind them and he grinned, keeping low, watching, waiting.

Counting? Why counting?

Hmm.

But he stayed quiet.

She saw a cub, a cub as dark as the night, but as faint as a blur as he pounced fowards. Looking a little confused, Mia peered fowards. Was he hiding? He moved again. And a few more times until he was behind her. Being smart, and his pelt being more obvious amoungst the dry grasses, she turned and smiled. Cocking her head, she moved a little closer, lowering her tone to be soft and soothing, she had a love of cubs. "Hello?"

Ghilt peered up at her with dual colored eyes and he hopped backwards, then stood tall with her head held high, tail still behind him as he puffed out his chest in an attempt to look bigger when compared to the female before him. Female, but not his mother, he loved his beloved mother truly. Who was this? She was not mom...no, not indeed.

"Hello, I am Ghilt," he said with a smile, a smirk even, watching her with green and gold hues together.

She looked different from those he had met since.

He certainly was sweet. Very small, black, but with a few darker markings. He had the most amazing eyes, eyes of two different colours. One was a green and the other a topaz gold. She lowered her body in order to reach his level more, he seemed quite confident, certainly more confident that she was as a cub, perhaps even now. She smiled gently. "Hello there Ghilt." She began, her tail winding its way round her back legs. "I am Mia."

"Mia," he said, letting it roll off his tongue as if a test of her name, of herself, but he was so small, so tiny, he couldn't have a say or affect anyone really being so small, but he would grow, and everyone would know his name one day! "I like it, Mia, Mia, Mia," he said with a smile, closing his eyes, memorizing her scent, her speech, she was...different, definitely not mother.

"What is Mia doing all alone?" shouldn't she be with someone, like her own cubs or mommy?

Mothers were the sole foundation of happiness and family.

Least...he thought so.

She smiled as he told her he liked her name, and complimented his own. "I think Ghilt is a very nice name!" His reference to herself in third person was just adorable, and she stifled a laugh. Children were so sweet, so unpredictable, and some of them, Ghilt being an example of such, were so bold. "I'm an adult." She guessed this was pretty obvious by her sheer size compared to him, so smiled and elaborated. "I'm allowed out on my own, although I do spend time with my family, so I don't like to spend too much time being alone." She looked at the horizon and continued, taking an oppertunity to educate the young black lion.

"You see, not everyone has a pride. Not everyone has a family." Her maroon eyes looked sad for a moment. "Some lions spend their whole life alone, with no real home, no one to talk to, in lonliness." Mia felt sorry for such lions, it must be heartbreaking to live like that. "But there are some lions, and even if they have no family, they travel to knew places, explore and socialise, and sometimes even find someone and start a family, so they aren't lonely anymore." She remembered that her mother, Bakhti had been a rogue, before coming to the Pridelands where she met Mahiri. Her mother certainly had turned her life around, produced a large family and been happy at most times, it was sad, the way she was shunned of life by such a vicious lioness.

But Mia tended not to think about that.

Not everyone? Well, in Ghilt's cub opinion, that was stupid. Everyone should have a home, not just..not have one. He wriggled his nose and pawed at the ground, "Your so big that you can do whatever you want," Ghilt said with a smile, getting off the subject of the stupid ones with no home. Though, stupid wasn't the right word, something else, but he was still too young to understand it completely.

"Do you like to play games? Or do you just walk round? I don't see many big lions play, least not lately," his mommy played with him.

Oh how he adored her.

"I supposed I'm a little old for games." she admitted, half saddened by this fact. "I talk to people, and hunt of course, like all lionesses." Her hunting skills weren't spectacular, but they fed her and her father occasionally. "I would play games if I had someone to play them with." She said gently. "My brothers and sisters are all adults, but I remember the time I played with them when I was young." Yes, she remembered those days well.

Ghilt stuck his tongue out at her had huffed, his chest puffing out just slightly so. Flicking his tail he shook his head. "Even if your old, aren't you supposed to have some fun anyway?" If getting old meant you couldn't play and have fun, then forge that, he'd stay a cub. But he wanted to grow old and strong, have his mother be proud of him Yes, mother, he loved her so. "They should still play with you, I play with what I can find, I don't have any brothers or sisters. If you do, you should play with them, you never know what happens," he said with a difinitive nod.

He was so right.

Wasn't he?

Wriggling his nose he started walking away, but stopped, he forget to say why. Dumb things to remember t do, everyone should know everything! "I have to go find my mommy, I will see you later Mia, and you BETTER play with someone," he said with a laugh, a smirk like a cub would ave painted on their maw.

And he darted off, black into green, on the search for his mommy.

His, no one else's.

She nodded at him sweetly and said goodbye, and just like that, the little black cub was gone. Mia was left staring into the distance as he shot off, watching fondly with an amused smile. Brothers and sisters, that reminded her to talk to her own more, she needed to visit them, infact, she needed to visit father. Maybe she would later. Laughing at the wonder and innocence of children, she padded through the shade and to her home.
