our drum major forgets to do a horns up for the lowbrass in one of the songs, fever, and our secction leader yells"get your horns up now or ill slap the piss out of you all" it looked like a domino effect when we brought our horns up which helped us.

I think I had that happen once.
And as a Drum Major, I have spontaneously forgotton which horns up I should do (we have a few different ones), but I've always remembered before too long.
I'd suggest getting your section leader and section to work out your own horns up. At a certain beat in the music, bring your horns up (slowly, quickly, in a wave, whatever works for you). That way, you can tell the DM not to worry about giving a horns up.

In our drill the horns don't go down unless it's a drum break. So we don't worry about horns up in the drill, we cover that when the director decides to put a horns down there. We like to show off our drum line. Last year (when we did Drum Song by Earth Wind and Fire) we showed off our Pit, we had beautiful silent drill for that.

We put our instruments down once in our show, after the first song. Your arms kind of hurt after ten minutes of holding it up.

we never had a horns up because we keep the beat in our head so we all ways know when to do it. so i would never know how that feels

The band is really mean to our drum majors. They forget horns up and we yell as you were. My section all ways adds idiot at the end, because the drum major is one of our own.

The only time my horn is down is during the second song when its just woodwinds.... we choose when it goes down and up....
Our DM doesn't even call horns up at the beginnings of songs.... its all decided at the beginning of band camp....
there IS a horns up called before the national anthem... but, we just put the horns up like we do in the show if the DM forgets...

We had our DM forget to do attention one time XD I'm in a military marching band, and we start off the drill with our DM (who marches with us) giving us parade rest, attention, horns up, then we get a whistle. Our drum major, my ex boyfriend, forgets to do attention. And at the time, we were either still dating or it was before we started dating and I liked him, and I was right next to him in the drill. So after he did it, he muttered cuss words under his breath, and I looked over to him and told him not to worry about it, and then we went on with the drill. XD Looked like s**t, but luckily, we didn't watch that video the Monday afterwards XD

That happened once.
At a competition.
Apparently, it was a GOOD ripple, so it was okay.
We got a really low score though.
I think a four.

My drum major always forgot to call us to attention right before the anthem and we had two huge lines across the football field of domino effect.

Our field commander did a horns down when she wasn't supposed to. AT BANDMASTERS. It looked like crap. Surprisingly, we won grandchampions anyway. It was funny, cuz my mom was zoomed in on me with her video camera (which was illegal to have inside the stadium), and she caught me saying "oh my f***ing god...."

it was funny how we were like : "D: ah! *rushes to catch up*"
but he always just cursed then told us to start over. xD
