The cheetah was looking thinner, or maybe it was because he had finally reached adulthood. He paused in the shade of a huge boulder, leaning against it gratefully. For the first time since he had left home, Pekee was beginning to feel as if he might not be able to go on.

His desire to find his purpose in life had driven him this far but now, now the question itself was losing it's meaning and he hardly knew why he journeyed anymore. He sighed and his body quivered from fatigue. How long was it since he'd seen another face? Spoken to another? How long was it that he hadn't had a conversation with himself.

In fact, conversing with the little voices in his head had become common practise.

"Stupid voices..."

But who else was there?

Loneliness, hunger and fatigue was wearing him down. He was too tired to be grouchy, too tired to be anything. Maybe he'd just lay down and sleep for a while. Get some rest and he'd sure to feel better the following morning. Yes, that sounded like a good idea. And slowly the young cheetah lay down, cradling his weary head on dusty paws.

It's very interesting what life brought along.
Today it would bring the bright white cheetah a very strange little creature of a very familiar candy coloured pink and with a very cheerful song to her young voice.
As the young hybrid investigated and explored her southland home for the umpteenth time, it wasn't particularly hard to notice a white being laying behind her favourite boulder.
So ofcourse, like any young creature, she had to see what it was!

She almost skipped towards the boulder before jumping on, soft sky blue eyes peering down at the slender creature as she cocked her head to the side and blinked.
This creature was very familiar in physique to her mother Shairi, so she felt even more curious to know what and who it was!

"Hello." She greeted happily. "How're you today?"

"Depressed." He huffed, drew in a deep breath and was about to close his eyes when he realised that the voice had not been the one in his head. Surprised out of his skin, the gangly cheetah scrabbled to his feet and lifted his head comically upwards, bright green eyes seeking the stranger that had snuck up on him.

"What do you think you're doing up there?" He flicked his fluffy tail back and forth, his sides quickly rising and falling. Her vivid pelt had taken him by surprise. Pink wasn't a colour he came across very often, in fact he couldn't remember the last time...no, wait...yes he could.

"You're from the jungle. Why does pink always come from the jungle?" He muttered, assuming that this was one of those pink cats he had met in that horrible place. "Brilliant." The words were so miserable and he sat, stooped his shoulders and let his whiskers droop. "Why are you bothering me? Why did you leave those wonderful trees?"

Hidaya was quite suprised by the reaction she recieved, laying on the boulder casually as she watched him curiously and cocked her head to the side.
This guy got stranger and curiouser by the moment.

"I like sitting up on this boulder to watch the sunset every afternoon." She said softly.
"And you just happened to be here, so I thought I'd say hello."

A simple question allowed for a simple answer as her bright chippery smile remained on her muzzle.
At his last words she couldn't help but giggle.

"I'm not from the jungle, I was born near the ocean!" She said happily, laying there and watching him intently as she then wondered about his earlier words.
The little female then jumped down next to him, not caring if he was dangerous or not and smiling towards him.
"And why are you depressed?"

He wrinkled his nose and let his head raise higher to the sky. Sunset? Why would she want to watch that? When the sun went away everything got dark and darkness was quite scary when one was all alone.

"Why would you want to see that?" He replied. "Sunsets only mark another day lost. Another day closer to death." He let his tail droop until it touched the ground.

Why was she smiling like that? What was wrong with her? He took a small step back so he didn't have to strain his neck so much looking at her. Somehow he couldn't drag his eyes from her pink pelt. "My mistake then. I thought pink things came from the jungle." Though he had only ever met one "pink thing" briefly before.

At her last question he hesitated, frowning. "Because, there's no reason for my existance, that's why."

The female cocked her head, smile momentarily gone for a look of childish curiousity before she looked back to the reddening sky as if the endless blue had given birth to flames and spurts of gold.
So watching it, it wasn't long before her smile returned and she turned back to him.

"True." She started. "But it means the birth of the night...and coming closer to the birth of a brand new day."

Her voice was very happy and soft, almost like she was singing the words before she giggled at his 'pink things coming from the jungle' comment and stretched her paws out happily over the barely sun kissed face of the boulder.
As she lay there, his next choice of words she perked her ears curiously and then blinked at him.

"That's not true, everything has a reason for being here...sometimes the path to it just isn't clear to it, my daddy told me that."

He huffed and thwapped his tail against the ground. "Every day is the same, it's just reborn again and again, catching us in a never ending cycle." He wrinkled his nose thoughtfully. What had his parents taught him? Not much considering he hardly stayed with them for long. Ss a cub he had wandered away from them at every opportune moment, relying on them only for food, now that he was an adult he couldn't get enough distance between himself and the cheetahs that were like clones of himself.

Or was he a clone of them?

He shuddered and drew in on himself. "I've been looking and it's still not any clearer. I've been looking since I was just a little 'un. Maybe some are just born without a purpose of any sort."

Then, curiously, he continued. "Have you found your reason for existance?" Maybe he was just looking in all the wrong places.

The little female watched him curiously as he spoke, his words of the never ending cycle which was the sun made her think of Zeki and what he said about the Circle of Life, a smaller, comforted smile coming to her muzzle and she continued to listen to him.
She cocked her head to the side as he spoke of some being born without a purpose and she shrugged her shoulders slightly, muscle and bone moving under the soft pink fur as she did.

"But even if you don't have a purpose that dosen't mean you shouldn't enjoy the fact we're alive." She said happily.

His question caught her slightly and she had to really think, squareing her jaw in thought before she shook her head.

"Nope, not yet, I don't really mind if I have a purpose or not."

"B-but, if you don't have a purpose, what is the point of living? What gets you up in the morning? What drives you to keep on living?" He shook his head, ears and tail drooping. He was missing something, surely he was! But he didn't know what. "I don't understand. How can we enjoy that we are alive when being alive is pointless?"

He stood and looked to her, pleadingly, with his bright green eyes. His eyes bore all his sadness in them and now they pleaded with her to answer him.

"Sorry." He apologised grudgingly. "Forget I said anything. I'm too far gone to be helped now anyway, no one wants to know me and I don't blame them. I'm pitiful." He stood, turned his gangly body as if he had made up his mind to leave. He hesitated, however, and glanced in the other direction, unsure where he should be going.

Then, slowly, he turned his eyes up to the pink female again, expectant, though not sure what for.

Hidaya's eyes widened slightly at his questions, raising up on her hackles before she looked into his sad eyes and her brows furrowed with worry and pity.
She was about to say something before his second set of words interupted her, eyes widening before she jumped down as he looked back up at her, so small beside him even as a juve...maybe it was because he was just older.

"But don't you see?" She started. "Life in itself is amazing, being alive, being here...don't you think it's astounding that creatures like us are able to just be here when everything else here is so simple."

She didn't really know how to explain this and then looked around at the grass, moving towards it before she nosed a yellowed blade gently.

"Look at the grass, it looks really simple dosen't it? Just a long, thin leaf...yet if you slash it, or take it out the ground, it'll keep growing and growing...everything might seem simple and pointless, but, that dosen't mean you can't appreciate the fact that it's just amazing we ended up here at all." She ended, taking a deep breath before she waited to see what his reaction would be.

"I guess, after being alone so long, you tend not to notice." He watched the grass waving gently in the breeze. He tended not to notice much anymore. All he saw was his own pitiful paws scuffing across the dust-covered ground.

He sighed. "I guess I never notice anything much." His world was dark, dismal, there was always a raincloud hovering over his head, shadowing the world he walked in. He rarely lifted his head to glance around, had almost forgotten what the sky looked like.

"You're right I guess. Life is pretty amazing when you think about it. How it works and shapes and changes..." He glanced at Hidaya, was forced to see the colours of the world in her brilliant pelt. A muscle in his face twitched, a muscle that may have turned into a smile if he knew how.

"I'm Pekee'dunia by the way." He flicked his tail. "But you can call me Pekee if you want. No point wasting time with my full name."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2008 7:03 am

The young female looked on curiously, the look of worry disapearing as she saw the muscle on his face twitch and her facial features formed a smile once more, with her well used muscles.
It only grew all the more as he seemed to become more optimistic and let the tuft on the end of her tail play gently with the grass.

"My names Hidaya." She said simply, smiling at him as her soft, sky blue eyes looked over his form.
"It's nice to meet you, Pekee'dunia." Using his full name, it was apparent by the the look on her face that she didn't see it as a waste of time using his full name.
She was always taught by her parents that it was polite to say one's full name on a first meeting, than use shorter variations as you got closer.
That's why momma called her father Zimwi' instead of his full name.

"You should take the time to look at the world around you and not assume it's pointless." She said happily, watching him as she sat there opposite the pale cheetah.

(( Hidaya is so beautiful LSX ;o; congrats! ))

"It's nice to meet you too." He replied quietly, thoughfully. Maybe she was right, maybe he had been looking at this all the wrong way. Maybe it was just his seclusion, the feeling that he wasn't unique nor special that had made him so...so miserable.

He seemed happy that she had used his full name and for the first time in his whole life, Pekee purred. It was quiet and brief but it had been there all the same, for that one little instant.

"I'll...I'll try." He replied. Strange, that even though he was older than her, it seemed to be she who was far more experienced in the world. She who was guiding and teaching him.

"Hidaya...where are you going? I mean...were you planning to go somewhere before you ran into me?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2008 9:27 am

((Thanks Kimmy *luffs her so majorly* ;w; heart ))

Hidaya felt that she had done right.

It was a wonderful feeling, it was a feeling of acomplishment and that in itself was a great feeling, like you were walking on air for a few seconds before being brought back down to earth.
And the feeling grew as he returned the pleasentry along with saying he would try to look at things in a new light.

Yes, accomplishment was a wonderful feeling.

She'd also felt she'd made a good friend as he started a new question this time, corners of her mouth seeming to be permanently in a sweet, sensitive little smile and she blinked at his question.

"I told you before, I came to watch the sunset...would you like to watch with me?" She asked, moving back to the boulder as she jumped up and gently patted an empty part of it in an invitation for him to join her.

He looked sheepish, flattened his ears. He had forgotten. Well, he wasn't awfully good at remembering things, his mind almost constantly switching and changing to other thoughts. "Oh...yes, so you were."

And with a change of heart, he agreed, clambering clumsily up onto the boulder to sit tentatively beside her.

Then, raising his head to the sky, he tried his best to see it. To truly see it for once. He saw the colours, the studs of faint stars that would soon be blazing with white fire. He felt peaceful for once, almost warm from looking at such a wonderufl array.

And then he had a sudden change of opinion.

Maybe the sunset didn't mark another day lost, the end of an era. Maybe it meant something new, that with each new day he'd be given another chance to make something of himself. It brought hope.

"Hidaya." He said after a moment. "You're right. Thank you." And his eyes were glossy with tears. "The world...it doesn't look so dark anymore."
