What is your favorite book?
No need for big-a** fonts and smiley overload, kthxbai. - Razor.
P.S. And what is your favorite book? If you don't want others to know, others may not want to tell you, either.
I changed a few things in this topic because I want it to be a sticky. -cynn

Isaac Asimov's novels. All of them. But if I have to pick a favorite, it's Nightfall.
Awesome novel about an alien world that's never seen the night (they don't even have a word for it,) and where some scientists make a frightening discovery, as once every two thousand years, the suns all hide in one side of the planet, bringing The Nightfall out (and which had, from their research, brought the end of civilization once and again for millenia.)
Their surprise is, everyone (or at least those that believe in science) get ready for complete darkness, but when the suns leave, well, let's just say they're in a very dense cluster of their galaxy, and hence instead of sunlight they're exposed to the cold light of a million stars.
What happens then? Major mind ********, and you can guess what follows.
Why do I like it? Asimov always had an easy, almost friendly way to get the reader into the characters' minds, and in this book, you can almost feel the fear and madness they go through when they finally face Nightfall.
Next would be the Foundation saga (several books, I know six of them,) and the Robots saga (which include I, Robot and Bicentennial man,) which are, at the same time, interweaved into one single, amazingly long saga (of which I've only read about fifty percent, as the books are hard to find, even online.)
Asimov is, to me, the best writer ever. Too bad he's been dead for a while.
Oh, btw, those cheap-a** robot movies you see here and there? Asimov invented half the terminology used in them. Just so you see what impact the guy had in modern culture. wink

my faveorite books are the war of the spider queen series. all of them were edited by R.A. Salvatore, and they were each written by a different author. now the individual authors are writing sequal trilogies.

Are we talking literature or Graphic Novels?
If its literature then anything by William Gibson. The dude pretty much invented cyberpunk and without him you'd be living a life without so many sci fi films.
If were talking about comic books then anything by Masumune Shirow. This one guy created Ghost in The Shell, Appleseed, Dominion Tank Police and black magic Mario M-66. The guy is a frikkin' genius!
so sez me, lol.

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. It's a really good book if you can get past the language (meaning olde english not profanities)

Even though I am a straight A student and top in class, I am kind of ashamed to admit that my favourite books are Vampire Knight mangas. Most straight A students would prefer you know... textbooks.

"A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen" series. Awesome fantasy, told mostly from a humorous military viewpoint. Written by Steven Erikson.
"The Moonworld saga" by Sean McMullen. Funny fantasy. Worth reading.
Anything by Terry Pratchett, namely Discworld, but including "Good Omens". The apocalyspe has never been funnier, indeed.
And, finally, John Ringo. Military science fiction with great, if somewhat twisted humor and very many explosions. The Legacy of the Aldenata series is great reading. Also check out "Watch on the Rhine." Rejuvenated Waffen SS fighting aliens. There's one, ONE Nazi in the book and no one likes him.
