Historical Abductions
Abduction Historically, and the Phenomenon of Recovered Memory
The current focus on the abduction phenomenon occasionally points to historical abduction stories as proof of alien abduction in history, or as proof of a paranormal thread running throughout human contact with the unknown. In looking closer at this phenomenon, by analyzing the commonalities in tales, and their differences as well, it might be possible to tease out various causes for these tales beyond the sleep paraylisis theory. By applying various hypotheses against the common framework and similiarities, one may arrive at a plausable and potentially verifiable theory of the cause and source of complex abduction tales.

The source listed above details a historical and psychological account of reported supernatural or paranormal abductions, and how they might be linked to sleeping or mental disorders. I stumbled across it and thought it would be an excellent topic for discussion.
When I have a bit more time and not so much stuff on my plate, more of my research and thoughts on this will go into this post (I'm working on two well-developed roleplaying threads right now and it's getting insane the amount of research I'm doing). Right now, this will have to do until I can get around to it.
Oh, and before you wiseacres decide to post a bunch of "personal experiences" or debate crap on the existence of these abductions, this isn't the place for it. Experiences go in Personal Experiences subforum, and debates go into either the Long Debates subforum or the main forum.
Please discuss:
The different types of abduction (switching, experimentation, kidnapping, child kidnapping or switching, body snatching or possession, etc.),
The different entities that are supposed to participate in these abductions (faeries, demons, aliens, etc),
Any research information, etc.

Its an interesting topic.

I'd like to note the different entities that "appear" during sleep paralysis. In the early period, when religion was widely accepted, Incubi and Succubi were at blame. Then, towards the middle period, when many things in cryptozoology and the UFO scene were happening, sleep paralysis had effects of visitations from odd beings and aliens. In the modern period, people are being abducted by extraterrestrials, and I'd like to stress the fact that many of these abductions contain the individual going through walls/doors and/or floating. My point is that it appears as if happenings in society have an affect on the effects of sleep paralysis. A mass psychosis?

In my opinion, there's three (Maybe more) theories that can be possible, some of which can be linked:

1. Sleep paralysis is the cause and explanation of Abduction

2. Sleep paralysis is an effect of Abduction

3. An effect of sleep paralysis is a reflection of the current oddity in society

I'll state what I said above: These can be linked. It is proven that SP could, in many cases, provide an explanation for abduction. But then what about the cases of Betty and Barney Hill and Antonio Villas Boas? Much more research should go into SP.

Sleep and mental disorders do not explain many other aspects of the abduction phenomenon, such as scoop marks, missing time, implants, ect.

I remember a study was done on abductees, without telling the researchers what they were, and they tested psychologically normal with a couple of trust and security issues.

Alien Agenda by Jim Marrs has very interesting abduction cases.....it's also a great read. Extremely interesting. I recommend it.

From what I've heard, I think its safe to say that most "abductions" are done without harmful intent. Many abductions are performed by our "Star-brothers" who seem to always come in peace. Or at least they put up the image that we aren't forced to cooperate with them.

Ive read Alien Agenda, and it does have its own interesting perspective.

It seems while some "abductions or "experiences" appear to be with the consent of the individual as well as cooperation, there are many others that are repeatedly committed against the abductee's wishes and desires, and often cause the abductee stress.

Whatever the true nature of alien abduction, whether psychological, physical, or metaphysical in nature, there are so many varying opinions on the matter that no one really has grasped exactly what is going on.

Well, like I said in my other post.....perhaps they're just creating an image of free will? Let us think about this. They spend time and energy abducting us. We're already in the ship/vessel. You think if we said "no", they would just put us back? Many abductors seem gentle, calm, and nice - creating an ultimate picture of a non-hostile, free will-giving entity.

The only way I know of discovering the "truth" is by Remote Viewing (This method is used in Alien Agenda).

Remote viewing is a way of retrieving information, if you will. You can "go" to any location in the past, present, or the future, and it seems as if the distance between you and your target doesn't matter. I say its one of the best ways to find out the truth in things because information retrieved via RV is unaffected by human judgment (Though this can be argued). Anyone can learn it, with enough dedication. If used properly, seers can see the true purpose of abductions. I don't know how to do it (yet), and anyone who can should definitely try looking into abductions.

Hahahaha....serves them right. xp

The closest I've ever come to this topic was when I had a nightmare of an evil being pinning me down to my bed and when I woke up I had what I think was sleep paralysis for a good 10 seconds. (I guess it could be classified as an attempted possession. >_>)
