Bly laughed out loud and looked at his relection in a river. "You are very handsom." he said and laughed more. Bly knew that he could never tell a lie. So he had to be beautiful. He didn't really care though. He trotted off away from the water to explore more. He pretended he was leading a herd and gallantly protected them all from a mountain lion. (Which in truth happened to be an unlucky rock.) He stood proudly, puffing out his chest and holding up his chin. In his imagination his herd cheered for him. He stood high on a hill(Yet another rock actually) and listened to their praise. But he came smashing back to reality when he slipped off the hill(rock). Bly looked around to see no one cheering for him and sighed. Oh well.

Racing across the meadow Caelyndei giggled, repeatedly leaping at the large shadow of a soaring hawk overhead. She tripped and tumbled. Rolled and dived completely uncoordinated and lacking the same charm and grace as her siblings or her lovely mother, but it never seemed to the foal. Chasing the silhouette that glided smoothly across the ground the sun warmed her back, despite the winter air being nippingly cold. Eve had told her that if she caught the shadow of a hawk it would give her wings and she would be able to fly like the Wind and Alicorn Soquili.

So of course, her naive sister had rushed out and begun to follow along behind the first raptor she'd seen. Who would have guessed they would have been so hard to catch? Following the Red Tail in dizzying circles and curvy lines all around Caelyndei barely had the chance to notice Bly before she ran right into the young colt.

Bly had not noticed Caelyndei until, "Oof." he toppled over to the ground taking her with him. "What the--Caelyndei!" he said surprised to see her. Then he realized how ungrown he looked simply laying on the ground. He got up and instantly puffed out his chest. But this time he couldn't hold his breath long enough to keep it out. So he let it out slowly and smoothly so she wouldn't notice much. "What'cha doin'?" he asked curiously and bent down to offer to help her up.

It got dark for a few seconds and he looked up to see a hawk. Those birds scared him yet intrigued him. Pa had always said that if you stayed out in the open they would swoop down and carry you to the tree tops. Of course it had been a story made up to keep Bly home, but the colt didn't know that. He shivered and kept his eyes planted on that bird. If it came near him or Caely he'd...What would he do?

Caely was glad to hear surprise instead of anger in Bly's voice when he greeted her from their collision induced entanglement, giggling sheepishly. She was growing steadily more accustomed to running into friends and family and lacked any sort of startled expression to have fallen still so suddenly. Of course, embarrassment and startling were two different emotions as she watched him rise quickly and puff out his chest the way he had a habit of doing in her presence. Bly!

The paint foal squee'ed cherrily, cocking her head as she stared at him from her back. She found that it made her dizzy and cross-eyed to try and focus on him upside down though, rolling onto her belly to give her soft, brown coat a little shake stirring a cloud of dust with the action. I was..

She began to answer but paused to watch as his gaze lifted with caution towards the large bird, beaming. I was trying to catch its shadow! Wanna help? Maybe if there are two of us we can corner it then we can both pounce it!

Wiggling excitedly at the idea, Caelyndei gingerly lipped at his mane as he aided her back to her hooves, all a rich obsidian color save for one. Looking around she realized that her companion seemed to be a ways off from his family as well, her head cocking puzzledly. What're you doing?

"Wha--Oh...I dunno Cae." he said, his eyes still on the hawk. But then he looked back at her. "I Was...Was...I dunno." He had suddenly forgotten what he had been doing. "Why were you chasing the shadow?" he asked curiously. "Seems silly." he nodded. But then remembering what he was doing he realized that his own little game had been quite silly indeed. Maybe even more silly than her game. He looked back up at the hawk. To him it had gotten even closer and it caused him to shrink a little bit.

"You don't wanna get carried off...Do you?" he asked looking down at her. It was a question that his father would have lingered on and thought about until she answered. But not Bly. He stared at the hawk with a glazed look in his eyes. He slipped into a day dream again, imagining how bravely he would fight for himself and Caelyndei and how she would cheer for him when the hawk was gone or dead.

Looking particularly puzzled for a minute at the fact that Bly seemed so terribly distracted her gaze followed the circling shadow of the bird of prey as she began to answer. 'Cause! Eve said... she said if I could catch it I could fl--

She paused suddenly at his statement, looking abashed. Silly? Caely lowered her ears, turning her head away slightly as she nodded. I.. I guess so. N-No! W-Why would I want that?! A startled cry escaped the little paint filly in surprise at the statement. Large, jade eyes lifting sharply to the large bird above their heads with as wary an expression as her companion, scooting closer to the young colt's side. C-Can it real-really carry us away? What if it comes down here!?

Shifting anxiously upon her hooves she danced in place beside Bly. Eve hadn't told her anything like that. Maybe she had forgotten that hawks scooped up unsuspecting little foals. Or maybe she had expected Caelyndei to already know that.

"Pa said they carry you away to the tree tops if you stay out in the open too much. I never believed him...But it's always possible." It wasn't possible. But Bly didn't know that. "If we get its shadow will it die?" he asked curiously and was now eyeing the great bird's shadow. It seemed an odd way to die. He moved in front of Caely to protect her even though the hawk was above them. He puffed out his chest and glared up at it dramaticly.

He looked at Caelyndei and grinned. "Come down here you big feathery rat and fight me for your shadow!" he yelled up at the thing challenging it to try to take him. The hawk swooped down and Bly flinched. But it was far away and Bly could no longer see it. He didn't know what to think now.

Carried away to the treetops, Caely thought as her imagination was carried away with the thought. She could easily picture herself wriggling in the talons of such a beast. Feel the sharp pain of it's claws clutching her back, starting suddenly as the bird in her mind released her from what could easily be considered a dizzying height for ground walkers like her and Bly. Reeling in flailing as she fell back to earth the unhealthy crunch of her small body hitting the earth brought Caelyndei back to reality with a whimper. Shuffling closer into Bly's side apprehensively. Y-you think... it is? Really... Really really possible?

Die? She shook her tiny white muzzle in surprise, snorting softly. She didn't want to kill anything! And Eve had said nothing about being able to kill such a bird by stomping on it's shadow. I don't know.. m-maybe? Maybe that's how you get to fly? Eve said if you catch its shadow you can fly!

As the copper colt came to stand in front of her protectively, her brows knit with concern. He was brave, but a little foolish to taunt a creature that could supposedly swoop off with them. D-Don't Bly! C'mon... it's gone now, lets go play somewhere else.

Caelyndei tugged gently at his dark, midnight tail encouragingly, her own raven tipped blond tail tucked between her legs nervously. She would have been terribly sad if anything happened to her friend.

Bly looked back at her. "Yeah. Let's go." He nudged her lightly trying to make it seem like he was unhappy to leave. He was very happy to get away though. He didn't want to be there. He lead her into the trees to get them as far away from the bird as he could.

"Well. What do you wanna do?" he asked and curiously stared around himself. He hadn't been here yet. There was lots of rocks, boulders, and trees. It would be a perfect area for his previous game but also the perfect area to twist an ankle. He didn't want to suggest his game to Caely. He didn't know why. He just didn't. He looked around some more then finally sat on his little behind and stared at Caely to wait for an answer. She would know what to play. He was sure of it.

Buffeted by Bly's nose, the paint filly frowned a little at the disappointment in his voice, wondering if she should have let him stay as he seemed to have wished to do. Hurriedly shaking the thought from her mind, she willed herself to remain firm, even if he did want to stay she knew they would be safer if they left well enough alone. So, even if he did become sore at her for suggesting they leave, Caely convinced herself that keeping the colt from being injured was far more important. After all, she wouldn't have known what to do if that hawk had swooped down and scooped him up.

Keeping pace with him her shoulder lingered near his withers, in line with the white stripes upon his backside allowing him to bravely lead their way into the forest which was filled with all sorts of strange new smells. Glancing around the stiff scent of pine filled her nostrils causing her to sneeze unpleasantly and pause when she realized that Bly had stopped minutes ago, hurriedly scurrying back to his side.

There are lots of big rocks here to hide behind. We could play hide and seek! It was almost a daring idea, romping in the unfamiliar forest while hiding from each other, her sleek tail wagging eagerly at the idea, expression inquisitive. She hoped that he wouldn't think it a baby game. Trotting ahead several paces before prancing back with a shy smile. Or we could race!

Bly grinned at her. "That's a great idea! And...let's pretend something dangerous is after us!" he laughed and grew excited. He hid behind a boulder and peeked over it at her. "Well come on, let's get started." he said and scrambled out from behindthe huge rock again. This would be fun. And challenging. The rocks and pebbles on the ground were pretty slippery. He hopped from one rock to the next giggling to himself as he went. "Before we play, you should try this. It's fun!" he said just before slipping. He yelped a little bit and hoped she hadn't noticed. He acted like it hadn't happened and continued hopping.

Y-you really think so? Caely flushed giddily, her tail wagging with excitement at Bly's enthusiasm. He seemed to really like her idea, adding an extra facet to the game to make it all the more interesting. Dangerous? Like what?

The little filly was already springing after her companion, following Bly towards the large bolder he hid behind only to spook and jump backwards as he popped out suddenly, squeaking. Watching him hop from rock to rock the little paint obediently followed, scrambling up onto the nearest stone to follow the small scuffs of the colt's hooves.

Having caught the unsteady slide out of the corner of her eye Caely's jaw hung slack and she nickered softly to him before drawing back the urge to scooter over and check on him. Bly was a boy and he was certainly tough, if he didn't make a fuss of the little accident then she was almost certain the colt was just fine. She'd learned from experience that most foals didn't enjoy being worried over, they certainly got enough of that from their parents, but Caely just couldn't help herself sometimes. A.. Are you aw'right Bly?

He grinned back at her. "I'm ok." he said. He was glad she cared enough to ask but he turned away again to hide his blushing. "Let's pretend a hawk is after us. That's dangerous enough." he stopped hopping from rock to rock and closed his eyes. "One...Two...Three..." He began counting without letting her know that he was the seeker. He peeked only once. "Five...Six...Uhm...What comes after six? Oh yea...Eight...Nine..."

He counted to 20, skipping a few numbers on accident, before opening his eyes and yelling, "Ready or not, here I come!" He snuck in the shadows of large boulders and kept glancing up, watching out for the dangerous hawk that was after them. A few times he thought he had actually seen the terrible thing, but he convinced himself quickly that his imagination was the best in the world.

Listening to the rhythmic counting, Caely's tail twitched to the beat until she realized that she should have been trying to find a place to hide. Squealing laughingly and leaping as her limbs pinwheeled in the air slender limbs were quick to carry her past the counting colt in a flutter of air. She had to find a place to hide before the hawk got her! Sniffing around some bushes the tiny filly popped in and out of various hidey-holes until the last second. As Bly hit twenty she dived into a pile of leaves which had collected over the autumn, gathered there by the wind and unable to move past the trees that blocked their way. Eeep!

With a soft, papery rustle the tiny filly disappeared, all except for the peaking towers of her little ears, holding her breath anxiously as she squinted her eyes shut in a childish manner. Maybe if she couldn't see anything, then nothing could see her as well!!

Bly searched for her but still had to be careful, if the hawk saw him then he was doomed. He looked around and couldn't see her anywhere. What if the hawk had come down and quietly taken her to its nest? He called her name softly not knowing that she wouldn't come out. "Aha!" he said a bit loudly and peeked behind one of the boulders. But she wasn't there. He glanced up again and this time he could've sworn the hawk really had been there. It was there! His eyes widened and he scrambled for a place to hide. Behind the rocks wouldn't work because it could see him from above! Quickly he dove into the pile of leaves. But it seemed it had already been inhabited by..."Caely! How'd you get here?" Bly asked cluelessly.
