Well Which one do you think it is? Which genre doesn't get enough credit? Which genre do most people know nothing about? Which genre had great bands but get over looked by their lesser talented- mainstream brethren?

i think allot of bands with core in them get disrespected....there are allot of decent ones..and its a shame...
just look at this forum...they are categorized as "other metal"

Most bands with core in their name are too 'core' to be considered metal. Though you are right. To name a few we have Converge, Botch, Between The Buried And Me, Boysetsfire, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and All Shall Perish.

Trad. Doom always has been and always will be one of the lesser known genres, but other than Black Sabbath there hasn't been any mainstream bands (only relatively popular).

Heavy Metal is also a very under-appreciated genre. There's plenty of great Heavy Metal that isn't a big name. But for the most part it hasn't really been over run with less talented bands unless you count the "Hair metal" scene, but even then most of the lesser talented bands generally fall on the rock side.

As for stuff that gets over run with less talented bands, that would definitely be metalcore.

I'd say funeral doom. I've seen many people say it's boring and drags on too long, but I think it's beautiful and the funeral pace is perfect.

These pretty much. You will see bands like Judas Priest, Manowar, Iron Maiden, Dio, etc. etc. pop up all the time in coversations, but rarely will you see talk of bands like Omen, Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road, Brocas Helm, and others except among a few small circles. But I don't really mind, in most cases it's these small circles that are usually the ones who actually appreciate the music.

Prog. rock and all its genres are pretty lost among many people. I don't know much about it myself, but I am getting pretty interested in it.

Most people do not think Glam is a form of metal. Though, when I listen to Europe all I can hear is perfectly played guitar solos and amazing riffs, Exact drums and beautiful keyboard arrangements, plus a good singing voice by Joey Tempest. In other words: All I can hear is metal.

As I said, most people dont think its metal, for the escence of it, but musically it is metal in fact. And I think it is very under appreciated.

Peace.

Indeed, I've really been getting into Heavy Metal myself.

As for Prog. it may be under-appreciated, but it's easy to see why. I've been following the tourney and I've found that what I didn't like about prog. at first is now what I'm liking about it. xp

I would have to agree and say Funeral Doom, not too many lovers out there.

I agree with Funeral Doom...I was into it for awhile back in the day.

I don't really agree with Funeral as it's really one of the more popular forms of doom. And It seems like there are so many bands that are just doing mostly the same thing.

I dunno, I think that stoner doom and trad. stuff gets more attention.

Funeral and Death/Doom are the more popular answers. Probably the best example I can think of since it's open to anyone and is a general site for all music.

But I guess it also depends on where you go. For instance, You'll find sites like http://www.hellridemusic.com where it's mostly the true doom crowd. Whereas http://www.doom-metal.com seems to have a lot more Death/doom and Funeral fans.

I would say Progressive Metal isn't ver well known, and I don't think Melodic Death gets the credit it deserves.

Ah, yes. I don't stray away from Gaia, so I'm just basing it on what I see on the metal forum.
