RP Log for Raylan and Izulu

Raylan frowned as she sat on the boulder, tangerine eyes turned up towards the thin clouds stretched across the sky, following their lazy path. She sighed, blowing the tuft of mane away from her eyes, trying to make her mind seem less troubled. With a small sigh, she lowered herself into a laying position atop the large granite boulder, eased somewhat by the cool surface. "I don't know anymore," she said quietly, putting a paw to her head. She didn't know all that was going on in her head or her heart, but she didn't want Enok to know.. or those hyenas for that matter. They never kept their mouths shut.

Speak of the devil and she appeared. "Don't know what?" The, arguably, more annoying of the two hyena's appeared around the bolder. Izulu sat herself down there, panting as she looked up at her 'sister-companion' as she called her now, ears perked. "You look distresatored."

"I look what?" Raylan said, eyebrows knitting. As soon as she said it, however, she shook her head and waved it away - she had long since realized that asking Izulu to explain something only made it that much worse. "I've just got a lot of stuff on my mind," she said with a little frown, narrowing her eyes at the panting hyena. "Why are you so worked up?" she asked wonderingly, although, admittedly, asking Izulu anything was always a gamble.

”Distresatored!" She chirped, as if it made perfect sense. It did to her, at least, and that was all that really mattered with this one. She bounced a little more, "My stomach is grumbly and i want to eat, but it says 'noooooo no food for you! i throw it back atyou!" amusingly enough, izulu's stomach seemed to have a very deep voice. At least, that was how the hyena 'portrayed' it. She barked and went back to her normal slightly annoying, high-pitched tones. "Oth put cubs in there, and they're being mean to me. But its okay, they'll be out soon enough."

Raylan simply shook her head at Izulu's explination to her obviously made up word. She just let it go though - as long as Izulu knew what it meant, that was all that matterd, especially if it made her happy. She thought she got the gist of it, after thinking about some of the words it seemed she mushed together for it, but decided not to say anything else on the matter. "Oh, so you're sick?" she said with a little frown, leaning closer to the smaller form of the female - well, she didn't look sick, but that wasnt saying much with Izulu. She could have been dying and probably still would have acted insanely happy. "Oh.. he what? No don't answer that," she muttered, her words stumbling out as she glanced away quickly. She was very aware of Izulu's attempts at having 'cubs', and she would rather not go there.

"Well its rather simple, really," Izulu said in a voice that just screamed 'teach.' "We go off into the bushes, and I get down on my stomach so he can com up behind me a--BUTTERFLY!" The hyena jumped up, about to chase the poor passing insect when she hunkered down again and put her chin on the ground. "ehhh.. bad stomach, you're supposed to stay stiillll," Izulu groaned. After a few moments of that she looked up once more to her 'sister'. "The cubs make me sicky... make'em'benice, ray-ray."

Raylan's face had been growing increasingly distressed with every word that Izulu had been saying. It was too much to ask for when that butterfly came by and Izulu cut off abruptly. She let out a deep sigh, thankful she didn't have to have this talk with her. However, her relief was immediately replaced with worry as the hyena got sick again. She frowned and got off of her rock, moving to lay down to her odd 'sister', leaning down to nuzzle against her stomach softly. "I don't know how Izulu.. I've never been around anyone with cubs before."

Izulu gave a whine, a pathetic, horrible, gut-wrenching whine. Her eyes, very much 'puppy style' looked up at her sister and she wagged her tail in the most dreary of fashions. "but you're magical, ray-ray.."

She frowned at this, feeling all at once very horrible for the smaller female. How in the world was she supposed to make her feel better? She furrowed her brows as she tried to think back to her mother and all the things she had done for them when they were small. "I don't think I'm magic.. but I could sing a song to them maybe? THey might go to sleep then."

"You're magic," Izulu stated confidently, once again acting suddenly more mature than she had a second ago. She lifted her head and patted a paw beside her, indicating for Raylan to lay down. "I would like to hear your super sparkly song, please."

Raylan laughed sheepishly and settled herself down beside Izulu, but where her face could be closer to her belly. Raylan had never really felt nervous before, had never seemed to know what it was, and she didn't begin to now - her only problem was remembering the words. "It's an old song I think, my mom sang it to me a few times when I was really small." Then, she cleared her throat a bit, and began to sing. "Golden slumber kiss your eyes, smiles await you when you rise. Sleep, pretty baby, do not cry, and I'll sing you a lullaby," it was sweet and soft, with a lilting air. She wasn't amazing, for she had never really sang aloud, but she could carry a tune decently. "Care you know not, therefore sleep, while I over you watch do keep. Sleep, pretty darling, do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby." She trailed off, glancing to Izulu with a questioning brow.

Izulu smiled at the song. She'd never heard anyone sing but herself... of course, her version of singing involved a lot of what others would likely term as 'yelling' or 'shouting' and generally involved more than one tune and key. What Raylan was doing wasn't something she'd ever considered before.. but she thought that it was certainly good, whatever it was. The hyena laid her head down along Raylan's closet bodypart, which happened to be her theigh, and let her eyes close.

She smiled at the way Izulu lay down, moving to let her own head lay near her belly, so that the two were rather curled in a fashion with one another. She let a wordless tune flow out of her maw, obviously the song in sound instead of word, before repeating it again. "Is it helping at all, Izulu?" she asked calmly, her voice melting right back into the wordless hum. It was moments like this that made her thankful she had left home to find somewhere new. All of them really did make her feel like she was needed.

"You sound like a mommy." the Hyena replied softly, "At least, the mommies i saw in the pride."

Raylan frowned after a moment at the thought of having her own cubs. She really only wanted those with Enok, and the thought still frightene her that she did. Besides, he just thought of her like a sister - he helped her when she was uncomfortable, or when she was upset over remembering something. "I don't know if I'll ever be a mommy though," she said with a small smile, "I'll just have to be a good aunt to your cubs, though, to make up for it."

Izulu gave a soft, happy bark, though her eyes remained closed. She was tired.. strangely tired... but so happy. "But you and Enok should have cubs. You're good together."

Her eyes widened a little, her paw rubbing against the ground as she stopped her little lullaby. Well, she had been thinking it, but it was different having someone say it out loud. "But.. I don't know if Enok would want to have cubs with me, Iz." She frowned, letting her eyes close half way as she thought, "I think we're just friends."

"So?" The girl's tail thumped a little, but otherwise she didn't move. "What are mates but friends? Wel, i guess you can have cubs and shove the male off if he annoys you, but most don't anymore. Cubs are good, though, and our pride needs them."

She smiled as Izulu said 'pride', shaking her head a little at the girl's insistance. She was pretty sure prides couldn't be this small, but Enok always said not to burst her bubble, so Raylan wasn't going to. She didn't think she could if she tried anyway. "I know, but I think it's a little more complicated for me and Enok than it was.. for you and Oth." She shut her eyes with a sigh, her own tail flicking behind her. "I think it takes a little more than just being friends, and I don't know if Enok even wants that with me." She never realized, until now, how nice it felt to talk to someone - even if it was Izulu.

For her part, Izulu didn't really seem to understand, recognize or admit that Raylan wasn't either her friend or her sister. Something had misfired in that head again, though Raylan would likely never know it until it was far too late. "Othy is a good mate," She sidetracked a moment. "Though I wanted Enok at first. He's much more handsome and quieter.. Oth is nice, though, and he's my kind of Lion. It made more sense for it to be this way."

Raylan had accepted the way Izulu viewed her, and in a way, thought of Izulu in similar terms - it just made their odd relationship that much easier. However, she couldn't help the smile that crossed her maw at these words (and an underlying jealousy that she probably wasn't even aware of). "I think you and Oth fit much better," she said with a small nod, though she did not elaborate. It would have been a little hard, admittedly, for Izulu to get 'cubs' with Enok. "You and Oth are a lot more alike, I think."

"We are," Izulu admitted. "And he's funny, if a little slow some times."

She laughed again, opening one eye to peek down at the hyena, "he's very funny." She smiled and shut her eye again, letting her mind wander. While Oth was indeed funny, he made her uncomfortable sometimes, just like Izulu did - it wasn't there fault, really, but Enok was always there with a smile to make her feel better. "He can't help being slow. I'm sure you're intelligence will make up for it when the cubs come," well, Izulu had something there, and she wasn't slow, but Raylan wasn't sure intelligence was quite the word she was looking for.

"we can hope so," Izulu agreed with a soft hum. There was a long moment where she seemed to drift off to sleep. After a few deep breaths and amazing minutes of silence, she proved that she wasn't quite there yet. "Rayray... i'm glad you came back to us."

Raylan had been letting herself rest as well, although she was no where near sleeping. She felt the need to stay awake and make sure nothing bad came around while Izulu slept - but her words caught the pretty lioness of guard. "What do you mean - no, never mind," she said quietly, although she was smiling, "I'm glad I came back too." It was nice to feel wanted, and she wasn't going to spoil the moment by asking Izulu something that probably had no real answer.

That seemed to be the end of it, really. Izulu gave a happy little hum and her tail thumped, and then she went silent as she did fall asleep. As much as she loved being pregnant it was a LOT of work.

Raylan simply smiled as she heard the other's breathing drift into a pattern that signified sleep, and she simply lay thre listening in silence. It really must be hard work for Izulu - but she at least felt good for being able to help her. It was nice to have a family, even if they were a very odd family indeed.
