Sinclair Lewis was a famous novelist in the 20s- 40s. He was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota on February 7, 1885. Three of his most well known novels are Mainstreet, Babbitt, and Arrowsmith. In 1930, Snicalir lewis became the first American to win the Nobel Prize of Literature. H also was awarded the Pulitzer prize for Arrowsmith, but declined it because he believed that the Pulitzer was meant for books that celebrated American wholesomeness and his novels, which were quite critical, should not be awarded the prize. On January 10, 1951, Sinclair Lewis died of advanced alcoholism in Rome Italy.

In Sauk Centre, Minnesota Sinclair Lewis Days is a week of festive days in honor of Sinclair Lewis that occurs durringthe month of July. Sinclair Lewis Avenue was the road that Sinclair Lewis' boyhood home was on and was renamed after him. His house is now a museum.

I myself have lived in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. I lived on Sinclair Lewis Avenue, only a block and a half to Sinclair Lewis' boyhood home. I myself consider Suak Centre to be my home town even though i was born in La Mesa, California. I lived in Sauk Centre for most of my life. Then due to fianacial reasons my famliy had to move. While I lived their I knew Sinclair Lewis was famous, but to what extent I did not know until recently.

Well the main point of this thread was to inform my fellow members breifly about Sinclair Lewis.

My question to my fellow members is did you know who Sinclair Lewis was before this thread? And if you did what book of his did you like the best?

Discuss or inform your fellow members about your favorite Author.

The name sounds SO familiar, but I can't think of any books of his. But he sounds like a fascinating author, and I'd love to do more research. wink
