The morning sun rose sluggishly upon a section of dense forest. However, its denizen, a teen aged Dragonfly, was already awake. Her silver and green body was stretched out comfortably with her head resting on her crossed paws and her belly on the ground. Her tail swung gently back and forth, betraying the inner content her face did not show. Her violet eyes held a light of happiness as she she simply watched three wide, vibrant orange snakes slither to and fro before her.

Purple eyes opened up slowly as the dragonfly who owned them slowly woke up, finding herself in the middle of a pile of fallen leaves. Fareeda had been heading out on her own almost every day like this now. She was practicing on how to live life without her mother by her side. She was growing up after all. Slowly, she stood up and stretched herself out. She had been about to head on out when an orange snake crossed her path. Her eyes followed it curiously and she followed it as well. As mature as she was and almost had always been, even she could relive the naive curiousity that a clueless, little, child could have. Maybe the snake would lead her to something wonderful and new...?

Needless to say, Jatai was certainly puzzled for a moment when one of the snakes came back with another Dragonfly following it. This bizarre, pink-ish purple Dragonfly looked to be the same age as her as well. Not bothering to sit up, Jatai lifted her eyes towards the new female and said calmly, "Why, hello there."

Fareeda stopped as she realized the snake had lead her to another draonfly. She was relieved to see it was a female. She often got annoyed by the males she ran into. "Hello... am I bothering you? I probably shouldn't of followed that snake for so long." She smiled in her embarressment. "I just found it funny. It seemed like it was in a hurry.... or something."

Jatai shook her head and rose gracefully to a sitting position. "No, you're not bothering me. The snake must have led you here for a purpose." She looked to the snake for a moment as if searching for answers before looking back at the new girl again. "Anyway, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am called Jatai."

Fareeda smiled. "Likewise. I'm Fareeda." Her tail wagged behind her as she realized how much a like the two of them seemed to be. "Is it just me, or could you be something like a long lost sister? Our colors are different, but your markings..." She turned so Jatai could take a better look at the markings on her hind legs. "They look something like mine...." Her eyes looked down at the snakes again, wondering what reason it could be for leading her.

Jatai bowed at Fareeda's name and frowned at her words. Her eyes clouded over, as if some dark shadow had just landed upon her soul. "I can assure you, Miss Fareeda, that we are not sisters. I am an only child." Something about the tone of her voice, the bitterness, seemed to imply a tragedy of sorts. "Though, our markings are very similar," she added with a nod. As if sensing the Dragonfly's distress, one of the orange snakes slithered gently up her back, coiling himself upon her head.

Fareeda was a bit taken a back. Judging by the sound of her voice, Jatai did not want to be a sister to her. "I know. I'm an only child as well. I only meant we look very much a like. Siblings do tend to be like that, no?" She looked at the other's markings again. "Yeah, but they they're pretty different at the same time." She tilted her head, wondering if they were both related to some distant, older, dragonfly. "So... anyway, those snakes. They really seem to like you."

Instantly happier, Jatai removed the coiled snake from head and held him in her paws. Lightly stroking him, she smiled warmly. "I like snakes," she replied quietly. "Snakes are .... nice." She looked down at the happy snake in her paws and continued. "Snakes don't go out of their way to hurt you. They only fight if they have no other choice. They're peaceful and very accepting, even if you're ten times bigger than they are. Snakes aren't afraid of much, and they certainly don't think anything bad of anyone. They just go through life, living, and letting others live too. Snakes don't try to kill you," she murmured. As she spoke, her words rang true and her eyes softened. Clearly, Jatai deeply cared for these creatures.

Fareeda stared at the snake in wonder as she heard Jatai's words. "Wow... I never reallly thought about them like that. They're amazing." She smiled softly, having a new respect for the skinny, little, creatures. Judging by what Jatai said she knew about them, they were very wise. She slowly lowered her head to gently sniff at the creature in Jatai's hands curiously, watching carefully to make sure it she noticed it making any displeased motions if she did something it didn't like.

Carrying the scent of the moist earth he slithered upon, the snake peered at Fareeda curiously, flicking his tongue out to sniff her in return. Jatai nodded. "Yeah. Snakes are amazing. They were there for me when no one else was."

Fareeda smiled at the snake's acceptance and moved her head back so she could look at Jatai at eye level again. She frowned slightly. "No one else....? Heh... I've been there. More than you might ever know." She rolled her eyes at some unpleasent memories. "Mother and I have never had the easy life..." She murmured softly, wondering how the older female was doing without her around at the moment. Sometimes Fareeda felt she took more care for her mother than her mother needed to care for her.

Jatai's eyes got that hooded look once again as she murmered, "At least you have a mother." The silver and green Dragonfly turned her head to the skies above for a moment before sighing and returning her gaze to Fareeda. Jatai had heard tales of dead loved ones watching down from a sort of "heaven" above the clouds, but she didn't believe in it. Snakes believed that the dead became part of the ground.

Fareeda blinked and frowned deeply, realizing right away what she meant. "Yes... I am fortunate for that," She whispered quietly, but loud enough for the other to hear. "Sorry... I shouldn't talk like that I suppose. I just.. hate my father and what he did to my mother..." She sat down and her tail curled up in front of her eyes drifting off to the side.
