Location:: Off on a hill side, above a waterfall. Karis sits overlooking the land of Ulayas. She is half asleep, just waking up. Her eyes catch of a glimpse of something that makes her wonder if she is really just still asleep.
Song:: How did you find me, by kelly clarkston

Karis laid there, her head draped over her right arm. She had taken to sleeping high up in these cliffs and rocks. During the summer, she had spent so much time in the forests and jungles; but she hadn't really made any good friends. She felt like if she weren't going to have anyone wonderful in her life. She might as well just go somewhere she could watch the rest of them in peace.

The sun was rising. Morning had come. The n** of winter in the land brushed against her face making her think maybe she ought to get up and see if she can find a cave nearby.. or make one if it were possible. She pushed herself up on her front paws. She fluffed her tail against the rock. Was she destined to forever be.... and then her thought was interrupted. For her eyes saw something very beautiful. What was that? She had seen a few Ulaya running around with small wings on their backs. Few of them rarely actually flew with them. Still, something was different about this one.

Then, she tore her eyes away. Did it matter to take interest in anything? Poor Karis had found herself rather in a fit of despair recently. Feeling so isolated and disengaged from her kind.

Nickolas couldn't help but be moved by the pain in the beautiful female's face. How could one so lovely be so sad? He decided to follow her for a while, to see if he could offer her comfort. As the morning began to lighten, he was caught watching her, unable to move fast enough to not be seen. As he cursed his own inattention, he decided to move in closer, to engage her in conversation.

As she moved to start her search, Nickolas touched down behind her, settling his wings comfortably acroos his back. His silver eyes watched her closely as he cleared his throat, attempting to draw her attention.

The flittering of the wind from his landing touseled up her back. It made the hairs there all stand up. The tingles ran down into her tail, making it stick out for just a moment. She tilted her head to the side. What was... Eyes, her eyes... spread. There he was, so what she saw was real. The idea a Ulaya could have such widespread wings filled her with an insatiable awe. The wonder had her staring to her unawareness.

After a moment, her eyes moving up to see his eyes, the emotional and tumultuous floods that had been desolating her spirits; those feelings crashed and trashed against the glass of her eyes. Could anyone tell? Could others see her needing? Was it wrong? Was she monologuing inwardly yet again? She didn't move much anymore. She had become all but made of stone. The only movement on her was her pulse. That had began to speed up. A warm flush broke across her eyes and cheeks. Her cheeks filled with a soft blush which may or may not have been obvious to others due ot her dark purple fur on her face. Her eyes started to water. Why was it that something about him made her wanna weep?

He waited out her reaction, giving her time to adjust to his presence. He knew he was different, his wings much larger than most, but every Ulaya he met reacted differently upon seeing him. When she didn't shriek or start to yell at him, he smiled tentatively. He didn't blame the other Ulaya for their reactions to him, but it was always welcome to be met with something other than fear or distrust, or even loathing.

He takes in her blush curiously, not quite understanding, his head tilts slightly as he puzzles it out. He knows of embarassment, has felt its bite accutely himself, but never has he been the cause of it. Has he done something wrong? He coughs and looks away, unable to stand seeing the amount of pain and loneliness in her beautiful eyes.

"...I..", he looks back at her, his voice a pleasant tenor, "I am sorry, I do not mean to intrude. I just....I wanted to help." He smiles tentatively at her again, "I wanted to stop the pain in your eyes. It...it hurts me to see it, and...and it hurts more knowing you feel it." He turns the full intensity of his luminous silver eyes on her, "Tell me how to make it stop. Please..."

The winter wind of the cliffs blew through her fur. Her eyes started to sparkle and glistened as tears welled up. Their wetness catching the glints of sun. She felt completely naked and vulnerable in that moment. Was her discontent with being along really that apparent? What made him care? Noone else certainly did.

She immediately put her paws over her face to hide her eyes. The tears were breaking free like out of a dam. "No... don't look at me please... I'm sure you really don't want to talk to me.. or spend any kind of time with me. Noone wants me. I'm sure I'd just be a waste of your time." Her voice trembling, and through her brief words continued to crumble into broken syllables as a well of lament overflowed.

Her tears tear at his heart and he looks away unable to watch her cry, the pain of it unbearable. Head down, he tries to clear his head enough to think past her pain. Knowing what he is about to do will cause him agony, he steels his muscles and moves closer to her, gently nuzzling the top of her head and purring softly, the sounds of her crying tearing him apart.

"Please don't cry...I do want to talk to you. I...I want to help you...to not be alone. Please let me help you...", he begs her softly, his voice wavering from the pain of being this close to so much inner torment. "I want to...spend time with you...just please, don't cry..."

He continues to nuzzle and purr soothingly, his body shaking from being so close to her pain.

Karis's whole body shook. His touch both whelmed out more emotion, and yet at the same time, it comforted her. It was like someone draped a soft blanket around her. She felt this warm soothing consolation. If it hadn't been for her crying, she thought she might be in a dream. This certainly could not be real. Real boys didn't have wings like those. Most boys didn't want to talk to her. He didn't even know her.

Still, deep down there was something inside of her that had been waiting, hoping, and nearly dying for someone to come along and put their head on top of hers. To listen to the willing heart of another purr, to listen to them purr for want of her company. All this time, she had been slowly losing her hope that it would actually happen.

She wiped away her tears though her eyes were still wet. She slowly pulled her paws from hiding her face. Her eyes wandering upwards towards looking at him. "Are you really real? How do I know you aren't some figment of my imagination? How can I know I'm just not... going crazy and creating some imaginary friend..." But even in saying so, she could feel the warmth from his body. She could feel him breathe when he purred.

As her sobs quieted, so too did the pain in his heart. He smiled down at her, "I am real, though my kind are rare enough to still be thought of as myth. We are the Angelics, the Ulaya born with a touch of the Gods. My kind are here to be the protectors and companions to the rest of the Ulaya. This is what I was told, at least. As for proof...I may have an idea."

He stretches one wing out around his shoulder so that it nearly blocks his head, leans over, and uses his teeth to pluck out one of his pinfeathers. Nickolas repositions his wing comfortably along his back and leans lorward, offering her the feather. "I am Nickolas, an Angelic, an Ulaya....and I would like to know your name, pretty one. Let me help heal the pain and loneliness inside you, let me comfort you and be your friend. Please..."

He was real, to her anyways. She still thought in her mind she just might be crazy. Still, even if it was a fantasty, he did seem nice. He was awfully pretty. He reminded Karis of a clear summer sky just after a storm passed. He reminded her of days of life and happiness. Deep down, it was stirring her desire to have those things.

She took the feather into a hand. She slid it across the palm of her paw. It sure did feel real. She tickled it to the side her her cheek, and the tip of her ear. That sure did feel real enough. Still, she wasn't completely convinced. Then, she had a thought as she looked at him. Did she need to be convinced? What if she were having a dream? Then, she better make sure she was doing her part to make sure if she wakes up.. she helped make it a good one.

She then wiped away her remaining tears and tried to pull herself together. "My name is Karis. An angel huh? I'm not anything special. I'm just a normal ulaya. Nothing special about me. Not sure why you want to help me out... noone will care if I'm happy or not..." She looked away then. She did feel somewhat cast down. She really did want to try and make this a happy dream. If it was a fantasy, why did her heart still hurt a little?

He watches as she toys with the feather, watches the play of different emotions as they cross her face. He smiles at her, when her gaze returns to him, encouraging her silently to smile back. His head tilts slightly to the side as he wonders how she can be so harsh in speaking of herself, while feeling the quick slice of pain from her foray back into depression.

"Karis is a beautiful name, and I am very pleased to finally meet you.......and I know that you are special. I-I have been following you for the last three days...watching you...trying to understand. I care very much if you are happy or not, my own happiness and wellbeing depends upon it. I want to help...because I...I have feelings for you. I have grown to care for you over these last few days. Please, I...I want you to be happy."

He looks down at her, his eyes glowing softly as he traces the line of her cheek with a paw. "Please be happy?"

She looked then up at him with not a sad and despairing eyes, but of worry and fear. "Why does your wellbeing depend on it? Will something bad happen to you if I am not happy?" She felt so confused. She didn't understand at all.

She swallowed hard and rolled the thought around in her mind. So.. he had been following her? Had someone been watching her among her state of pity and grief? Why would they wanna watch her? Were there really gods or goddesses out there who watched over hte Ulayas.

She looked over him again, his big wings. She looked at the feather in her hand. "You... sought me out? You... really came to see me?" There she sat. Not only on a cliff in her people's land... She also at on the edge of a cliff inside herself. Here she was face to face with what her heart had wanted so much. Someone to just be with her.. someone who wanted to be around her. All she had to do was reach out and take it. Yet, her heart felt so afraid the moment she did it.. it'd all disappear. That it would be a fantasy. She would wake up and be alone again.

The touch of his paw on her cheek. The warmth spilled across her cheeks as she felt her heart race. What was this? How could a stranger come and make her feel this way?

He shifts his eyes away, "I am...unique, so far as I can tell. I am extremely sensitive to the pain and suffering of others...it hurts me...physically. The loneliness that stabs at your heart, rips through me as would a wild animal's claws. Even now, I can feel your hurt...it acts as a constant throb through my muscles...", he looks back to her, "I...I came upon you by chance. But your pain tore at me so...I had to help. At least to try...what you feel, I feel as well. I felt that perhaps...perhaps it would help to know that someone feels your pain...and wants to help it stop. I-I don't know what caused this pain in you........, "his eyes pierce hers, glowing and intense, "but I am here to help it cease. Please...let me help you. Let me stay with you, be your friend. Noone should ever hurt so much...I want to help make sure that you never hurt like this again."

He leans close to nuzzle her neck, baring the back of his to her, "Please let me stay..."

Karis sat and listened to his every word, feeling all the while the touch of his paw to her face. She felt locked and entranced with the look in his eye. His intensity drawing her in by every passing moment. "I'm sorry. I can't help the way I feel. It's just that so far.. noone's wanted to spend time with me except all the little ones... I gave up because I didn't want to always feel left out or rejected.. but... I guess... you could stay."

She closed her eyes for a moment, inhaling deeply and releasing a resigning sigh. When she looked back up to him with a clearing presence of mind which later on she would contribute to his presence there, she then let a small secret smile out. Truth being that she was finding it hard to hold it in as she started to believe him. She wanted to believe him; she needed to believe in what he said. That he wanted to stay with her.

"If I let you stay... How do I know you'll really stay? Stay for how long? If you just leave right away... How will it be any better?" In a way, her questions were all really an accepting of his want to stay. Yet, she wanted what seemed to be there waiting for her. She didn't want it to evaporate the moment she really reached out for it. Part of her feeling insecure to take something that would make her happy. To reach for what she wanted so badly adn needed so much... that need subconsciously taking over... her head leaning inwards to his, following his lead.

"I do not blame you for how you feel, I just ask that you give me a chance to change that. I want to spend time with you Karis. I want to see you smiling and laughing, and to know that its because of me."

He nuzzles her neck, then leans back to look at her, "I will stay for as long as you let me. It is by your choice that I stay or leave. I am putting myself in your hands, giving myself to you." He stares into her eyes, "I know you are afraid, I am too, but I am willing to put myself on the line for your happiness. I am yours."

He bows low, head touching the ground in submission.

It was for some time she sat in silence. Some of the time, she looked up at him, studying his eyes and expressions. Sometimes she was watchign some of the new snow falling out the corner of her eyes. Part her screamed that it would be such a foolish gamble to believe this stranger; and yet, part of her deep down was hoping and wishing with all her might that it was real. She wanted it to be true.

She took a deep breath, and with a swallow, she looked at him straight in his eyes. "Ok. I will take the chance on you. If you fail me, then I will feel worse than when you found me." She got up on all fours and started to walk towards the wall of the cliff. "Come, let me show you where I am staying. The snow is falling. We might need shelter soon." As soon as her head was turned from him to see it, she started to smile a little to herself. The part of her that had wished this to be true so much; it rejoiced. While there was a small part that was still unsure; she felt ready to take the chance. Just how long would he stay?
