Montgomery sat on his haunches, his eyes patiently sweeping over the brooding faces of the nearby mountains. For the better part of a day he had been climbing into the foothills, crossing streams and rockfalls with the effortless ease of the large cats, always alert for danger or opportunity.
He had been told by another that there were caves in these mountains, and he was determined to find one of them. There was no particular reason to do so, but he had never been inside a cave larger than a small hollow in a hill before, and so it seemed like something he should do. If he was lucky, he might even run into someone to go with him... Maybe even Kiarra?
He paused at that thought, a purr coming unbidden at the thought of the gorgeous female. For some reason, she could hold his attention like no other, and the thought of her always made him smile.

For the past few days, Kiarra had been ‘accidentally’ trying to bump into her favorite friend, Monty. The mere thought of him sent a warm tingling shiver through her chest, quickly followed by disappointment….She missed him. ‘But she dared not admit it to herself, simply pushing that idea out of her mind. She paused, why couldn’t she shake this odd feeling of disappointment away? She decided she would go off on her own; simply to wander…Out of the hopes to maybe pick her spirits up, discover something perhaps. Today was a new day, a gorgeous one at that, and she would never let it spoil any longer. As she began her travels, she noticed the terrain around herself quickly change. The luscious jungle had begun to thin as she pressed, then she looked upwards; a few large mountain sides with deep crevices lay in front of her. She was scared, should she go? What if there was some terrifying monster? She frowned at herself, ‘Why do I doubt myself so?’. With a deep breath and a small grin, she quickly made her way towards the largest of the caverns, an amazing structure filled with large stalactites. She paused at the entrants, taking one final look around until she noticed some faint disturbance in the bushes a little distance away.

Montgomery silently cursed to himself, gently rubbing his scraped paw. A loose rock, just a lousy loose rock. Under more critical conditions, that mistake could have been very dangerous. After a moment the pain passed, and he poked his head out of the bush, looking down the hillside to see who he had heard. When his eyes fixed on Kiarra, his heart joyfully leapt. He had not realized until then exactly how much he had missed her, and without any more thought he hopped out of the bush and bounded down the hillside towards her.

A large smile peaked through her lips as she ran towards him immediately, meeting him halfway. “Montgomery!” She said in an excited tone, unable to hold back her joy. Then she paused, sheepishly blushing as she took a moment to ‘regain’ herself. “How have you been? I haven’t seen you around..Not that I was looking for you..I mean, not that I wouldn’t want to SEE you, just that I wasn’t going out of my way- BUT you are worth going out of my way for-“ She stopped. A couple seconds passed; “What the hell was that?” She asked herself in a stunned voice, baffled by her own stupidity.

Montgomery bounced up beside her, happily rubbing his side down hers in greeting, purring loudly. "I'm happy to see you too, Kiarra, I really missed you." He grinned. "I'm not really sure why, but it's the truth."
He rubbed his head on her cheek, and chuckled. "What I think that is... well, it's more or less what I was trying to come up with a way to say. You just beat me to it. You are most definitely worth going any distance out of my way for." He licked her ear and purred again, feeling like an idiot, but enjoying himself too much to care.

She sighed in agreement, a sweet smile tugging away as she closed her eyes to simply let herself enjoy the moment. “You don’t know why you missed me?” She pulled away, teasing him with a grin. “Well I don’t know why I missed you! How about that?” She asked as with a laugh. “It wasn’t your daaaaaaaashing good looks..” She said in a sarcastic tone, nearing him with a step or two…”It wasn’t your ‘expert’ hunting skills” she rolled her eyes exaggeratingly, nearing him again, She paused and looked at him cutely, “It was your kisses..!” She liked him playfully in the face (hopping she wouldn’t get his eye!) and bounded off towards the mountain, laughing pausing in amusement for him to join her in the exploration.

Montgomery laughed aloud, a broad smile on his face as he darted up the rocks after her. "Well, I must admit that perhaps I was somewhat... swayed by your incredible beauty." He flicked his ears in a display of humor and friendship, gesturing with his nose up the mountain. "I've heard that there are caves up there, I was about to go looking for them when I saw you. Should we perhaps... go exploring together?" He almost choked, trying not to laugh at his horrible pickup line, a sparkle in his eyes. "You never know, there might be dark places that nobody ever goes to in there."

She cocked an eyebrow, looking over to Monty as she asked, “And why exactly would you like a deserted dark corner for? What do you plan on doing with me in there?” She teased, her canines shinning in the light. She laughed outloud, trying to make him feel akward. “Alright sorry, Lead the way Mon capitaine!” She announced formally with a little bow. She was in an abnormally excited mood!

"Hey, who said I was planning anything?" He chuckled as he headded for the opening of the cave. "Although off the top of my head I could come up with a couple of good uses for a nice, dark, private corner." Another little purring laugh accompanied that. "I'm more worried about what a gorgeous, intelligent female like you might come up with."
He stopped at the yawning entrance to the cave, checking it over carefully. "Wow, that's a lot larger than I thought it would be." An instant later he stifled a distinct "snerk" as he tried not to blush at yet another horrible, unintended pun.

She cuckled softly, "Monty..You've got to be one in a million.." She began to pur softly, the vibrations sligthly reflecting from the large scattered rocks around the cave and brushing against her ears, it was so odd! She rubbed herself against Monty for the lovelly comment, then quickly stepped inside, slinking into the darkness as a little newt stirred ahead. She was entranced; it was oddly colored bright red, with no eyes! An adaptation to the darkness? Perhaps... She dared not kill it though, she never killed anything she would not eat. She continued a bit further, stopping in her tracks as she stared high up at a cluster of bats squeeking! "Monty! Come check those out! Rats with wings!"She said in awe. She had never seen such abnormal creatures.

Montgomery followed her after a moment, purring just a little himself as he watched her tail flick among the loose rocks on the floor of the cave entrance. His ears twitched and turned this way and that as he tried to follow the odd echos of their passage, absently wondering if it would be possible to know where you were by listening to them closely enough.
When Kiarra called out, he quickly ran up beside her, peering upward into the darkness. "How very peculiar! I've never seen anything like that before... They do indeed look like rats with wings, Kiarra, how do you suppose they keep the blood from rushing to their heads, hanging like that all day?" He kept staring at them, slowly beginning to pick out more details as his eyes adjusted better to the darkness.

“You know what? I have no clue! I Bet they fly in loops when they finally let go!” She giggled, looking up in astonishment. An odd image of Montgomery hanging upside down by his feet trickled through her mind. She had to stifle a laughter, pressing on into the darkness before she thought of anymore absurd ideas. Her pupils began to dilate, letting her see the surroundings clearer. She noticed off markings on the cave wall, colored foot prints! Though, she’s never seen such odd footprints….long extended digits smudged colors on the rough walls, the colors were surprisingly bright. She sat on rump, her tail swiveling back and forth as she examined everything to the most intricate detail. She was a little jealous at hart, unable to produce such a captivating piece herself…How amazing would that be, to leave a footprint that would last a lifetime, even when your gone? She was lost in thought and nearly forgot that Monty had been with her.

"Hmm, it's too bad that there's nothing up there to hold on to, I'd have to go up and try it myself before I could comment too much on it, I suppose." He tilted his head a little, padding over to another spot to get a different perspective on them. "They certainly are odd little fellows, aren't they?"
After watching them for a little longer, he wandered deeper into the cave after Kiarra, finding her inspecting a wall daubed with odd, bright pawprints. Grinning, he dropped into his stealthy padded step, slowly sneaking up behind her while she was focused on the wall. Stifling a chuckle, he pounced on her, careful to catch his weight on his own paws and not crash into her too hard. "Snuggle from behind!"

“Heyyy…!” She called out in laughter, stumbling forward but able to catch herself before snubbing her nose on the dirty cave floor. She diverted her attention to Montgomery, easing her slender body against his own. “Do you see those?” She asked, seating herself against him, her eyes wildly scanning the dark walls; even in darkness she could pick up the colors. “What purpose would they serve?” She asked, puzzled. Usually, she kept such odd thoughts to herself…But with Monty around, she couldn’t quite help but fall back to him for his input; she enjoyed his point of views…They were as unique as herself. Her left paw slightly kneaded the ground, grasping the dirt between her digits before releasing it and repeating; she did this odd behavior when stressed…in thought…or out of sheer contentment. “What would those damned markings serve?” She repeated to herself.

Montgomery laughed with the success of his little plot, and sat down on the floor with Kiarra, snuggling his side up against hers. He purred quietly as he observed the painting on the walls, trying to come up with a logical reason for it himself. After a minute or two of silence, he spoke. "Perhaps they were put there because whomever painted them knew that they could not leave tracks on the floor, and wanted someone to be able to follow them?"
He smiled, he so loved being with Kiarra, she asked the most interesting questions! He continued puzzling, watching Kiarra knead the ground with her paw, and he shifted a little to lick her on the side of her neck. "Or maybe they just got bored and decided to mess with whomever came in after them." He chuckled happily.
