Well, I hung about in lab for about a month a while back. But I drifted away from Gaia and didn't return to lab until very recently - The Equinox of God's Meta event. I thought that I might as well dig out my old concept thread and revamp old ideas and add some new ones.
I would like to say that I am creating this concept thread more for fun than anything else, as the chances of me raising enough funds to purchase even a semi-custom are ridiculously low. From now onwards I'll be trying to enter every event that is thrown at me.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my concept. Critiques and criticism are encouraged.
Thank you!
Crit is especially wanted on;
(in order of priority) > Fel Essences. > Souls. > Raevan concepts. > Past entries.
Please note; some things aren't entirely finished so please keep that in mind before ripping me to shreds? ;___;
IF YOU WISH TO USE ANY OF MY IDEAS PLEASE ASK ME! I MIGHT BE WILLING TO GIVE THEM UP TO YOU IF YOU LIKE 'EM! IT'D WARM MY HEART TO SEE SOME OF MY OWN IDEAS COME INTO REALITY!! :'D

Fel Essences;Quote: [[ Cupid's Miss ]] (Name suggested by Chrystali) Everyone knows that if Cupid's arrow finds your heart then then next person you see you'll fall deeply and truly in love with, right? Well one of cupids arrows was caught up in that catastrophic storm, whirled far from the love god's target and embedded, seeping corruption, in a tree trunk in a secluded part of the world; it's properties changed completely. The whole blackened arrow was too large to fit within the containers so Kyou took just it's heart shaped tip, the most corrupted part. Now sits in one of Kyou's vials; it's obsidian surface emanating hatred. Anyone who goes close to this fel essence starts to feel a passionate hatred for everything they once loved... Better not stay with it for too long 'ey then? Quote: [[ Horn of Empty ]] Joint favourite, would love either this one or the other... No preference between them It is believed that this horn may once have been a legendary horn of plenty. The horn of plenty, a cornucopia, was a mythical item; A hollowed horn that contained a never ending supply of food. An object that could keep producing a never-ending banquet of delights, it could be used as an answer to world hunger. However, this horn has an infinitely large space inside it and you are never able to fill it up... Any object, whether it be food or not, placed inside it's dark opening is consumed. And whilst the horn of plenty had everlasting generosity, this corrupted horn has a never ending hunger. Quote: [[ True Wishing Bone ]] Joint favourite, would love either this one or the other... No preference between them Something inside the jar tinkles pleasantly, a melodic sound that brings to mind festive times and a warm fuzzy feeling in your chest. Upon looking at the origin of the noise you'd find a simple wishbone - in science called the Furcula, a fusion of two bones in the skeleton of bird so that they can withstand the wear and tears of flight. It's small, V shaped, and off white in colour; unextraordinary apart from a pale glow surrounds it. As you watch, the bone bounces around, full of joy - tapping occasionally on the glass. Maybe there is more to the bone than what first meets the eye? The tradition of two people breaking a wishbone in two and the one with the larger portion having their wish granted is well-known, yet it is against common sense and logic to believe that it can be true.. Maybe this special little bone can truly grant your hearts desire... Maybe we'll have to wait and see? Quote: [[ Slow Light ]] The speed of light is a truly amazing thing. Through a vacuum it travels at 299,792,458 metres per second. It is the fastest thing we know of, and many theories dictate that no matter or information can travel faster than light. However, the content of this phial seem to say something different. Sluggishly moving around in the sealed phial is a glowing matter with no set shape, meaning it cannot be solid, yet it is impossible to describe as a liquid or gas either - it has no weight. Under close examination, closer than the human eye can manage, one would find that this bizzar phenomenon is in fact light.. Photons trapped in the phial, unable to escape. But surely they should comply to all of the laws of physics that govern our world? They should be impossible to trap and they should move at insane speed. The only explanation could be that they, like all fel essences, were caught in the storm and altered beyond understanding..

Souls;#1 [[ Snowflake Moray ]] The snowflake moray eel is a very commonly kept saltwater eel. They are very hardy and well-suited to aquarium life. Up to 36" in length (though 28" is more common in captivity). The snowflake moray is found between rocks and corals of intertidal reef flats, and also in shallow lagoon and seaward reefs. It feeds mainly on crustaceans, but in captivity they are accepting of just about any meaty foods, including krill, shrimp, silversides and octopus meat. Coloration is a white body with two rows of large black blotches, the black spots between blotches become irregularly linear with age. The eyes are yellow. #2 [[ Pacific Sea Nettle Jelyfish ]] Chrysaora fuscescens (generally referred to as a sea nettle or Pacific sea nettle) is a common variety of scyphozoan jellyfish, found in the Pacific Ocean from California to Alaska, and less commonly in Japan. It is found mostly near the coast, although the species was originally described from individuals collected in the open North Pacific, far offshore. Diameter of the body (the "bell") can be greater than 1 m (3 feet), although most are less than 50 cm across. The long, complicated, spiraling oral arms and the 24 tentacles may trail as far as 3.6 to 4.6 m (12 to 15 feet) behind the bell. It may be present in coastal waters in great numbers in the late summer. It is displayed at many public (and private) aquariums, because it is colorful and relatively easy to maintain indoors.#3 [[ Mandarin Goby ]] The mandarinfish is a small, brightly-colored member of the dragonet family, which is popular in the saltwater aquarium trade. The mandarinfish is native to the Pacific, ranging approximately from the Ryukyu Islands south to Australia. It is also somewhat misleadingly known as the mandarin goby, due to its resemblance to blennies and gobies. Mandarinfish are reef dwellers, preferring sheltered lagoons and inshore reefs. While they are slow-moving and fairly common within their range, they are not easily seen due to their bottom-feeding habit and their small size (reaching only about 6 cm). They feed primarily on small crustaceans and other invertebrates. The name of the mandarinfish comes from its extremely vivid coloration, evoking the robes of an Imperial Chinese mandarin. #4 [[ Barracuda ]] Barracudas are elongated fish with powerful jaws. The lower jaw of the large mouth juts out beyond the upper. Barracudas possess strong, fang-like teeth. In general, the barracuda's coloration is dark green or gray above chalky-white below. This varies somewhat. Sometimes there is a row of darker cross-bars or black spots on each side. The fins may be yellowish or dusky. Barracudas live in oceans, but can be kept in large tanks. Barracudas occur both singly and in schools around reefs, but also appear in open seas. They are voracious predators and hunt using a classic example of lie-in-wait or ambush. They rely on surprise and short bursts of speed (up to 27mph (43 km/h)) to overrun their prey, sacrificing maneuverability.

Guardian;Quote: NAME : Ethan Blake. GENDER : Male. AGE : 52. OCCUPATION : Businessman and owner of a successful energy company. RACE : Human. LIKES : Money, expensive clothes, unusual items, younger women, being correct. DISLIKES : Dirt, ugly women, not getting what he wants. LOOKS : A short yet attractive man, Ethan is well groomed. Neither fat nor thin he retains a good healthy figure by frequenting the gym and is fairly fit for a man of his age. His thinning grey hair is cropped short, his chin clean shaven and his grey eyes are always behind a pair of steel rimmed glasses; he portrays a neat business-like air. Normally found wearing a designer suit with an expensive tie pin, it is evident that he takes pride and thinks carefully about his appearance. Overall he is easily recognisable as a man with considerable wealth.
PERSONALITY : Ethan approaches people with a warm smile and a friendly tone. He can hold a pleasant friendly conversation without too much difficulty and easily finds common ground to talk about – drawing from his years of work in a variety of different places. However, he does tend to dominate a conversation, often finding a way to move onto a topic he wishes to discuss rather than listening to what other’s have to say. His above average looks and prosperous career have always meant that he has always been attractive to women and always had an abundance of partners. The fact he is getting older does not deter him and he is still quite a charmer. Money is no hindrance to Ethan and therefore he tends to splash out large amounts of money on whimsical things; if he wants something he’ll get it, no matter the cost. This has led to him becoming accustomed to getting his way and any challenge made to what he wants is met with fierce opposition. In fact, one of his most significant personality traits is determination; a superb quality for a person to have in the dog-eat-dog world of business, but very irritating too. He bounces back to any challenges and finds a way to acquire what he wants; he’ll bribe and manipulate if he really wants something enough, much to the annoyance of his PR team who try to keep these unsavoury things from reaching the media.
HISTORY : Ethan’s rise to becoming the successful businessman that he is now was a slow yet steady climb. He began his life in a middle-class family, his parents were both working and their combined income helped to pay for Ethan and his brother’s private education. Ethan worked hard at school and got good grades that helped push him into a good university, where he studied business and economics, coming out with an almost perfect A grade. His knowledge of business and ability to socialise aided him in the world of work - wherever he worked he settled in well and rose through the ranks. By the time he was 25 he owned his own successful business, selling and fitting solar panels. However he still pressed on eager to expand, becoming bigger and better over the years. Once or twice he was trapped in sticky situations due to foolish business mistakes, but he always recovered, learned and rose to greater heights. His company rose to an all time high recently when they found new techniques for providing cheap energy, much thanks to Ethan’s funding into research – both ordinary and slightly unusual.

Raevan;Quote: NAME : Saybal. GENDER : Female. RACE : Raevan. LIKES : - DISLIKES : - LOOKS : - ALIGNMENT : Neutral Evil.
PERSONALITY : -
FELESSENCE : Arrow of Hatred. SOUL : Snowflake Moray. FOOD : - POWER(S) : - Quote: NAME : Jona. GENDER : Male. RACE : Raevan. LIKES : Eating, sleep, relaxing, casual gaming, music. DISLIKES : Being hungry, being made to do stuff, exercise. LOOKS : - ALIGNMENT : Chaotic Neutral.
PERSONALITY : • Jona has two of the deadly sins well and truly covered; gluttony and sloth. • Finding a lazier person than Jona is a near impossible task. If it weren't for Ethan or other people who are in charge, making him do things and go out, Jona would quite contently stay at home on the couch and sleeping, watching t.v, eating; Only doing things that requires minimum effort. • His greed is probably a trait descendant from his fel essence. His stomach, though not quite present, always has room for more. After Jona's birth Ethan's home will be full of plates of quivering translucent jelly where Jona has gorged himself. • Although he rarely makes an effort to go out, when he is forced into social activities Jona does fairly way. Although he is not exactly a people-person, he isn't at all socially inadequate and can hold a friendly conversation as he is not lured away by a comfortable sofa or delicious piece of food.
FELESSENCE : Horn of Empty. SOUL : Pacific Sea Nettle Jellyfish. FOOD : Jona needs normal food to survive due to the fact that he is constructed around an object that used to produce food in an unlimited supply, a cornucopia. However rather than giving out food, the 'horn of empty' consumed it, and likewise Jona is perhaps the only Raevan that requires food to eat... though not in the traditional sense. Simply by touching his meals Jona can absorb all the nutrients he needs. This process it quite odd to watch; all the colour in the food is pulled towards the point of contact and seems to drain away into Jona. What is left is an clear jelly-like substance retaining the shape of the food. It is flavourless and lacks any nutrients; a harmless, yet totally useless, byproduct of his feeding. POWER(S) : Touching Jona's skin without him knowing will result in being injected with toxins similar to those found in his soul's tendrils. These toxins are capable of killing small fish or stunning larger, predatory fish. On humans, it will most likely cause a nonlethal, but nevertheless painful rash typically persisting for about 20 minutes. This skill is active nearly all the time and it takes quite a lot of effort to turn it off' for long periods of time. Quote: NAME : Murad. GENDER : Male. RACE : Raevan. LIKES : Bright colours, friends, holidays, warmth, day dreaming. DISLIKES : Being enclosed, loneliness, cold, seeing others upset, boredom. LOOKS : • Childish, wide eyed and playful looking. • Bright vibrant colouration, many midnight blues and dusky oranges inherited from his soul. • Perhaps clothing could be like the robes of a Chinese mandarin, after all that is where his soul got it’s name from? [But I’m wide open about clothes really, all Kyou’s designs are wonderful – so whatever Kyou thinks looks best.] • Some sort of hint about his fel essence would be wonderful too. Maybe a wish bone protruding from his chest? Or a faint glow similar to what his fel essence had? • He’d probably have mid-length scruffy hair.
ALIGNMENT : Lawful Good.
PERSONALITY : • Happy go lucky and friendly. He’ll attempt to be best buddies with anything. It’d take some time to convince him not to try and make friends with anyone who passes by. • When Murad does get upset, (it’d have to be a fairly large issue to make a dent in his joyful persona) he’s not the type to get over it quickly, despite his normally hyper-happy state. It plays on his mind for a long time and it takes a lot of tender loving care to patch up his broken heart and return him to his usual happy, bouncy state. -cough-referencetowishbone-cough- >___> • He would name and ‘befriend’ every fish in Ethan’s huge aquarium and often bring them come up in conversation, refering to them by name. • Innocent and naive – he'd believe everyone has good intentions, even when they blatantly don’t. • Has a fear of being enclosed in small contained spaces. Even being in a room with the door shut makes him nervous. His soul was kept in a tank for most of its life; this fear is probably from that. (Luckily Ethan’s house is open-plan.)
FELESSENCE : True Wishing Bone. SOUL : Mandarin Goby. FOOD : Murad absorbs the desires and wishes of those around him. To be more specific, when somebody close by has a wishful thought he senses it and it gives him energy. These thoughts can range from stupidly trivial, such as wishing that they could be prettier, to serious, hoping that they can survive cancer. The desire behind the wishes effects how much energy Murad gains; the stronger the desire for that wish to become true, the greater the nourishment Murad gains. Murad can only vaguely read the wishes he is feeding off - if he concentrates on the source he could see vague images of the desire, yet again, the more determined wishes have more clarity and substance. ((The person whom the 'wish energy' is being leeched off doesn't feel anything during this process and unless Murad told them, they would be blissfully unaware of him feeding off them..)) POWER(S) : Stress is the key trigger to Murad's ability, perhaps a reminder of his fel essence - the bone that has to be broken to gain a wish. When Murad is upset he has the remarkable power of granting wishes of those around him. He cannot do anything drastic, like making someone who wishes to be taller a drastic amount taller, but he can induce subtle changes, maybe making them grow an inch or so. The amount of stress that he has to be under to grant people's wishes can vary from being slightly blue to full blown depression, and is therefore a rather uncontrollable power. Revise/Rethink Quote: NAME : Shri. GENDER : Female. RACE : Raevan. LIKES : - DISLIKES : - LOOKS : - ALIGNMENT : Lawful Neutral.
PERSONALITY : -
FELESSENCE : Slow Light. SOUL : Barracuda. FOOD : Slowing down light is Shri's method of feeding. By reducing the speed photons of light in a concentrated area Shri gains a substantial amount of energy, from which she can live off. The area of slowed light can range from about a metre cubed to just a couple of centimetres, depending on how hungry she is. Whilst she is feeding all visible light is forced to a slowed speed. This causes an odd distorted sense of colour and although matter moves at a regular speed in the area regardless of her feeding, everything appears sluggish as the visible light isn't showing the change as quickly. After she has filled her appetite the light returns to it's insane speed and everything looks normal again. POWER(S) : -

Writing Samples & Past Attempts/Achievements;Equinox of Gods Round 2 Prompt 2 It was late at night, you just got home from a long day and you're exhausted. But as you enter the house, you realized something was wrong. The lights refuses to switch on, like the electricity is out. As your eyes adjusted to the darkness, with the help of moonlight shining through a window, you realized your home was wrecked! Furnitures destroyed, windows broken, various house decorations lay broken all over the floor. Upon closer inspection, some of the items were melted or had bits of frost on them too. Just when you thought the day had ended! Seems like it never will.
What happened in here? And where the hell is Zul? How do you deal with this? [800 word limit] The lock clicked open and Ethan stepped through the doorway. A gush of cold air signalled his arrival. The door closed with a snap behind him. His features seemed to be showing the passing of his years more so than usual, the bright eyes a little more haggard, and the smile that normally frequented his expression, replaced by a slight frown. This was probably because he was tired (due to a long day of paperwork and catching up with what he’d missed), but also due to the new being that took up so much of his life now; Zul. A rumble of thunder shook the house, announcing the atrocious weather outside. Ethan grumbled slightly, taking off his sodden coat. “Dratted storm.” He fumbled around trying to find a light switch, probing the wall with his cold fingers. When he finally found the switch and flicked it, there was no response from the lights, and the hallway remained dark. It was almost ironic that his power must’ve been cut by the storm, as he owned the power station that provided the electricity. As he moved forwards through the hall, feeling his way along the wall, he almost chuckled to himself – imagining the laughable discussions that he could make of his predicament with business associates. His amusement was cut short by the sight that met him in the next room. As he entered, the moon found a c***k through the turmoil of clouds to cast light through the windows and into the trashed room. Ethan felt his chest tighten as he took in the chaos. Rain was pouring through smashed windows and in the brief milky light of the moon he could see that the sofa was covered in ice, like freezing snail trails, and half the huge television seemed to be melted - the acrid stench of burning plastic still hanging in the air. Other pieces of debris around the room also seemed to have been either melted or frozen beyond repair and as the moonlight receded, it took Ethan a few seconds to realise what could’ve caused the mess. “Zul.” The raevan’s name came out as a hushed whisper. Ethan had left him at home, for the first time since becoming his guardian. The boy had not been perfectly normal, he often prowled around resembling a caged animal and once or twice Ethan had found him in the bathroom, turning the water running from the faucets into rivers of ice or steam. Ethan had had pressing work to do in the business that couldn’t have waited any longer, and had somewhat reluctantly he had left him. He hadn’t thought that the boy would cause so much destruction whilst he was gone... A noise reached the man’s ears and he moved closer. Behind the wrecked sofa was Zul. His skin was oddly bright in the dim room, his horn pulsating with a dull orange glow. He looked up as he heard Ethan tread on a deformed CD case. His bright blue eyes were wild. “Ethan! Be careful!” He snapped. Ethan raised a brow, looking around the room. “I can’t see anything but the mess you’ve made.” His tone was not aggressive but rather clipped, any worry evidently now replaced with slight irritation. The frei gritted his teeth as a flash of lighting knifed through the heavens. “It’s loud and angry. So I’ve been fighting it. I’ll kill it! Make it go!” The roll of thunder that followed the lighting boomed just as he finished explaining. Zul snarled as heat radiated off him, Ethan could almost feel his hair singeing as he staggered away. The noise of the thunder died away and so did the intense heat. The businessman recovered, gasping the cool night air that rushed in through the windows. “Zul! Stop it right now!” He was taken aback by the boy’s savage eyes. The raevan had never experienced a thunderstorm and of course he didn’t understand the noise, but to try and kill the threat wasn’t normal; it was not quite human and too animalistic. His eyes looked traitorously up at the man. “Why should I?! I don’t like it!” “I’m home now and I’m telling you that there is nothing to worry about.” Ethan barked in response. He pointed one finger at Zul, making it clear that arguing back wouldn’t be tolerated. The youth grunted an inaudible reply, before nodding, turning his back on Ethan and drifting away, presumably to sulk in his room. Ethan let out his breath and sunk into a chair that had remained mostly untouched by the frei’s attack against the thunder. A small smile crept across his face. Taming the wildness in Zul would be a challenge, but a challenge he was willing to accept. Equinox of Gods Round 3 [.Situation 03] Link to threadOne of the main attractions of the carnival - the hedge maze, while rumored to be completed in around one hour of wandering, seems to have taken an abrupt change from the innocuous to the strange. Pathways previously traveled don't seem to resemble themselves anymore, more routes seem to appear and disappear, not to mention the abundance of all sorts of boogie traps and surprises! And all the while, Hyde is stuck with his newly acquainted partner Ethan. How will the pair get through this "House of Leaves" turned maze? Equinox of Gods Results CONGRATULATIONS CHRYSTALI!!!!!The following few contestants had done an excellent job in the 3rd round as well, please give them a big round of applause!!! I've been wanting to comment on this one for a few days, but I got lazy and couldn't think of how to write what I wanted... anyway! Before I do any serious nitpicking, there's something you have to keep in mind with the fel essences: size. They need to be able to fit inside a small jar or vial in order for Kyou to use them (which might be an interesting fact to explore. If a larger object is classified as a fel essence, what part of it would be broken or chipped off?)
An arrow might be a bit too large, but what about an arrowhead or something? I don't feel like I can properly critique the Arrow of Hatred concept beyond that since the fel essence being used to make my Raevan (Cloud of Despair) is a bit similar and I always bristle a bit when I see other concepts that involve emotions somehow. XD; But don't let that stop you if you like the idea! I'm assuming here that a weapon or weapon-part is okay because it was made by gods and not people - Freyr and Shira fell in love in the backstory, so it's easy to assume they might have been struck by one of Cupid's arrows!
Troll's Finger... umm. Don't get me wrong, it's an interesting idea, but I'm personally not too keen on body parts as fel essences, and they haven't flwn very well in concept threads in the past. Anything else associated with trolls you can use here? Like, I dunno, an unsolvable riddle that somehow has a physical manifestation? :V
Horn of Empty I think I like, as long as it's small enough horn to fit in a fel essence container! It would be fun to see a Raevan that might actually need food as nourishment because of its fel essence.
I've noticed that all of your fel essences so far involve common myths. XD This isn't a critique so much as it is a random observation, but keep in mind that fel essences don't have to be directly taken from mythology. ovo
I like all of the soul ideas you have so far, so no complaints there. More Raevans with water-influenced designs would be really nice to see. <3

[[ Thanks for the comments Mouse.
I see what you mean about the size of fel essences... They need to be able to fit into the machine that makes the Raevans after all... >.< I'll probably edit my description of the arrow to change it to the arrow head so that it'd actually be able to fit into the vial. Oh and sorry if it feels like I'm trying to get into your territory with the emotions thing... I don't mean to...
The troll's finger was more just an essence that sprung to mind because it reminded me slightly of the failed Phoenix ashes or mermaids tears not doing what they're supposed to.
I'm not sure how big the horn of Empty would actually be... It probably wouldn't fit in a vial but one of the more jar-like containers would probably be large enough.
Thanks for the compliments on the souls! ]]

[ Started to update things. (any spelling that needs to be corrected will be sorted when I return home and have acess to word/spellchecker)
> A new fel essence has been added; Slow Light.
> A whole bunch of new souls has been added, the watery theme has remained but now all the souls can be obtained by Ethan without having to go massively out of character or on an epic hunt for the mythic souls I originally wanted! (Not that there's anything wrong with epic hunts/mythic souls.. I just don't think it'd suit Ethan..) In fact, all of the souls proposed can be located in a large marine aquarmium that Ethan has built into the wall of his office at his buisness headquarters. 8D
> Skeletons for my raevan concepts have been added. ]

I think your Horn of Empty is really your best essence right now. Though the size is a concern, but I've seen cornucopia's made to a smaller scale so who's to say it couldn't be a smaller one that could fit into one of those essence jars. And no matter what soul you choose, by the way I love all the water types, the idea that the Raevan feeds on actual food is very intriguing like Mouse said. Good luck!

All of your fel essences are really interesting. However I'm going to have to say that for some reason Slow Light doesn't really appeal to me much. It seems rather bland somehow... compared to Horn of Empty and True Wishing Bone. It might just be me.
As for the Raeven that feeds off food, what happens if we give him orange juice? Does he turn it into something that looks like water? :]
Sorry. That's all I can think of. :<

Sorry. That's all I can think of. :< [ I'm glad my fel essences are interesting. Slow light was an idea that kinda popped into my head. I Like it, but I don't think it'll ever be the main focous of questing. Just a side idea. If I find that I find myself getting more into it as I develop the raevan that'd be produced, I might refine it and make it less bland. ^^ But thanks for telling me anyway.
It'd turn into a runniner version of the jelly byproduct. P: But I can't imagine him drinking much because he wouldn't get as many nutrients from drinks as he could from food, because the cornucopia didn't give out liquids as far as I know. :3 ]

It would be interesting to see how much you can change Slow Light.
You know... Tama's gonna be giving him drinks just for the hell of it. To see what it looks like. Maybe we can get Ethan to give him an alcoholic drink. See what happens. Would he get liver cancer? Or would he not pick up the alcohol at all?
