So, I've been listening to a lot of Benny Goodman as of late, and it got me to thinking how much I like the sound of a jazz clarinet. Then, that led me to thinking about how cool jazz flute is (especially in Latin stuff!). Sooooo, do you guys like other woodwinds in jazz bands? I really sort of think a lot of people don't get enough exposure to jazz clarinet and flute.
What do you think?

I LOVE jazz flutes and clarinets! biggrin It's kind of an unusual combination, but I also heard a song (I don't know the name, sorry! crying ) with an alto sax/flute duet. It was super cool.

Ben Wendel plays fairly kick-a** Jazz basoon. Chris Potter is an amazing bass clarinet player. There are a lot of people out there who double and double very well. :nods:
Oh, and I'm back! ^.^

I guess oboes wouldn't make the best instrument for jazz... Anyways, I totally agree, especially since I think that the sax often sounds a lot like a brass instrument (after all, the body's made of brass!)

What you say may be true, but Saxes are still and always will be the top woodwinds in jazz.

yeah, saxes will always reign on top. more brassy.
anyway, yes, i looove me some jazz clarinet. our director forbids it, though. that's about the only reason why we don't have any other woodwinds. *shrug*

To the edge of infinity......wait... what idiot ever said saxes were the only woodwind instruments
sure they're the best (that's the sax player in me talking), but they're not the only ones. (i actually play clarintet too. I like sax better lol) ... an invisible reality.

Well if your a sax player inin any kind of decent jazzband you'll be doubling on some sorta woodwind.
Bob Mintzer, Michael Brecker and Chris Potter are pretty mean jazz bass clarinet players.

Flute is awesome in jazz. I love it so. <3
Clarinets are pretty cool when appropriate, too. n.n
