The sun had just began to sink below the horizon, bathing the land in a deep red. A lone figure stumbled across the flat savanna towards the edges of the already-dark jungle. It was a leopard, swathed in all different tones of silver and gray. His paws dragged sullenly along, his fluffy tail scraping the earth behind him. Yet, his metallic eyes were focused with feverish intensity on the lush vegetation of the jungle just in front of him.

Kyroji'zale had spent quite some time away from his fruitful home, and to this day, still didn't know why he had. He'd gotten lost on that wide, flat land with no trees and practically no life at all (or at least, life that he'd seen). His belly grumbled at him, his feet hurt, he was thirsty, and he felt as if he was about to collapse from exhaustion. All in all, he was not a very happy kitty.

As his light-colored paws hit the first bit of soft grass, Kyro breathed a huge and heavy sigh of relief. He was home again, at last. Home where the water was plentiful, where there was always a vacant tree, and where there was always some unfortunate, smaller creature to steal a meal from. Grinning like a fool, Kyro flopped onto his pale silver belly right on top of a lush fern.

A pale, ghostly figure slipped between the trees farther in the jungle, moving through the darkness fluidly. She could feel the sun setting, almost a physical sensation, and it pulled at her. Part of her longed to feel the sunlight on her fur again, unable to remember how it felt, it had been so long since she entered the eternal night of the deep jungle. The other part of her feared it with a passion. The Coven didn't venture where the sun might strike them, for fear that its deadly rays would send them to the embrace of the Blood Goddess before their time.

The female seemed bathed in blood over her ghostly white, like the blood of the many creatures she had slain as she drank their life force. Too long had she gone without that blood after her king's death, but now that there was a new king, she was eager to drink her fill once again.

It was these two driving forces that had the female slipping ever closer to the boundary of safety that the jungle provided, nearing the very edge that she had crossed so very long ago, and never again. And never would for that matter, because as she soon as she neared it, she slowed and stopped altogether. Well after sunset too. Crazy as Shaitani was, she was not so crazy as to risk her very life on the outside world.

A soft humming drifted from her as she looked for a fallen log, springing up onto it for a higher vantage point.

Kyro was in his own little world, stretched out on his back and purring as he dreamed off all the things he'd missed from the jungle. Shade. Water. Trees. Food. He grimaced somewhat at that last thought, reaching a paw out to pet his own belly. It had been a while since he'd eaten anything more than a little field mouse. That meant he'd have to go scouting for a recently-killed prey beast. Not one to overexert himself (or maybe because he was just a little on the lazy side), Kyro rarely hunted for himself. He preferred to find smaller animals to pick on, or younger ones, and simply knick their dinner right from underneath their noses.

Yawning, the silver leopard rolled to his side and slowly pushed himself to a stand. He listened fondly, for a moment, to the squawking of the jungle birds, his eyes fluttering to a close. Oh, how he'd missed this. And what more! He'd missed out on all the lovely ladies passing underneath his tree! That was an even greater regret to the young male than his sorely empty stomach.

Chuckling, he set off at a trot, humming a cheery tune as he padded across the thick jungle floors. But something caught his attention - something just beyond the reaches of his peripheral vision. A flash of red. Ears swiveling forward, he paused, turning his head every which way. He couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, and so shrugged his shoulders, giving it up as a trick of shadow and fading light.

Unlike the leopard, the flash of silver on the edges of her vision didn't go un-noticed by the pale lioness. She fell into a crouch on her log and lowered her head to hang over the edge, her tail flicking behind her.

"Oh my... what was that, my love?" She purred, tilting her head to the side. She leaned forward till it seemed she would fall, had it not been for her sharp claws anchoring her to the rotting wood. "I thought I saw a minnow, swimming through the darkness!" She laughed as she stretched out a paw to swipe at the shadows, as though she could feel it around her limb like water. How odd... it felt like air... But she could have sworn she saw a fish!

Shaitani tilted her head back and forth curiously, trying to figure out just what it was she was seeing. "Helloooo! Fishy thing? Are you theeeeere?" She called.

Okay. Red flashes could be blamed on the fading light very easily. But voices? Kyro stopped once more, swinging his head this way and that. His brow wrinkled, and his eyes narrowed suspiciously. It had been a low voice, barely more than a whisper to his ears. But then it came again, louder. Fishy?, he thought to himself, quirking an eyebrow. That was definitely strange.

Thoroughly unsettled, Kyro squinted his metallic eyes, trying to peer into the shadows around him. There was definitely something out there. Something he just couldn't see. His tail flicking nervously at his legs, he called out softly. "Hello?" There was a faint quaver to his voice. The bit of talking he'd heard had definitely sounded like a female voice, but it had been speaking of fishy things. And so far as Kyro knew, there were no ponds for fish to exist in in this area, and he couldn't smell anything...fishy per se. Except, maybe, this situation.

"Hellooooooo?" Shai ecoed as she leaned farther, her tail flicking back and forth above her, struggling for balance. "Fishy fishy?" She called, reaching farther with her paw.

Then, as often happened with the lioness, fate commanded that she must fall. The wood in her claws gave way and gravity took over, jerking her forward and pulling her towards the ground below the log. A ringing shriek came from her as she fell, thrashing as she struggled to slow the fall, but unable to. Her white and red body thumped into the ground amid the loame of the forrest floor, her shreik silenced ubruptly as the breath was forced from her lungs.

Shaitani lay still for a few moments, staring sightlessly forward as her body stayed limp. Her mind was even still, lacking the normal riot of thoughts and emotions.
