Mtima'safi was in a good mood. Her trip to the Pridelands had, thus far, been very fortunate. She had wasted no time in finding someone who took her right to where she could meet Kia's children and their father. When they were not home when she first arrived, she had gone off and run into Kilango who had wonderful news for her- she had grandcubs. It was a delight to meet Kahakai, and part of her wanted to see the others as well. It was a reminder of how much her babies had grown up, and how now there were more family members she had to be concerned about.. but she couldn't think that way around them. For now, she was content to know that her daughter had a family and was happy.
It was a lovely day and while laying in the sun, Mtima had dozed off. She was not too far from Ezeoha's den, hoping to catch someone as they came or went. However, she had kept her distance so as not to worry anyone.

With a yawn, Sin stretched her forelegs out in front of her briefly, and then she padded out of the den, blinking in the light. The necklace dangling against her chest and thumping lightly against her fur gained her attention for a moment. It was new to her, wearing jewellery like this, her father having only given it to her, as well as the ring that circled her tail, the day before. She appreciated the gesture, though, and she'd always loved this necklace. She just wished the gift had come out of a more pleasant conversation, even if it had been necessary for her to know the truth as much as Ezeoha knew it.
Yawning again, the young female took a few steps out of the den and further into the light, considering whether or not to head to one of her favourite sunbathing spots or find Tete. But, no, she couldn't find him, could she? They had agreed to wait three days, and so far, there had only been one. He might not have asked his father about his mother yet. She had to give him some time to ask his own questions and mull over the answers before they sat down together to talk it out.
Sighing softly, she moved further out into the grass, looking around - and then froze when she caught sight of the goddess lying so close to the mouth of her den.
Uncertain if she was seeing things clearly, she rubbed at her eyes with a paw and then blinked them furiously, but when she opened them again, this lioness with wings was still there. Sineri honestly didn't know what to make of this strange sight. She didn't really... believe in gods or goddesses. For that was what she had to assume this figure was. Even with the irrefutible proof in front of her, it was still extremely difficult to wrap her head around. She felt as though she was still dreaming, but the feel of the grass against the pads of her paws was all too real for that.
Still clearly uncertain, the young female took a hesitant step forward once more, this time toward Mtima. "H-hello...?"

Mtima was sleeping, but she was not in a very deep sleep. She was here for a reason, and did not wish to be caught off guard. At least, not more than necessary. It would be better to be woken from light sleep than from deep sleep, and though she felt certain someone would notice her before she noticed them.. it was better to be safe than sorry!
Her ears flickered back at the sounds of someone calling out to her, and with a tired shiver she stretched out her wings and opened her eyes. The small lioness that greeted her made her smile, though she was not at all what the goddess was expecting to find. She looked to be a great deal like Zeki, the lion who had brought her to this spot. She was the gold of a Pridelander. But more importantly, Mtima'safi saw a very beautiful and very familiar soul.
The goddess lifted her head, offering a friendly smile.
"Hello there," she greeted Sin, looking her up and down before noticing the spots on her ears. As if it were verification for what she suspected, her smile brightened and she got to her feet, "My name is Mtima'safi, and it's a pleasure to finally meet you."

The goddess... was talking to her. She didn't really know why that was weird, but it just was. Standing before her was the stuff of myths and legends... those legends shouldn't be talking to her as though this was a regular meeting to be followed with regular conversation. Especially when she hadn't really believed in them up until this moment! And Mtima even made it sound as though Sin was the one she'd come to talk to. But that couldn't be right. The young lioness even went so far as to look behind her for the other individual Mtima had to be talking to, but of course, only her own den was there. And no one was loitering at the front of it for the goddess could see.
Still confused, Sineri gave Mtima an odd look with a frown. "...Finally...?" she eventually asked, her puzzlement clear in her voice. She honestly couldn't think of a single reason why a goddess would seek her out specifically for a chat, even after that talk with her father last night about a whole aspect of her life she knew nothing about. "It sounds as though you've been looking for me. Wh-" She stopped abruptly, having to catch herself before she made a mistake and said 'what'. "Who are you?"

Mtima's smile did not waver, even as she watched the small lioness before her glance around in confusion. It was rather amusing, but a couple easy assumptions made it very easy to understand. The simplest would be that any stranger seeming as if they knew exactly who you were, like they'd sought you out.. well, that would be very strange. Add that they were a god, and that you maybe had not met many or known too much abotu them.. well, it would be very odd indeed.
"I'm sorry, I'm sure this is very strange," Mtima apologized with a laugh, explaining as carefully as she could so as not to seem that much worse, "You could say that I am a friend of your family, particularly.. your mother." The goddess could hardly claim to be an actual friend of anyone in the family above Kia, having never met too many of them personally.. though she did know Kia's family well enough. After all, she had been a guardian of their pride.

Though Mtima was quite right in thinking that Sin was finding this meeting strange already, the very mention of Sin's mother made her little body freeze and tense instantly. Her red eyes fixed on the goddess intently, and for some moments, she just stared silently. Not only was it startling just to find someone who knew of her mother (especially a goddess!), but it was even more so for the fact that just the day before, she had had an emotional conversation with her father about that same lioness. Had the gods sent one of their own to answer her questions finally...?
Sineri physically snapped herself out of such stupid thoughts and almost snorted at herself. Gods and goddesses didn't do that. Why would they care that one mortal wanted to know why her mother had left? It semed they would have much more important things to think about than such simple problems. But that didn't really line up with the fact that there was a goddess sitting right in front of her, who apparently knew of Kia.
Mtima was definitely right. This was very odd.
Clearing her throat, Sin found her voice to ask, "You know... my mother? My mother? Truly?"

Giving the small lioness a chance to think what she had said over, to really understand and decide what she thought and wanted to say, Mtima stood there silently. She couldn't push this, she would not blame the girl if she did not wish to discuss her mother at all.. truthfully, Mtima was pleased to have simply found one of them. Surely Kia was missing out on something amazing.
"Yes, I knew your mother before and when she was pregnant," she explained, "She considered me an aunt, though I am not truly a relative. I would recognize you anywhere."
And certainly that comment would require an explanation, and it was a simple enough one.. with the minor complication of the difficulty understanding gods that would no doubt come in.

Certainly it did need thinking over. It seemed everything Mtima said threw Sin through yet another loop. But there was something Sin's quick mind had grasped, something that overshadowed her questions about how Mtima knew who she was and recognised her instantly. It was much less important, and could wait until later. After all, it could be something as simple as she baring a strong resemblance to Kia... not that Sin wanted that. She was much happier thinking she only looked like her father.
Clearing her throat, the young lioness took a cautious step forward. "You knew my mother before she had us...? While she was pregnant?" Trying to hide her curiosity and hope for a good, solid answer, Sin continued carefully, "What was she like... when she was pregnant? Did she seem... afraid? About being a mother, I mean."
She hadn't really been able to press Ezeoha for as much detail as she would have liked. Partly because it seemed as though he truly hadn't known much, but mostly because it so obviously seemed to upset him to talk of Kia. She couldn't do it to him when he'd already answered her questions. But here was someone whom she didn't know, and would have no qualms pressuring for whatever information she could get.
Perhaps this meeting with Mtima was some form of divine intervention after all.

Mtima's smile did not waver in the slightest as Sineri found the words she wanted to ask, nodding along to the first two questions. Mtima had run into Kia before she was pregnant, that was when she'd been declared Kia's favorite "aunty". Funny how a search for Kia's real aunt had brought her back here.
"I was the one who informed her she was pregnant, actually," she offered that little bit of information with a deeper smile. The goddess was very fond of pregnant lionesses, it was a very strong concentration of souls- and it was just always something she found particularly delightful. She thought back to the meeting with Kia where she was informed of the pregnancy and immediately she sobered up, losing some of her smile.
"She didn't even imagine she could be pregnant, she was sure she was ill," she described carefully, trying to recall the small details of it, "When I told her, the first coherent thing she managed to say- to ask- how bad responsibility was. I did my best to explain, told her that love gets you through the harder times and she said she believed me.." Here the goddess trailed off a bit. She shook her head.
"Next time I saw her she was far away from here and didn't have any of you around, I'm afraid the idea of responsibility and restriction got to her," she suggested carefully, "I'm afraid her- her family has a history of being very free-spirited wanderers." She almost corrected the 'her' to 'your' but decided Sineri might be happier thinking of it separate from herself. Kia was just like her mother in one way, and that was that she wanted her freedom.

Despite it being what she expected, the news still had an impact on Sineri. Now she had solid proof that her mother really had walked away and travelled far beyond any of their reaches. Perhaps in the back of her mind she had entertained the stupid, vain thought that Kia was nearby, so that she had never really left them and watched over them from a distance, or that she had perhaps passed away, and that was why she couldn't return to see them. But having proof that Kia had walked away from them all and walked far shattered a little tiny something within her.
Sineri stepped a few paces away from the goddess, her head hanging a little bit as she stared morosely at the grass before her paws. She was going through the first emotion that would no doubt plague her at this news: sadness. Next would come anger, of course. Anger at a mother too stupid and immature to stick around and at least see that her cubs were doing well.
"It's all right. You don't have to make it sound pretty." Sineri shook her head, not wanting anything sugar-coated; she may be young, but in all other respects, she was a big girl. She could handle it. "I can see the truth. She turned her back on a loving family because she was too stupid to see that it's better than wandering around on your own for the rest of your life. It's just pathetic. I don't want to know anything else about her. If she won't give me her time, she won't have mine."

Mtima had not consciously made an effort to sugar coat things, not in any way that was meant to imply that Sineri could not handle it. The goddess was very fond of Kia, and she'd had every hope that she would stick it out, that she would stay with her family and realize how happy she could be. It was sad to see before her one of Kia's cubs and not see her so happy a child, but she could hardly blame her. In essence, Sineri had it right with what she said- but Mtima was certain Kia meant no harm, meant nothing bad upon them.
"You have a right to be mad," she said, pointing out the obvious perhaps for no reason, "I am certain, however, that she did not mean any harm. Nothing can excuse it, but you are alive, and I'd hope you are happy with your family. An unfit mother might do more harm than help, she did not give herself a chance."
It was clear that the goddess did not wish to outright bash the dear lioness, and she certainly saw the reason in Sineri's words and understood where her perspective came from.
"You are happy, right?" she said, resuming a smile and trying to make a more pleasant change of subject, "What are your siblings like?"

Sineri turned away from the goddess, sitting down with her back to Mtima and her shoulders hunched. Kia may have had good qualities, she may have had problems, she may have been too immature, but Sin had never really wanted to hear that. If she were to be honest, she'd wanted to hear that there was some magical, special reason why Kia had to go, and knowing the real reason... Well, nothing would make up for that.
"Of course I'm happy," she finally murmured. "I love my dad, and my brothers and sisters. I don't have anything to be unhappy about. But that doesn't mean I'm not angry at her, and that doesn't mean I'll ever forgive her. Not even once has she come to see if we're even all alive... not once. That's worse than being a bad mother. That's just a total disregard of us, and I don't care what you say to try and explain her actions."
She shrugged her shoulders and flicked her tail. "They're... all right, I guess. We all do our own things, but they're cool. Except Shaji, I guess. He's... a bit of a pushover, and dad keeps trying to make him a flirt, and Shaji goes along with it to make him happy even though he doesn't understand.... It's almost... painful to watch."

Mtima watched the small lioness turn away, not even looking back when she began to speak. This was not easy for anyone, especially for someone so young. Sineri did have every reason to be upset, Mtima had only half-expected someone might be around to give Kia a bit of mercy in their opinion of her. Sometimes some did not have it in them to be mad, but then Mtima wondered if she would expect indifference to be any better. Part of her wondered if this was also how Boma's son felt about her, how much he knew and if he hated her. Perhaps being an immortal parent to a mortal child might be more forgivable. Perhaps.
"I'm glad to hear it," she said when Sineri assured her she was happy, and did not comment more on her explanations regarding Kia. The youth was stubborn, and with reason, so there was no point defending Kia now. Mtima had only to further her own conversation with Sineri, and she'd only wished it could have been somewhat more cheerful. That would have been impossible. The idea of a father trying to encourage a son to be a flirt at such a young age was surprising, but then you couldn't always explain your expectations for your children. In the end they usually only wanted what was best for them, and sometimes they would enjoy the idea of having a little version of themselves running around.. like a strange kind of ego boost.
"Ah," she murmured.Sin was surprised that Mtima didn't press the matter of defending Kia, though she had to admit to herself that she appreciated it. Anyone trying to shine Kia in a good light right now, or any time soon, would only put the young female in a foul mood - Kia was an undeniable sore spot on the little lionesses mind, and likely would be that way for some time to come.
Mtima respecting Sin's wishes to leave the subject of Kia alone was probably responsible for the chip on her shoulder shrinking a little bit, which led to the younger female's head turning to look at Mtima again. "So... what now?"
She had no idea what she was supposed to do in the presence of a goddess. Despite them having a fairly normal conversation, it still wasn't a normal situation. Now that discussion of Kia had ended, she was beginning to remember just whom she happened to be talking to.

The goddess was pleased to have Sin turn around to look at her again, especially since she didn't seem so sour now, only.. confused or curious. This was a very odd situation, and Mtima had only hoped to come and check on Kia's children no matter how they felt about Kia. Mtima did care about the pride before it broke up, but more than that she cared about Kia. And it was obvious Kia was not going to check in, Mtima almost acted in her place. She had no real reason to want to check in, only some small bond she felt to them through their lineage- which they, or Sineri at least, wanted nothing to do with.
"I came here to see you and your siblings, to meet you, check in on you," she explained with a small smile, "And I'm very glad I did."She tilted her head, as Mtima thought, confused. She couldn't say she understood why a goddess would be so concerned about meeting her and her siblings (it sounded arrogant even in her head to think that one would want to meet her specifically), as she was sure Mtima had much better and more important things to be doing. It didn't really enter Sin's mind that Mtima could be just like everyone else. It didn't really gel with the common image of deities.
"But... why? I know you knew our mother, but that was only for a little while... Why is knowing we're all right so important to... to someone like you?"

Mtima was not surprised to see the confused look on Sineri's face deepen as she explained. For those unfamiliar with deities, it might be really odd to imagine such personal little visits from them.
"I knew more than just your mother, I knew her mother, and her parents and their parents before them," Mtima explained with a small smile, "Your maternal family was a part of a pride I was once patron to, before they dispersed. It reminds me of the pride, and my own brothers, when I see those connected to it. I did not personally know your distant family, I have a more personal connection with your mother- as I said, she called me her aunt. It's not impossible for a god to have mortal family, and a part of me includes you all in there in some small way."Her eyes widened ever so slightly. She'd had no idea that her mother came from a disbanded pride; she had simply thought Kia just an ordinary rogue. But she refused to let herself be curious about this. There wasn't much more she wanted to know about Kia, other than maybe one day hearing the female herself try to come up with a good reason for abandonment. That was all she ever wanted to do with her mother at this point.
"So... what does that make you to me? My... aunt?" It made some amount of logical sense to her. Her mother's aunt was her aunt, right? Even though she didn't really think of Kia as her mother, that didn't mean she was going to reject someone who actually cared if she and her siblings were actually alive and healthy.
