Finally another cloudless, crisp Winter morn. Although the weather was still cold and snow lay glimmering upon the Earth, it was much more pleasant than the previous Winter weather Maui had been enduring. However, not even the beautiful day could cheer the usually-always-chipper mare up. She was pacing about near where the great river fed into the crystal watered lake.
Stupid jerk, stupid jerk, stupid jerk!
...Stupid jerk, stupid jerk, stupid jerk!!!
She huffed angrily over and over in her mind.
I am SO swearing off clothed stallions! Nothing but trouble! URGH!
STUPID JERK!!!
The mare plopped herself dramatically down on a warm patch of grass by the lake's shore and sighed. What trouble she'd had recently. At least that stallion she'd met in the mountain caverns whilst she was taking refuge for a winter storm was really really nice.
Still the mare with the sunset colored hair felt upset. It wasn't like her at all, but she couldn't help it. She didn't know what to do.

A shadow passed above - a figure momentarily blocking out the sun and casting a shadow on the ground below. A flutter of a wings and a glint of shimmer off the butterfly-like limbs made little sparkle-like designs dance on the ground.
Spellbound landed nearby, having seen the mare's dramatic huff. She looked upset, and the young stallion's curiosity was perked. "Are you okay, Miss?" he asked, approaching slowly with a friendly smile. He tossed his shiny purple mane out of his eyes with a flick of his head.

Maui had had her head down towards her hooves, but her thoughts were broken as a shadow passed by and glimmering sparkles of color danced about the grass before her. She raised her head quickly and her emerald eyes locked onto those of a most peculiar stallion. Maui paused, open mouthed a moment.
She quickly closed it though, for 'gaping' was inappropriate. She'd seen others with wings like hers and even previously met a stallion with a horn, but his wings were like that of a butterfly; that was new to her. Not wanting to seem rude, Maui gave her answer to the seemingly kind gentleman before her. "No. Not really" she sighed. She wasn't a mare to lie or play those silly round-about-games. She was pretty politely straight to the point, to be fair to others.
"A bit fussy about something that I should be over with by now. Boy issues. Nothing I'm sure you'd really want to be bothered with of coarse" she jested, bringing up a smile to lighten the mood. She wasn't ever a moody or gloomy mare, nor dramatic, so she wanted to be sure she wasn't coming off that way.

Spellbound frowned at her honest answer about not be really okay. He didn’t like seeing anyone upset. He remembered when his mother argued with Balrog and how upset that made him feel. His hair fell back down into his eyes as he lowed his head in sympathy. “I don’t know a lot about boy and girl stuff,” he said, tossing his head again, “and I know I’m just a stranger. But sometimes its good to talk. I’m good at listening, if that’s what you need.”

Clever and skilled at reading body language, the mare could tell the subject wasn't quite the stallions forte. Nor did she think he really would like talking about it all that much. It didn't bother her at all, cause she would hate to be a bore.
She shruged it off smiling. "Its okay. Thank you very much for offering to lend an ear. That's very kind of you" she replied calmly, "In short, the situation was just two clothed stallions...each I had a previous crush on, kinda...betrayed me? I don't know if that's the right term---hm, more-so led me on...or at least I thought they led me on..." Maui felt as if she was babbling nonsense.
"Er, I liked them and things came in the way. I'm a little worried that'll always be my luck, so to speak" she finished, having tried her darnest to make sense of herself to the stallion. Smiling serenely again she made her move to change the subject. "Where are my manners? Allow me to introduce myself!" she began quickly, getting to her hooves and nodding her head in the polite incline that she always did when meeting someone new.
"I'm Maui. Might I know your name?" she asked sweetly.

Spellbound rolled his shoulders at first as she dismissed his offer to listen, his curiosity dissapointed, but he didn't expect much better, he was just a stranger after all. But she opened up a little bit as the exchange went on and that made him smile. He nodded understandably and shook his head in sympathy. Before he really had a chance to respond, she asked for his name.
Introductions always made him smile. "My name is Spellbound," he said proudly, bowing his head, which spilled his hair all in his eyes again. He shook it out with a snort and smiled back at the mare "Nice to meet you, Maui."
"I've never met any clothed Soquili before," he offered. "But maybe they are all prone to be... not so nice. You shouldn't worry about it always the case. Not all stallions hurt ladies. Especially such lovely ones." Despite the words, the look on Spellbound's face was earnest, an innocent sincerity as opposed to a droll pick up line.

The mare had had enough of false flattery to be able to tell an honest compliment from such. Spellbound was being honest indeed and Maui's cheeks now matched her wings. Through blushing, she smiled back, "Me? Maybe a little bit, but beauty isn't everything...so I never put much importance on even thinking I'm pretty." She moved a bit over her own ever-wavy sunset hair out of her face with a wing. To get her mind off being as pink as her colorations she continued on the second half of what the stallion had said.
"Maybe they are. But who am I to categorize? I was told only the demon soquilis, such as Kalonas and Skinwalkers are almost all prone to be cruel. I know all types can be so, but in retrospect, you're right, I shouldn't worry about it" Maui continued. She looked Spellbound in his indigo eyes and nodded confidently. "Thanks, thats really the kick to the hindquarters I needed to get over it" she laughed.
"Anyhow, pleasure to meet you Spellbound. Magnificenly majestic sounding name you've got there" she added. Her flattery too was always sincere, as her adoptive father Oathkeeper had tought. 'Never give false compliments. Mean them. Give only honest flatteries' her mind echoed his words.

“I think I’m pretty,” he said honestly, “but that’s just because my parents are pretty. I don’t see why you should or shouldn’t get too hung up on it.” Spellbound was still young and not yet comfortable in casual conversation and didn’t know it would be considered by most rude to compliment yourself so. In his mind, it was just another fact, like his fur was black and his mane was pink and purple.
He tilted his head, listening to her go on about the other Soquili kind. “I know very little about them,” he said, “except my mom says there’s a been a Kalona sniffing around the burial ground near our territory and to stay away from it. But I think even a pretty Soquili can be mean if they wanted to. You know?”
He shrugged his shoulders and gave Maui an encouraging smile. “Thank you, its nice to meet you, too. My father named me, and I quite like it myself. What does Maui mean?”

At Soulbound's complimenting himself, Maui laughed. "You are" she added politely. Although, she wasn't too sure if 'pretty' was the right term to use. She would have thought calling a stallion 'pretty' would be like calling a mare 'handsome.' Well, he used the term to discribe himself, not her.
Trying to shake off the want to giggle again, she smiled as he continued. However, when he came to the comment about her name, she looked puzzled. "Er---" she blinked, "Never thought of that. I don't know what it meants. I never knew my dad, cause my mom...she's not the 'settle down' with one soquili type. Mom gave me the name though. Her name's Paris" she added.

"Paris is a pretty name, too" he said with a nod. He found it a little odd that she didn't know about her father. "My mother's not really the 'settle' type either, I think," he said, figuring that would be somewhat encouraging...she looked like Spellbound had put her in an awkward situation. "But my Dad hangs around and stuff. They're friends and all, but I see him with other mares sometimes and it doesn't seem to bother my mom."

The stallions story sounded the same as hers and that was both oddly comforting and sad at the same time. It wasn't too tough for her, but she felt bad for him. However, he didn't seem to feel bad for himself, so she tried not to offend or annoy by needless pitying. The mare pawed the ground for a moment, trying to think up a cheerier subject. Suddenly though though of a flight caught her mind. She wasn't quite flying material yet since no one had been able to (or around long enough) to fully teach her. She figured that asking wouldn't hurt. Smiling broadly she raised her head and cleared her throat. "You fly very gracefully. I can't do as well as that but I've been trying really hard to get all the complicated aspects of flying" she began, "Would you mind showing me a few tricks and tips?" she asked politely.
