Purple and brown fur shuddered in the fading light of evening, quills drooping limply along the female Kylandrei's slender neck. Her head was bowed, usually vibrant green eyes dull and half-closed, ears flopped down and horn lowered. Aaliyah whimpered, her muzzle wet with shed tears, and shuddered again. Her right hind leg was trapped in the sharp teeth of a metal trap that she hadn't seen while walking towards the river for a drink, and now she was trapped...the young female gave a soft cry as a jolt of pain went through her weary body, then slowly lowered herself to the ground, her head resting on her front paws.

She had been struggling all day, calling for help, but none could hear her...she had just grown enough to leave her parent's territory, and now she wished she hadn't. Her throat was parched and her body tired. Her back leg was caked with dried blood, the trap refusing to budge even a little, and damaging her leg even more when she had had a panic attack earlier. Why couldn't someone come save her? Was she...was she just going to die here, all alone? The usually cheerful Kylan gave a frightened whimpering croon at that thought.

Perched on a large rock in the middle of his great grandmother's territory sat Kiryl, staring upward. A blank stare was locked intently between the canopy of branches and falling leaves. All in all, the dulled male was content to sit and watch the dying of the world. The same as every year. An endless cycle that meant absolutely nothing to him, as did most things. He'd been slouched atop the rock since sunrise. But a weary body and sore muscles did little to move him from his chosen spot. Only true nightfall would find him settling in a place for rest. Blue eyes shut and opened, fading back into focus.

The sun had nearly fallen now. Without much thought, he slowly slunk from the rock, not even bothering to stretch his tired form. Paws took him down a familiar path, all the work of habit. It wouldn't be long before he found the den his great grandmother and grandmother had created for him. It was about the only thing he bothered to care for at all and just enough to keep the thing from collapsing. Lowering his gaze to the forest floor, he examined the leaves and twigs and... metal? A sound made his ears slide forward. Quickly raising his head, he realized that he'd nearly run into another. The male's mind snapped the puzzle's pieces together has he looked back to the metal chain and followed it all the way to the trap, which cut painfully into her leg. Eyes widened slightly, one of the largest shows of surprise he'd ever put on. Wait, what was he supposed to do now?

Aaliyah's eyes had just drifted shut and her breathing was shallow. Perhaps she should try to rest? Maybe sunrise would bring someone to her aide. She flicked and ear at the sound of footsteps, but told her weary mind it was just her imagination. She shifted to become more comfortable, but yelped at the movement, head lifting and swinging around to look at her trapped foot, growling at it slightly in frustration. Then her green eyes blinked and slowly turned towards the surprised Kylan that she had glimsed, "Oh..." Her voice was soft and cracked, "Oh thank the stars...please, please help me, I'm...oh it hurts. Help me get free, please." She begged, ears slightly forward in her relief to have someone stumble apon her. Maybe she wouldn't die after all...tears stung her eyes as the hope and relief swelled in her chest.

For a moment longer he stood, paralyzed by his own confusion and disposition. Never before in his life had he seen a trap like this. Or, honestly, a trap at all. This situation didn't call for the cordiality and manners his father had taught him. He'd been trained to slink through a conversation without much trouble until was excused. But this was different. How awkward would it be for him to introduce himself and ask her name in return at a time like this? Finally a voice rose in his throat, the same strained, almost gasping voice he'd had his entire life. "Hold... on..." Stepping forward, he eyed the trap. What to do, what to do? Putting his nose right up to his, he sniffed, eventually placing a heavy forepaw on each side of the metal mouth. Huffing with the attempt, he pushed at the trap. Was it even moving? "Is there... a way to... release it...?" He asked, seeing nothing in his futile pushing.

The young female winced as he shifted the trap, holding in the whimper. "I-I don't know..." Her voice showed the pain she was in as she gave another shudder, "Ahg...oh..it-it's moving..." She cried, holding very still as the teeth began pulling out of her leg, 'K-keep...going." She said, fur on end.

The force needed to move the trap was great. Kiryl could feel his limbs shaking unwillingly. A frustration began to rise within him. An unusual feeling, one which the normally empty male had felt very few times in his life. Letting out a tiny growl, he pushed harder. However, every Kylan has limits and he was reaching his fast. Without warning, one of his paws lost its grip on the metal. it would've surely slammed back down on her leg under normal circumstances. But luck or some other force guided his free-falling paw heavily down onto an extended lever he hadn't seen before. The trap flung open, startling him and sending him sprawling backwards onto his bum. Dark fur bristled as his entire form shook.

Aaliyah cried out in shock and tumbled forward, breathing hard as she quickly got up and limped away from the evil trap, slumping down a few feet away onto her side. Her form was trembling and she looked down at her torn paw, whimpering and lifting it up to lightly lick it. It was still attached, and wasn't bleeding very badly, and moving it didn't hurt extremely badly so perhaps it wasn't broken?

She lifted her emerald gaze to the dark Kylan, swallowing thickly and giving the softest of smiles of gratitude. "Thank you...I-I was so afraid that I was going to die here." Her head drooped wearily, "My name is Aaliyah, daughter of Adelaide and Saber...and whom, may I ask, is my savior?"

Calm started to wash over him once more. Slow but surely the shaking stopped. A protective tail curled around his paws, shielding him once more for the outside world he tried not to let in. At her voice, his gaze shifted from the trap to her. The manners his father had taught him automatically slipped into place. Though he would've chosen to go back to his den without another word, she'd already introduced herself. Politeness dictated that once he or his company was introduce, he couldn't leave until he was excused. "I am.... Kiryl..." he answered. "But... I wouldn't.... call... myself... a savior..." Savor. What a strange title.

She smiled weakly, "Well you saved me, which makes you my savior." She slowly rose to three paws, the fourth she held up off of the ground. "Oh, I shouldn't have left home..." She muttered. Aaliyah had been searching for somewhere she could make her new home, to claim her own territory, but hadn't gotten very far... "Um...Kiryl, would...would you mind helping me to the river? I desperately need water." She said shyly, glancing at him after limping around to face him. Her quills lifted slightly. She didn't want to be alone...at least, not right now...

"If you... say... so," he muttered, looking away for a moment. He still couldn't understand how a simple walk to his home had become such an experience. It'd been nothing more than dumb-luck and weakness that'd saved her, he decided. Still, manners kept his words merely agreeing. Barely catching her forlorn speech reminded him that he was still in conversation and needed to look at her as she spoke. Returning his gaze to her, he nodded at her request, even if it was extremely belated. Rising to a stand, he moved closer to her, awkwardly offering his own form as support if she needed it.

Aaliyah felt a bit uncomfortable, perhaps she was asking too much of this stranger? He didn't seem like he wanted the company, however she did. She wasn't used to being alone, and didn't like it much. She smiled gratefully, "That you so much, Kiryl." She sighed in relief, turning around carefully. She began walking slowly, tipping over once against the other Kylan until she got the hang of limping along on three legs, the fourth burning terribly. She didn't say much as she limped along, her ears perking up at the sound of running water. She picked up the pace a bit until she saw the sun glistening off of the creek and her muzzle broke into an elated smile. She hobbled down to the water and dipped her muzzle into it, drinking deeply and gratefully, her tail swaying slightly behind her as the light danced along her fur, illuminating the purple stained with soft browns.

After a long moment, Aaliyah raised her head with a sigh, "Ohh, so wonderful." She stepped into the water and carefully turned, lowering her hurt leg daintily into the cool waters to help with the burn. "I owe you so much for all your help, Kiryl."

"You... are... welcome..." he wheezed, keeping his gaze now focused on the path before them. It wasn't difficult to keep pace with the injured female. Kiryl didn't move very fast on normal occasions. Most would assume he was somehow terminally ill upon first meeting, simply because of the way he talked. Yet, if there was one thing that didn't bother him, it was differences. Everyone was different, that was one thing he'd learned from his father. Aside from manners, of course.

Feeling her weight against him as she gained her balance made him stiffen. Physical contact was something he was still not used to from anyone but family. When she walked on her own, he let out a held breath, tail flicking out behind him. "Don't go... too fast..." he muttered as she picked up her pace. Being excited from a drink was one thing, but she could end up hurting herself more and making the situation more awkward for him. Reaching the water a bit after her, he laid down at the edge, watching with cautious eyes as she lowered her leg. "You... owe me... nothing... Don't... worry about... it..."

Aaliyah sighed, the water felt so nice on her injured leg. "Well...thank you again." She said, pausing for a moment before asking, "Kiryl, I don't want to seem rude, but are you ill?" She tilted her ears back and lowered her head almost bashfully. He didn't seem sick to her, and smelled normal, but now that she could focus more, she realized that he seemed to be almost out of breath when he spoke. Aaliyah hoped he wasn't ill, because she could have endangered his health by asking him to come with her, when she could have come to the stream herself. "I'm sorry I asked you to come, I don't want you getting more sick because of me." She wondered if she could do something to help him, she was always taught that one good deed deserves another.

Blue eyes watched her for a moment, then the water, then her again. Slowly, he shook his head. "No..." It was better that she asked. After all, other Kylan in his past had merely stared. And if there was one thing he hated under any condition, it was blunt staring (despite the fact that he sometimes did just that on accident). "I have... always... been this... way..." Sometime it actually hurt his lungs, having to suck in so much air, but not usually. Heck, maybe there was something wrong with him and he just didn't know it. "And even if... I was... I would... still... have helped..." As was dictated by cordiality.

Aaliyah seemed relieved at hearing this, then smiled shyly when he said he would have helped anyway. "You're a good Kylan, Kiryl." She said, slowly limping her way up onto the bank, water dripping from her legs and underbelly. She sighed and plopped down onto her side, only feet from him, careful not to jar her paw. "I...really wish there was something I could do to return the favor. I'll feel bad if you helped me and I didn't do something to repay you. Even something small." She curled her tail, the tip dripping wet, around her rump and rested a bit, weary from her struggle against the strange metal teeth.
