The haibane (Ha-E-baa-nee)
Upon emerging from the cocoons in which they first appear in the world, Haibane appear to be normal human beings. Shortly afterwards, Haibane painfully grow feathered wings from their backs, and are given halos specially-forged for them by the Haibane Renmei, which may take a few days to float properly over their heads. They always have a sense that they used to live in another place and were someone else, but they cannot remember where or who they were. Haibane are generally young children or teenagers when they come into the world.
Healthy Haibane wings are charcoal grey rather than white, and are too small to be functional.Haibane cocoons grow from small seeds like dandelion tufts that fall from the sky and land in places such as Old Home, usually depicted in the spring and always in indoor, uninhabited rooms. Once landed, these seeds dig into the floor and grow quickly to a very large size, bigger than a person, but somewhat dependent on the size of the person inside. Roots grow out of the cocoon into the surrounding surfaces to support it.
Inside, each new Haibane experiences a vivid dream, and then wakes up suspended within the cocoon. They are dressed in a plain white robe, surrounded by some sort of breathable liquid, and able to hear sound from outside. The walls are easily pulled apart, and each Haibane must dig his or her own way out. According to Reki, tradition holds that if hatchlings cannot break free themselves, they will not grow strong—much like chicks or butterflies.
Once awake in their new world known as the little town of Glie (they may sleep for some time after hatching), each Haibane is given a new name according to the dream they had while in the cocoon. They are all sure that they had a name and life prior to this one, but none are ever able to remember any details, and it is thought that even if they met their families, they would not recognize one another. Certain traces of emotion remain, however, and they remember practical things like how to talk or ride a bicycle. Some Haibane, born as young children, choose their own names based on dreams for the future, presumably ignoring the ones given to them at hatching.
After a Haibane has received a name, he or she is given a halo which floats over his or her head, "to be a guide for the future."The connection may be tenuous at first, but once the halo "sticks", it is almost like a part of the Haibane's body and can be used to drag him or her about or to support the weight of other objects. These halos glow brightly, and in the dōjinshi they spin rapidly as well. they are forged from metallic flakes, called "light leaves"which can be found in tunnels located within the wall that surrounds the city.
Wings are formed within the Haibane's body, first appearing as uncomfortable lumps on the back. Within a day or two of the hatching, these grow rapidly and put the Haibane into a state of fever, finally bursting through the skin in a painful and bloody manner. The pain and fever last for about a day before rapidly and completely subsiding. Meanwhile, the feathers of the wings must be cleaned, or else the blood and other fluids will stain them. Thorough cleaning can be a long procedure, and must be done by someone else, as the newly born Haibane is too weak and in too much pain. Once Haibane recover their health after this ordeal, they start to be able to move the wings, although it takes some time to gain complete control over them. After a week or more of involuntary twitching and quick exhaustion, each Haibane finally learns to control the wings like any other part of their body.
The Haibane in general are bound by certain rules set forth by the Haibane Renmei. They are only allowed possessions they make themselves, or which the townsfolk have cast aside, and thus must wear used clothing and live in abandoned buildings. Theyare not allowed to handle money. Instead, they are each given a notebook by the Haibane Renmei, the pages of which they use as scrip to pay for food and used goods. They are also not allowed to linger near or touch the city walls.
Haibane's lives are eventually drawn toward their "Day of Flight". This day approaches when the Haibane in question has overcome certain internal trials and is ready to move on. Their halo begins to flicker and dim, and finally they depart, alone and unannounced, for the Western Woods, where they pass over the city walls in a beam of light. Their halo is left behind on the ground and no longer glows. The other characters experience this much as they would an ordinary death—no one knows when it will happen, or what lies beyond the wall, and those left behind feel the loss of separation. Nevertheless, Leaving the Nest has a positive connotation, and most of the Haibane believe that life beyond the walls is somehow higher or better than life in Glie.
There are also hibane living in an abandoned factory. (Haibane cannot fly)

Sin-bound Hibane
Some Haibane do not remember their cocoon dream. These Hibane are called sin-bound. These Haibane can be recognized by the black stains that appear on their wings. Signs of being sin-bound do not always appear from birth.
Sin-bound Haibane cannot achieve their "Day of Flight" until they are no longer sin-bound. If they remain sin-bound, after a certain amount of time they cease to be Haibane. These Hibane lose their wings and halos, and are required to live apart from humans and Haibane.they are called"fallen Haibane".

The toga are the only traders allowed to visit Glie. Their buisness is to trade merchandie from outside of town with products that are made within Glie.
It is amazing to watch them visit towns with their goods on thier carts that they use for trade. According to rumors they try to find new products in Glie to exchange for their merchandise during the days they are staying inside Glie.
The toga are not allowed to speak in the town of Glie. they use a speical langauge that only the communicator knows.tehy wear large cloaks and always have theyer hoods up so ou can't see they're faces.

The Town Of Glie
Glie is well known as the town where the haibane live. The town has a loose oval shape and is surrounded by walls.this town has a very old history but there are no documented records about the town. there are ruins laid throughout the wetstern woods.the town controls what people and products can come inside Glie at the great gate.this is the only entrance into the town. because of the gsate the town isn't influenced by any one particular outside culture to much. instead it is mixed with many diffrent cultures.on the other hand glie has it's own cultural holidays like the festival of passover. the streets of the town look like a small european city. glie is a beutiful town with lots of nature.traveling throughout the town is mainly with two wheeled vicles like a bike or a scooter or by walking.there are no traffic lights orbflashy neon sighns on the streets so it helps keep the scenery peacful. this town is very safe. although there is some crimanal mischeif. you won't even see police except around the gate.
(P.S no one is allowed to go outside the gate)

Characters
Username: Pitiful love Name: Tanshin Age:15 Dream:He's standing alone in the dark. the only sound is my breathing and i'm cold. Personality: a bit of a loner but can be extremly hyper.when he's in a really good mood he's the most talkitive person in oldhome. Home:Old home Appearance: (with wings and a halo) ------------------------------- Username: Rikku-Liia Name: Rein Age: Near 16 Dream: Of what she remembers, she was falling through black air and gray clouds. Lightning gleams around her. Then she suddenly falls into dark water. She can breath in it, and as she falls, everything flips upside down-or right-side up, and she is on her feet in pitch blackness. Suddenly lights explodes from every corner of her vision, seeping into the darkness until it turns a milky gray as the two contrasting colors blend in harmony. She takes a step, and is forced to stop when something falls from the sky. She looks down at her arm where the thing that fell from the sky touched her and blood-her blood-is trailing down her arm. More things fall, until silver rain is surrounding her and the gray background. If the silver rain touches her, she bleeds. A feeling of loss wells over her, and she looks up to see a cloud in an incredibly odd shape above her, releasing the odd, silver droplets. Personality: Appearing silent and modest, the true self of this Haibane is unimaginably dark and disturbed. Unable to remember her dream when she is 'born' at age 12, she takes to writing her dream over and over again, added different endings to what she thinks the endings could be to her dream every time she writes the dream down on paper. She helps everyone, is kind hearted and is tactful when around company. However it is taboo among the rest of the Haibane that grew up with her not to enter her room. Her true self is untrusting, and drowning in disturbing darkness. Home:Old Home Appearance:

I couldn't wait.....If you want me to delete it I will....weeee, it's open))
It had been so cold last night....The sobs were still carved into her brain as if by the sharp edge of a steel knife. Rein had collapsed in the middle of her small living room from exhaustion yet again. She did so nearly every night. Her room consisted of three sub-rooms. Her living room, her bedroom, and a room that she hid behind a painting she had found in here a long time ago, that had had the name 'Reki' on the back of it, whom was probably the last Haibane who had lived there before she. She had been here almost four years now, in Old Home. Her wings twitched on her back, her halo shining brilliantly in the gloom of disturbia surrounding her room. Infecting everything was the stir of hidden meanings. Her eyes had bags underneath them from lack of sleep, and she held a pencil that had been snapped clear in half in an outstretched hand that was against the cold stone floor. A single black spot thrived on the edge of her right charcoal wing, and she had a horrid expression on her sleeping face, as if being tormented by terrifying images and voices only she could see. Nightmares.

She found herself turning over, the pencil falling with a clinking sound from her outstretched hand as she did so. Curling her fingers, her face was growing more pale by the minute, and though her face was serious, tears split the edges of her closed eye lids, and as they built, they slowly slid down the bridge of her nose, and down her cheek, slipping to the cold floor one by one. Curling her fingers even more, her face relaxed a bit, and she turned so her face was towards the ceiling of the dusty room. Lifting an arm and stretching it out towards the sky she extended her fist, and slowly uncurled her fingers, as if trying to reach for the Heavens. A chill surrounded her, and she stopped, slowly opening her eyes. They were black. So black that it was impossible to see her pupils, and to see the misery that was swirling in a dangerous whirl pool inside of them. She stared up into the space of her room as if collecting information and reviewing it, and then turned her hand so her palm faced her, and pulled it back to nearly a foot from her face...."The silver rain was clearer this time." She whispered to herself while looking at her empty palm with gloom. After a while she found herself on her feet getting changed and washing her face. In front of her mirror, she noticed the black smudge on her right wing, and the glistening water that had been cupped in her hands slopped down her front instead of onto her face as her hands started to quiver. She suddenly reached across her counter, quickly pulling out a pair of steel scissors with a terrified, half crazed look on her face and she put the scissors to her wing in a flash before she realized what she was doing. Staring at the scissors, her eyes shook. Dropping them, she put her hands to her face in what must have been shock as the scissors crashed to the floor......................
The stream of water in the sink was continuous and surprisingly relaxing. Sitting in a rickety seat in front of it, Rein was brushing purple liquid into her wings, that were being stained by the color as she worked. She must have been applying the stuff for a while, because the liquid was already soaking her wings. After a while she finally set her brush down, and leaned back in the chair in a boyish manner so it creaked louder than usual. Looking to the picture of what seemed to be a Haibane with long raven hair and the same black, drowning eyes as Rein seemed to have, she sighed. "I wonder what you were like....." She asked the painting. It had the signature of Reki on it like the one she was using to hid her private room with, and looked like a self-portrait. Her white tank top stuck to her from the water and purple liquid, and she stood up to get a closer look at the Reki she had been admiring the four long years since she'd been here. She had found Reki's diary by accident and read through it numerous times in wonder. Reki had been sin-bound just like her. But Reki was no longer in Old Home, and Rein always felt at a loss in the place.
