Has anyone heard of this guy? I have and I strongly recommend his works to anyone who likes reading books of the fantasy genre. His style is captivating, humorous and I hold him in very high respects along with Robert Jordan, Agatha Christie, Anne Ursu and my other favorite writers.
The sad thing is, I'm the only one in my grade who's even heard of him. Does anyone else out there love David Eddings work as much as I do? sad

I DO!!! Man, I love every character in The Belgariad and The Mallorean. I hated some, but in the end, I love them all! I understand how you feel, because no one I know really knows of him either. Those series are my favorite books to read! Glad to see another fan in here. Welcome!

I've never read The Belgariad, but I love the set "The Dreamers" that he did with his brother Leigh Eddings. The Elenium trilogy is fantasic too.

Leigh is David's wife. But, I just got "The Dreamers" series, and I look forward to reading them.

The Belgariad is great....I like the outrigger novels with it though....Belgarath the Sorcerror, and Polgara's book. I have yet to read the Rivan Codex book...but I should.

I am in Love with the Eddings books. Also, sadly enough, many people in our generation have not heard of the wonderful authors in young and adult fantasy and science fiction. For example, many of the people I am in college with that are my age have never even heard of Madilene (I think I spelled that right) L'Engle. I was shocked. She was one of the writers that got me started in science fiction and fantasy. We need spread the word about such authors and recommed them to many of our friends. When they read the works of such authors from that time, they'll realize that 99% of new series that are out there are just pale imitations of the originals.

I have been recommended to reading him... But truth be told it'll be a while before I get around to it. I have a fair bit of work to do.

I'm sorry to say that while the Belgariad did keep me interested up until halfway through the 5th book, I really don't think I will ever read another David Eddings book. Most of the characters existed only to meet the criteria of having one person per country, the countries were so cliche it was terrible, and when the entire depth of a character can be summarized in a few words ("you're a bad man, Silk") it is painful to see how cardboard they are.

I don't really like the "let me show you around all these cool worlds I made up" types of books. It was a bit too formulaic- visit country A for first half, visit country B for second half, second book covers countries C and D, etc.

Sorry to rant on like this, but there are a ton of better authors out there- Francis Hardinge, Garth Nix, Cornelia Funke, Jonathan Stroud, Christopher Paolini (just kidding, don't hate me!), etc.

I'm so guilty. I saw my dad reading the books, bugged him till I could read them, fell in love and then got my sister addicted to his writing to. So totally guilty.

I've read The Elenium and The Tamuli series which I really enjoyed! They contain Kalten - one of my favourite fictional characters I wish I'd seen more of.
